Wait! You are upset because a game developer created a somewhat culturally realistic medieval setting? You do realize that medieval Europe was hardly a hotbed of women's liberation up to 3rd wave feminist standards and modern day equivalent gay rights?

Geralt runs around behaving the way a man in that setting would, and if you have him taking advantage of every prostitute out there ... well, that's mostly your choice isn't it?

It is generally a mistake to judge a thing that exists in a different historical time period through the social context and mores of your own time.

That being said, I have a hard time thinking you have a whole lot to worry about here. You should be more worried about the Dragon Age franchise which is another quasi-medieval setting. This is a science fiction franchise. We are talking about cultures thousands of years in the future. If you see any cultures taking their cue from The Witcher, it might show up in the structure of an alien species we meet, but it's not like Ryder is suddenly going to be confronted with an Ark that operates like quasi-medieval Europe or something.

Welll that's... I mean ME is set in the future but Asari are space Elves and all that it's clearly taking a feaudal-era inspiration, and the interest in romance around here reflects pretty much exactly like the fixation on Arthurian Romance and such in Medieval times.

I think ME kind of threatens to break some of those molds moreso than possibly another franchise but you can tell there's a grounded interest in those same things. Likewise when it comes to females ME is by no means conservative but it's not the most extreme out there position either.

For instance, the Asari prostitution quest in ME1, and not to mention all the gift based stuff going on in every other Dragon Age/ME.

Plus in a cultural/monetary context pretty much every Warden/Hawk/Inquisitor/Shepard character deals with landed interests, aristocracy, bureaucracy. In ME2 the idea is a kind of peasant relationship to a lord (TIM) in exchange for monetary support and healing etc.

Ignoring for a sec that I'm pretty sure the OP is trolling, there were some things where MEA could do better re: women. Like decent animations, not forcing the PC to sexually harrass people, and letting them shut any flirting down hard. As for more mature themes, I'm somewhat wary because they'd have to be engaged, well, maturely.

Witcher 3 is many leagues above Mass effect in storytelling so yes I really do hope that Bioware takes some storytelling pointers from CDPR.

I agree with the rest, but if anything, Geralt displays an attitude that is very modern for the period.

And as for prostitutes, again the time of the setting needs to be taken into account.

Realistically one less person using their services only meant less wages for them, not a change in perception or line of work.

Which PC is "forced to sexually harass people exactly"? And who exactly needs to "shut down hard" flirting?

Ah man, I'm 18 pages late for this party

Bigotry? In a medieval setting? Ha! It's always something with you ploughing whoresons

I'm thinking specifically of Vega's stuff where even no nicknames couldn't stop the flirting and that she kind of pressures him into sex at the party.

Sounds weird. Didn't play that romance so I can't comment, but perhaps it was open to interpretation.

She does the same thing to Jacob in Mass Effect 2 as well. Even long before getting into a relationship was an option, she was flirting and drooling over him so much that in real life that's a sexual harassment lawsuit.

Did any of them object to this in any way?

Femshep is a bastard, she is actually quite subtle in what she does so you can't sue her for sexual harassment.

But tbh the men don't object, not really. If Shepard initates romance both Jacob and James are like "I didn't look at you this way before" at first. But obviously after this conversation they start to look at Shepard "that way".

I don't know if I should blame or praise the voice actor, she has perfectly synced Shepard's voice to fit these situations.

It's a good point that femshep can be somewhat jerkish.

As all troll thread, people use it as place to talk about all kind of topics. That is one of the good things about troll threads. :)

Why is this an "issue" exactly?

Yennefer is a powerful individual, and her nature is somewhat... shall we say manipulative and controlling, that said, she is not the only sorceress,
nor is she an embodiment of the female gender in general.

Triss's personality for example is rather different, she is more idealistic and much less cynical.

They are both mortals, and both have their own quirks and imperfections, demanding that women be portrayed only as literal angels that can do no wrong, is much more insulting to intelligence of female (or male) players.

It's not an issue in TW3 per se. It's general issue in fiction with how women in these positions of power are portrayed. But I'm not going to derail this thread to have yet another debate on gender and gender norms in our society.

Ironic how the OP is the same person who made the casual sexual encounters thread

what if bioware did the casual sex encounters, and then i buy the game, play as the male PC and go around having casual sex with males and/or females? Would i be Geralt Ryder then?

also, what if i play as the female PC and go around having casual sex with males and/or females? would this infringe upon the territory for which TW3 is receiving hate by the OP? or would this be accepted because its NOT A MALE who is carrying out these actions?

lmao

I hope the character name option is long enough to fit Richard "Rough" as the first name for my Ryder.

Just realized that if Ryder is the character's last name, its a little too easy to mess with their first.
