I'm not sure if there is a thread about this already. But I love the thought of us traveling to a planet that's not really advanced at all. Not primitive. But they don't have the technology for in depth space travel like we do. So we become their first contact with another species. What does everyone think about this?

What, and break the prime directive?...

Two possibilities : war and humanity wins, war and humanity looses. Just compare with human history to understand that "cooperation" between people of different technological advancement is a naive dream; the strongest will just takeover.

Hopefully Andromeda will include both extremes.  Super civilized city dwelling folk with big swooshy shiny buildings and whatnot, and less civilized aliens who haven't left their planets yet.

Sorry, but:

Dump the Prime Directive (I always thought that their reasons for it were sound, but I still don't agree with it if the species has discovered electricity already and has artificial items (space stations, satellites) in orbit!)

Part of it is that'd I'd hate it if advanced aliens knew of us but didn't bother because we are "primitives"

ps: Yeah, let's do that and maybe even get their support and maybe even a squad-member!

Bullshit - it could also be that they'd look up to us and are happy to work with us (especially when you show them that it's not only ONE ALIEN SPECIES, but several who seek contact with them!)

You joke, but one of my fondest hopes for the game is that we'll actually get some Star Trek-style first contact/disguise ourselves and move amongst a pre-warp civilisation undetected quests. I've been thinking about this a lot lately and, with what we know about the plot of ME:A so far, they could slot your average TNG episode into the narrative as a key side quest or whatever with very little (narrative) difficulty.

Here's an expanded take on an idea I suggested in another thread:

A Remnant artifact of great importance, or perhaps a piece of Alliance technology - say, a probe that arrived in Andromeda some years before the ark, sent ahead to check for habitable planets - has been detected within a small city on a world with roughly Renaissance-level technology. You have the retrieve it - it's got valuable information/technology that would be dangerous in the wrong hands - without causing any panic, lest whoever is currently in possession of the artifact/probe - which has granted them some limited knowledge of alien civilisations, and some working alien technology - catches wind that you're coming to take it, and does something stupid.

So, you disguise yourselves as natives - for the sake of argument, let's say they're Asari/Quarian-style 'rubber forehead aliens', or perhaps you have access to some advanced hologram disguise tech, or whatever - and have to move amongst the local population, investigating to find the artifact's exact location. Perhaps, along the way, you have a chat with a young inventor about her rudimentary telescope, hinting ever so subtly that there might just be more up there than she could possibly imagine, and that it's people like her who are going to lead her civilisation into a bright future... *camera pans to the Tempest looking majestic as f*ck in orbit, inspiring Star Trek music plays* (Or you can just be a total dick, 'cause this is an RPG.)

Anyways, various shenanigans occur, you find the artifact, maybe there's a moral dilemma/decision to make regarding how you go about retrieving it/how much you really care about upholding the Prime Directive/allowing this culture to develop in peace. Young inventor probably helps you out, maybe finding out about aliens, maybe not depending on how you play it, and so on, and so forth...

Snip. That's what people here do right? I'm new.

This sounds awesome. Maybe you have to disguise yourself by wearing knight-ish looking armor that the soldiers of that species would wear.

Then we can land and say "looks like you need...DEMOCRACY!"

Then the stars and stripes unfurl and eezo mining begins... Sorry, I'll shut up now.

Only if it's a planet filled with Amazons and the only 'negative' outcome is death by SnuSnu.

They might want to work with us, but if we came to their planet as they are less scientifically advanced, it is highly probable that the human would not turn down the chance to control a resourceful planet (as it can host intelligent life). And the question was asked in a setting where the human came first; we would have to tell them about Council of other species...

We should - tell them about us (the other races included, I mean I normally never run a purely human outfit on missions, I always have at least one alien along (on missions that allow it of course), mostly it's either Tali or Liara so far!), but respect any decision they make (this way we don't leave the moral high ground, but we are also not as much "Prime Directive" douchebags as the Federation (sorry, but putting that directive above saving intelligent life from destroying itself/being wipped out in a katastrophe is IMHO cold hearted! Same for letting people stay primitive if you could help them out (and maybe topple all the dicatorships etc.)...sorry, but I am not in favour of such a restrictive directive (it should be a case by case decision!))

We traveled to a new galaxy. All our resources are limited to our ships and what inside them. You need mines, factories and someone to work in them or at least maintain them. And let me remind you that all parts of an IPhone are not made on the same factory, MUCH less a whole spaceship.

Found a new intelligent aliens (a whole planet of them) who are still didn't reach space era:

Find their leaders. Negotiate with or threaten them. Leaders "Encourage" population to harvest resources. You build some infrastructure to refine these resources. Then build a lot of different factories to produce guns, ammo, spaceships, medical equipment and so on. Because if you don't do it fast enough, you and your expedition is doomed when all of the toilets on your spaceships decide break.
