is "Ryder" the surname? anyway, i'll try to create the default male Shepard, but if it doesn't fit, because the surname is indeed ryder, then i'll go with the default male character, paragon first, then renegade, then paragon again i think, i have no idea what will be the story about so there is not much to analyse right now

Yes, Ryder has been confirmed as the protagonist's surname. We were given hints in the N7 Day trailer, in tandem with the "Ghost Riders in the Sky" lyrics from the reveal trailer. The community correctly deduced the truth pretty much immediately.

The surname is an homage to Sally Ride, the first American woman in space.

Anyway for me Bioware is literally the only game where I do this but I basically just always go with one of the defaults, with the exception for Baldur's Gate because like for real.

 

They make pretty amazing default characters.

My first character's personality is always a cypher, so she'll make the choices I would make in her situation.  In this case, she'll be all for peace and interspecies cooperation, but won't suffer any fools or a**holes along her way.  Probably nice to fault until someone crosses her...then the shotgun comes out.

Decidedly vanguard because honestly, punching things in the face is so damn satisfying. "OH, HI, I'M A SCARY ZOMBIE WITH A GUY FOR AN ARM GUN AND... Oh dear, you punched me so hard I exploded. GG." Magnificent. 

 

I usually play a gritty hardboiled detective-type (Johnny Dollar, though usually female when applicable) on my first round through. If we're a bit younger this round, I might crank that down a notch and maybe turn the reluctant hero up a bit.

 

I was going to call her Parker Ryder, but my husband has informed me that that is stupid and if I want to be the first one to play Andromeda, I need to give her a better name. Maybe Rhiannon, since Rhiannon Ryder has a nice ring to it. I will NOT be going with the default, since the default is a cute chick with a broad chin, blue eyes, dark brown hair and a pony tail, and that hits a bit too close to home. I was thinking Inupiat this time around... Hmm.

But, yeah in a game like this I don't create a character backstory or their personality before I play the game as it leads to role playing problems and disappointment with said role playing. I play the game and develop their personality as I go. If ME:A was a game like say Neverwinter Nights then yeah I would plan out a character, but not for this game. 

 

She probably will be an engineer or infiltrator though. Probably engineer, got to keep with tradition (my first ME character was an engineer).

I generally try to start with a "Feel" for the character. Gritty detective, zany smart-aleck, dopey, whatever. Helps me keep those first few dialogue choices consistent and roll from there. Too much detail and you're going to get in trouble though.

Haven't really decided yet. Probably an Adept.. maybe a Sentinel if the class power is more interesting this time around. I'll use a shotgun and a heavy pistol for sure. Alignment I dunno. I'm usually the diplomatic type that tries to please everyone.

Those stats need some context.  The average gamer might play these games one or two times.  They usually just go with whatever is the default.  More dedicated fans like those of us that post here tend to play the game multiple times and we try all sorts of things.  It's too bad more gamers don't open their minds about playing something other than just soldier.  They put work into all of the classes and all six classes are fun in their own way and there are so many ways to experiment with them.

Elle Ryder. She's classy and kind, but she'll kick you in the face if you p*** her off. Also, if possible, I'd like her character to visibly change throughout the game from slighty unsure and insecure greenhorn to experienced badass.

Not sure about the class yet, but I think I'm going for vanguard as canon class this time. My Shepard was a soldier, so it's nice to mix things up.

Yep, that happened to me Played Soldier because it was just there and because I thought I'd never play ME again. Boy, how wrong I was Currently playing the remaining classes before Andromeda drops, so I don't know yet which class I'll take, but I had a lot of fun already with Adept and Engineer. Soldier will not be my first choice this time, and I don't know yet how much I'll like Sentinel, Infiltrator and Vanguard. Coming up soon, I hope.

 

As for who my Ryder will be... a crash test entirely. Definitely male first, and I will try to see how I would react, so very Paragon-ish, but also try out some fun stuff and see what's possible so I can properly RP next time. I'm SO excited for the dialogue system and character interaction.

I haven't deciced yet upon a name as well. If I like the default name, I'll just go with that. My name ideas I have so far are reserved for my 'real' Ryders I will RP accordingly (Alma, Eira, Kimmy, Lee, Evan). I'll likely romance whichever character I end up liking most if it's an option.
