It's time to crack the nuckles and buckle down on responses because I'm home now and I need to teach my keyboard who's boss! Warning, I don't know what TLDR is!
Easy! It's my personal opinion, I've loved Bioware storytelling ever since I got the first Baldur's Gate and then Kotor just sealed the deal. Many huge and awesome games later and they're one of my favorite storytellers. I pretty much know that if the Bioware tag is on the game, it's going to be good. Have they had issues? Yea, the company has changed a good bit over the years but I always enjoy the overall story and all the GREAT moment to moment stuff. I'm a huge fan of the Mass Effect series and I loved 3 even the endings changed and unchanged. I recognize the issues some people had with em but, I can move past things like that if the majority of the game is amazing...and it was.
I'm really looking forward to meeting our companions. I hope that asari in the trailer makes it into the game. She's the first asari I've been interested in meeting. Her facial animations just make her look like a fun character.
I always love customosing my protagonists; hope character creation is robust! I'll be naming her after Amelia Earhart to honor flight and feminism.
As far as the setting goes, I'm interested to learn about Andromeda and meet its citizens. I'm also curious about how the fleet is organized. How many ships? Politics? Species?
I'm excited to meet all of our companions, they're what really help make the Mass Effect games feel so personal is seeing them interact and learning about their backstories. You get so attached to them, and I hope they have a decent amount of customization building on more than just clothing DLC packs.
I will be naming my character after Ada Lovelace, considered the first computer programmer. I felt it fit well with the fact that Sally Ride was the first US woman in space.
He's assuming BioWare is still the 10/10 storyteller they used to be back in the 1990s and early 2000s. Truth is, they've lost a lot of points since. Even Bethesda tells better stories than BioWare these days.
Everyone has their own opinion about it, and while I enjoy Bethesda as well, they tell stories in very different ways and that's a GOOD thing. I still believe Bioware tells great stories, not everything is going to be super awesome all the time, but I've never felt let down. Well...SWTOR was a mixed bag for me but their new direction is better...just wish it had been more like that at the start. I guess that just shows how much I prefer their more single player storytelling than trying to make it an MMO, but it was rather ambitious and I feel it still made a good mark on the genre with how it really pushed immersion with VO/etc.
Yeah, I wish people would respect the OPs stated intentions for this thread and take the negativity elsewhere. It's not like we don't have thousands of complaint threads where negativity has its place.
It would mostly just be better if people focused on the main intent of the thread and if others can't, just either ignore them or debate politely. They have their opinion which is just as valid, or should be respected as such, so that things like this don't devolve into name calling or foster more hostility. Basically, SPAM THAT PARAGON BUTTON..... unless they're that reporter
On the flip side, Obsidian has always left BioWare in the dust where writing is concerned, even back when BioWare used to be really good at storytelling.
Echo chambers suck and don't promote the kind of criticism BioWare needs to stop making bad games.
I enjoy both Bioware and Obsidian, just wish Obsidian hadn't bailed on making a Wheel of Time RPG....ugh I'm so ready for one and for it to be good!
Just because we're providing positive feedback and ideas doesn't mean we're an echo chamber. I don't remember it being a crime to say why you like something or what you're excited about, especially when there is enough topics to the contrary ranging from the absurd to actually constructive negative feedback. I just think it's nice from time to time to show the developers, if we feel the same way, that we enjoy the work they are doing and to remind them that to us they're doing a good job and that we really want to see more. It has to be hard, regardless of quality of product, to see such negativity day in and day out if they're trying to do better.
What I'm interested/excited about:
- Character creation
- plot turns and twists, basically "how did we get to andromeda and why"
- companions, friendship and romance
- MAKO
- battle mechanics, jetpack
The fact that they're using the Frostbite engine like in DA:I really gives me high hopes for the character creator if they've learned and improved upon said game's version. The universe itself is going to be GORGEOUS and I can't wait to see how expressive all the NPCs are going to be, so much more expressive quality that can be had now.
Cannot wait until we get more class detail. I played Solider in ME1 because I really couldn't get into much of the other ones but as soon as ME2 hit I started making Sentinels as well, and Vanguards in ME3. So many playthroughs with all the different classes and I'm hoping that we see some similarities while adding some fun unique ones!
This!
Wow, so great to see a positive thread, thank you very much!
In addition to simply being obsessed with anything Mass Effect, I personally am looking forward to exploring the amazing planets. I hope we encounter some usual space phenomena, too, a la the Enterprise encountering bizarre nebulae and such in Star Trek
The graphics are going to be amazing and that is truly exciting for a space nut like me.
On a more minute level, Ryder's hair looked amazing, and I'm actually mildly hopefully that our CC won't be awful. I'm considering actually playing a female character for the first time because I'm a little tired of having to play a masculine dude bro all the time, although I get that that is the ME aesthetic when it comes to male PCs.
I love the Mass Effect series as well, I may have put more time in it than any other single player game. I'm glad you enjoy the thread and I hope it keeps the trend going for those that are interested and/or excited.
Rare space phenomena would be kinda cool especially if it can be semi random at times, helps the new unknown galaxy feel more alive. Same thing with all the new planets, some random generated missions or very detailed ones would be great! Branching stories on them and just discovering new things has me super excited.
I used to play default shep a lot in the original series because I didn't mod the game and making custom characters didn't always turn out very well. With how DA:I looked, though, there were so pretty amazing custom inquisitors and I never felt like I couldn't find a new look to accompany my playthroughs. Going to lose hours just making faces and I look forward to the inevitable threads posting screenshots about them as well as the codes to make them!
