So according to the ign interview there's going to be only a few references to the original trilogy. I think its likely however that Shepard will be mentioned on at least a couple of occasions, he/she was a pretty big deal. So if they are referenced would you want Shepard to be referenced as Male, Female or their gender to not be mentioned at all?

Personally I'd prefer it for no mention to made towards their gender because then it allows the player to project to imagine it was their Shepard in the story, regardless of gender. If their gender is mentioned I think I'd prefer to Shepard to referenced as Male just because Shepard was male in most promotional work and most players played as a male Shepard. That said, I wouldn't be too bothered if it was the other way round.

Sorry if this topic has already been made.

Shep should just be referred to by their proper title, Space Jesus.

I think Shepard should be referenced as an attack helicopter.

They'll leave it ambiguous. Like : "I heard of Commander Shepard growing up.... what a soldier." Or "Tales of the Shepard lasted hundred of years." But I doubt anyone in Andromeda was on a first name basis with Shepard.

Bioware will upset a lot of fans if they don't leave it open-ended. So that's what I forsee happening.

KotOR2 handled Revan's gender in a clever way. Revan is discussed early in the game, and the player character has a chance to correct the "silly mistakes" of the speaker, if his assumptions are incorrect.

I'd rather not see this used, but it came to mind.

I'm thinking exactly this.

If that was played out right, I could see it being pretty humorous.

I would be pissed off if they ever impose me any sheppard, because I played as male and female and even if I prefer broshep,

I don't want anyone tell me that only some of my playthrought fit in the "canon" choices, sheppard better not have ANY canon gender because there are fan of maleshep and femshep and they deserves equal respect,

You better not do a canon sheppard bioware, I am one of your biggest defender, but if there is that would be ABSOLUTE BULLCRAP.

I'm guessing they'll give you the option to pick your shepard's gender and possibly background before the game starts up. Either that, or maybe they leave it ambiguous. They wouldn't ever pick a gender for everyone's Shepard, as either way they'd have lots of pissed off fans.

That is also what I think, doing one or the other one with ****** off so many fans that it would be worth the little money invested into making a different sheppard if he or she appears at the beginning of MEA.

Or he just don't appear and people on the ark don't know exactly know which gender that person was, or no mention at all.

I am fine with all of those option

The whole reason we're even doing this Andromeda thing is so BioWare can get around having  to canonise any one specific set of choices from the original trilogy. So, it could go one of two ways:

if they give us some kind of stripped down Dragon Age Keep system, so we can provide some basic details about our playthroughs to inform whichever small references they want to make, then they'll probably refer to your Shepard by whichever gender you pick. If they don't, then the references will be even more vague, and completely gender neutral.

If I see a single reference to "The Shepard" I will start a fire. Let her rest in pieces.

I would love a Keep system for Mass Effect (Like a Genesis 3). I have a feeling they won't be doing that (considering they're deliberately separating themselves from the trilogy and the endings have no effect), but I'd be really thrilled if they did.

Well, it's seems that your heresy will cause you nothing but suffering. Because that's exactly how it will be. Behold and submit yourself.

Clearly the best way to do that is not mention the gender if they even mention Shepard at all.

I'm interested to know whether the colonists actually know about the Reapers. If they leave before they arrived, Shepard may actually be considered to be some nutcase who blew up a Batarian colony to protect everyone from the boogeyman.

They could just mention his name without any pronoun.

From ME Wiki:

"Shepard was born on April 11, 2154, is a graduate of the Systems Alliance N7 special forces program (service no. 5923-AC-2826), a veteran of the Syllian Blitz, and is initially assigned to the SSV Normandy in 2183 as Executive Officer. Shepard later becomes the first human to join the Specters, an elite special task force for the Citatel Council."

And adding: And the hero who saved the (Milky Way) galaxy from Sovereign and the Collectors.

Would also rather they not mention any pronoun.  I have both male and female, but I like the wiki option.

Just make Shep non binary. Don't have to pick a specific gender and this option is right up BioWare's street anyway. They can have an NPC passive aggressively lecture the player for getting Shep's personal pronouns wrong (Xi, Xir and Xer for those wondering).

The easiest thing is to leave it ambiguous, which is what I bet they will do. I don't really expect to hear much about Shep at all... maybe a line or two placed at certain points in the game.

No. Not gonna happen.

Yeah w/out a save it won't happen and they won't release a Genesis for what amounts to easter eggs. I would be for it, but no, won't happen unless they pull a KOTOR2.
