Or other key stuff like plot or lore as well as that answering many questions. I'm afraid since the books will answer those questions, the games might gloss over them because "the books explain it".
I have the same fears. This severely impacted the quality of Wicked Eyes Wicked Hearts.
Hopefully we find out more about the timeline of the expedition leaving and the motivation for it.
According to Titan Books the books are unmissable.
I bet they said the same thing about the one where the toothbrush assassin goes tootie in a flowerpot.
Titan Books will publish four new Mass Effect books.
The first by N.K. Jemisin, launches in august and is called Mass Effect: Andromeda Initiative (so not Initiation). The second has no name yet, comes in march 2017 (before launch?) and the third in september 2017 (unnamed). In march 2018, Mac Walters will finish this line with the fourth book.
According to Titan Books the books are unmissable. Some books are prequels, other sequels to the events in the game. I got the information here, and the only interesting new thing about the game itself is that there is talk of a new and deadly enemy (as opposed to 'enemies')
This is a brochure for the The London Book Fair (last march) where publishers sell translations rights to other publishers. Still, the release dates could be changed of course. My experience is that usually the online bookstores have early and no longer accurate information.
Oh nice filler hope they are better than the previous one, i've read DA books and they were good (for a videogame inspired book) but i always heard bad things about the ME series
I also wonder if AI has replaced ARKCON. We haven't seen anything say ARKCON, and the purpose for which we guessed it would be used is now being occupied by "Andromeda Initiative."
Just spitballing here, but if so that's kind of interesting, right? Huge difference between an project labeled "Ark Contingency" (or what have you) and one named "Andromeda Initiative." The former is pretty explicitly a means to escape the Reapers, the latter resonates with Mac's comments that volunteers had many reasons to join (though it was still probably funded in the first place by people who wanted to make an Ark for the Reapers, and the volunteers weren't told that along with the rest of the public).

Codex entries might cover them, but I'd prefer no main plot directly related to the books.I have the same fears. This severely impacted the quality of Wicked Eyes Wicked Hearts.

They better not do anything like that. I swear, that's got to be the most pretentious thing about tie in novels that include major lore and characters.
You run into a character that you are expected to know from the novels, or you encounter an event that was only mentioned in the books, and when you (rightfully) criticize the main platform for lacking in properly explaining those things you get the whole "this was all covered in the book series".
It's like the creators of the setting are insinuating that you aren't a 'true' fan if you haven't read the mountains of tie in material.

Let's be honest, the game was never going to go in-depth about the departure. BioWare usually starts their stories in media res, after all. The way I see it, it was probably either a codex entry/few investigate options, or that and now a full book to explain the backstory. All things considered I'll take more info here.
...Maybe. I really regret reading the Liara finds Shepard comic. The vague idea of what happened in my head was much more satisfying.

Hopefully it'll sort of work out in the way Kahlee Sanders was implemented in Mass Effect 3.
You can encounter Kahlee, complete Grissom Academy, and come out of it not feeling like you were missing out on important stuff that was explained in the books.
However, for those that did read the books, Kahlee's appearance was slightly disappointing, but I understand her not becoming too much of a big thing, since that role was relegated to her appearances in the books.
Anyways, I'm excited for more Mass Effect books. I liked the first three from Drew, avoided Deception, and I'm hoping the fourth one by Mac is good.
Interesting - "Andromeda Initiative" is probably what the new logo "Ai" seen on characters in the trailer is short for...so now we probably have the names of several organizations: A.R.K.C.O.N., Pathfinders, and the Andromeda Initiative.
You might be on to something
I have the same fears. This severely impacted the quality of Wicked Eyes Wicked Hearts.
I'm still annoyed with the whole Kai Leng debacle, "Who is this wannabe cosplayer, and why is he sooo dangerous again?"
And I have yet to forgive Halo 4 for literally tying the entirety of the main plot, and the motivation for the villain to a trilogy of prequel novels.
Holy... FOUR novels with the first this August? You're spoiling me, BioWare.
As long as they aren't Deception level of quality.
The last one will probably be a chose your own adventure with three endings.

It would make sense to a degree that the volunteers would not be informed about the actual purpose of the voyage if the purpose was suppose to be kept a secret to prevent panic from spreading. They'd still gather people who'd be prepared to leave their lives behind if it was known that the trip might take two hundred years and that no return was a strong possibility. They'd also still gather people who had the skill to rebuild a civilisation because it is suppose to be a colonisation effort.
That could give way to a terrific and terrifying moment wherein the colonists learn upon arrival about the Reapers and how all they've known might have been wiped out leaving them the only remnants of their respective societies.
It would not be diminished if the colonists knew they would not arrive until two hundred years later because it'd still have the impact of them discovering that everything they've known might be gone, there might be nothing to return to and again, they might be the only remnants of their respective societies.
Now I am kind of hoping that is how it plays out.
NK Jemisin is terrific - but man oh man, she's the last person I would have thought would write Mass Effect tie-in. Although I do think she's a fan. That'll be one to watch though.
It's entirely likely that it's the first one I read since... whatever the second one was.
Jemisin, as in The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms Jemisin?
Damn... I want to get hyped so bad, but I got epicly burned by Deception last time.
2 books before the game will be onsale (prequel then?) ? eur .......... I'm sure some BSNers will buy and read them so I will patiently wait and see if they worth it before ordering anything. I find it strange to publish books that soon, the game will not even be on sale... I want to avoid spoilers about the plot as much as possible.
Might not be too difficult to believe if the game's also to pre-order around the same time.

If I like the premise of the books enough to buy them, I can post a spoiler-free review of them although I am planning on avoiding spoilers pertaining to the game itself so it'll depend on whether or not there is a sufficently spoiler-free forum section.
Awesome! I enjoyed the Mass Effect novels with the exception of Deception (obviously). If anything I would have expected them to do more comics but I'm glad they went for novels, I much prefer them.
I'm betting most people here haven't even read the first three novels.
What's that? Four novels? Naw, man, they only made three.
Books don't come with voiced protagonists... lame.
