Male power fantasies are the worst kind of fantasy.
As compared to what, female power fantasies? Lesbian power fantasies?
We're all living in a world where power is a factor.

Anyone figured out who's alt this is yet?
9 pages. Hook line and Sinker. Good ole BSN.
leave it to BSNers to come up with threads like this and actually entertain it.

Yup, i mean everyone knows its bait and yet..........

Interactive mediums love power fantasy. And why wouldn't they. Power fantasy in a book is boring, there's no sense in reading it if you know how it's going to end up. As a writer myself, it's often a criticism I level when I speak to my fellows.
But in interactive medium, you take on the role of agent. A powerless agent is sometimes useful depending on the game, but not in a shooter or RPG. ME, as both, could never have someone powerless.
I'm going to say the same thing I always say to remarks like that. Yeah I know that this is a bait thread, but I've seen this said in 100% seriousness before.
Don't play the game and ignore it if it bothers you. BioWare is going to do what they wish. They've never been sexist at all, and I don't think they'd start now. I don't think CDPR is sexist either, nor the writer. Especially due to prostitutes. I mean, really? C'mon. If you want to fly the equality flag, start by being accepting that some media is going to be offensive to some and not for everyone. TW is one of those cases. I don't begrudge their success either.
Also, don't make threads just to bait fans of TW. I'm not a TW fan. I have no interest in the games due to some minor issues with the lore. I'm not bringing them up here because it's not worth the debate. However, I don't sit on the BSN and complain about those issues. If I felt strongly enough about it, I'd take it up with CDPR. It doesn't phase me, because despite the talk on the BSN I find the game series incredibly easy to ignore. I think I'm just burned out and passed the point of giving a flying pyjak about the whole debate.
Besides, there is a lot of reasonable fans of TW3 that are far more interested in how the game handled the sidequests. I pay attention to them, despite some of my issues in the story and lore for the TW series.
yup. i actually tried TW3 and refunded it cuz the camera made me sick. doesnt change the fact that alot of people love the game due to its questing and overall freedom. it is immersion on a whole other level.
i am fairly certain that Bioware knows how to handle immersion. imo that was never a problem in the original ME trilogy. nor DA:I for that matter.
If yeah that's pretty sexist. Equality is the way to go.Power fantasy is how video games are written. Or are you suggesting power fantasy is okay as long as it's only done by women?

Well I actually find powerlessness attractive so it's just weird for people to bash power fantasies or to seclude them to one segment of the population, as if we aren't all participating in one great game.
But to your point I don't think interactive are different from other media really.

Well to be fair, female-power fantasies are almost non-existent. I wouldn't be against having a few games like that, if only for the purpose of female empowerment.

But again what about people that just want to be "dis-empowered?" And kind of avoid all these psychotically violent power fantasies eh?
Hahaha. I like the way many of the posters fall into the trap of this thread. This is funny.

Sure, that would be okay too. I'm honestly okay with anything except male-power fantasies. Mostly because its way overdone and has no place in the 21st century.

Why not?
Don't you find it interesting that threads that end up talking about The Witcher don't get locked by the moderators despite the fact they are clearly off topic?
Wondered that for a while now. Witcher threads on BSN get more traffic than they do on CDPR's site. Then again, just give us back off topic and much of this would sort itself out.
Why not?
Because it promotes values of sexism and hatred towards women and the LGBT community.
Its a video game. There's absolutely no justification for making a game where you play as an old white dude that goes around banging disadvantaged women and roleplay as a misogynist, in a setting that is full of misogyny.
You're right, but this has been a consistent tone of CDPR since the first Witcher. And they've been getting complaints about this since the first game. However, most TW fans support their work so I don't think you can expect CDPR to change the way they make their games.
As far as BioWare is concerned, I doubt they'll ever pick up that one. That's just not the way BioWare has been writing their stories and characters. So, I would just calm down about this issue.
Because it promotes values of sexism and hatred towards women and the LGBT community.
Lol no it doesn't.
Because it promotes values of sexism and hatred towards women and the LGBT community.
How?
Because they often involve a straight, macho, white dude who goes around killing tons of people and sleeping with every woman in sight. They often treat women and LGBT community like crap as well. The Witcher 3 is a very good example of this.
The strongest character in The Witcher 3 is a woman. Actually several of the strongest characters in the franchise are women. And Geralt gets humbled by them and their abilities. Not necessary for a story obviously, but it is a thing.

Just so we're clear, that's a fictional fantasy presentation.
Members of the Partriarchy don't (for the most part) actually go around killing tons of peple and sleeping with every woman in sight.
More likely you'll find them fiddling with commas and periods in a tax exemption statute or something.
If you fail to discern the difference I question your sanity.
In fact I'm going to parllell Natashina's point.. how many people (And/or LGBT) have met an actual member of the Patriarchy? Not seen one on TV or otherwise... or media like in person?

I'd rather go back to talking about fantastic things from TW3 that Bioware could/should take on for later projects.

Go back? Wrong thread friend.
