It's understood that Wardens continue to recruit even in non-Blight years and when the Blight comes, they gather the armies per the Grey Warden. So, during the Dalish origin story, Duncan should not only be interested in recruiting the PC to "cure" her/him, but shouldn't he be also interested in recruiting Mahariel's clan? Of all the Origins, I think in this one, it's apparent the Blight is coming. So why not recruit the whole tribe per the treaty? Or does the lack of a hard copy of the treaties prevent him from doing that? (Hence, the need to recover a copy of the treaties in the Korcari Wilds.)

Duncan is not in posession of the treaties when he recurits the dalish warden. The treaties you use later in the game are the treaties you have to acquire from the ancient Warden outpost in the Korcari Wilds before the Joining. And as Duncan does not posess a physical copy of the treaty, and the dalish may not even know about it - since it was written centuries ago -, proof is needed in order to use the treaties.
Also, conscripting every warrior in the clan is also not an option, since there are too few who can hunt and protect the civilians, and taking them away from their clan would sure doom the others.

He's not just pressganging anyone, he's looking for the best of the best, people who stand out and distinguish themselves. The Dalish PC, for this example, have resisted the taint of the mirror and battled through a ruin filled with giant spiders, the undead and then darkspawn along the way. The Dalish as a whole have sat around their campsite.
Why not do both? Recruit the best of them and then everyone else becomes part of the non!Warden army.

The reason why it wouldn't work is because the Grey Wardens don't have nearly the same level of influence they once had so what they can conscript is basically what they can take without angering other factions too much. What would Duncan do if an entire clan of Dalish Elves said no?

By that logic, why not recruit the entire city of Denerim?

Getting some leverage with the elves is the best reason for him to bother seeking out the treaties. After all, the mages were already helping as much as the treaty obligated them to, and if he was off with the elves, he wasn't with the dwarves to learn there was a problem calling on them. He only finds that out if he rescues the exiled Dwarf noble.

There's no point in gathering all the armies if the archdemon is still miles underground. Even if he's sure it is a Blight, gathering everybody to fight what just looks like a large raid uses up credit/manpower/etc before there's any chance of actually ending the Blight.

I think during the origin phase there is still hope that the kings army will be enough to end the blight before it can spread. They would have won the battle if Loghain had followed the plan and presumably continued to slaughter the darkspawn with relative ease until the archdeamon came out to play which would let the wardens kill it and end the blight. The destruction of the kings army and the ensuring human civil war forces you to recruit non humans to make up the numbers that Ferelden has lost.
