Gonna be either an Adept or a Sentinel and that's about as far as i've gotten.
Who is YOUR Ryder?

I don't play self inserts.
That's why I like general personality templates. Flexible and fun!
I am not actually a gritty noir character, but I sure like playing characters with those notes.

Maybe like a uh, Male, Infiltrator, Paragade. Same thing I did with my canon Shepard.
I don't really like trying new things, when I know one way suits me fine.

Well, I only let beautiful women ryde...hm...ride me ![]()
Still, I don't like the name (we've had a topic about names already!), so I might really do "it" and name my character:
Not Ryder
(or I'll go with my secondary choice of calling him: Saber Ryder (which reminds me of an old fashioned animated TV-Series about a character by that name!))

Sounds far more painful than any other innuendo name I've heard. Good job!

She's going to be a brainy peace-maker in defiance of the stereotypes surrounding red haired women. She'll wax poetically about the wonders of the universe in a Carl Sagan-esque manner that will totally not induce the eye rolls of her more hardened teammates. She'll know her way around a gun by necessity but take no joy in killing unless it's a spider looking creature. Then she'll go all blood rage. Her name will be Amelia after Amelia Earhart. I like Hypatia as well but Hypatia Ryder doesn't sound very good.

This is subject to change due to things such as voice acting, dialogue options and so forth;
Valentyna Ryder is more of a people person than Karmen Ryder and knows better how to approach and reach people. She is going to have trouble with people dying and may have character development where she comes to terms with having to sacrifice people for the good of more. She was a bit more relaxed when it comes to being on duty but still advises caution when it comes to exploration since she knows it's unfamiliar territory and even something like the plants can be dangerous to their health. She is more willing to allow small-talk and slacking if she thinks they are in a non-dangerous situation such as waiting but she'll not allow it when they are exploring the inveviable spooky ruins. When she's off-duty, she's relaxed and likes to spend time with the crew. She's very interested in exploration and the idea of meeting unfamiliar aliens. Unlike Karmen, she'll be more optimistic about what they'll find and who they'll meet.
Like Karmen, she'll be respectful towards her superiors but will speak her opinion if she truely believes they are mistaken about something or if she thinks another course is advised. Whether she'll act against a unchanged order is to be seen.
If it is an option, she might have a good relationship with her family. I haven't quite decided yet.
Design: A lot of her design depends upon what options will be avaliable such as freckles, scars and curly so the following is basically if they are avaliable: I'm imagining her design so far as being dark-skinned, freckled and as having facial scars. Said scars will start out as small things but I may give her larger ones as the story progresses. She'll have curly hair that is cut in a short fashion.
Class: Due to my love for it, Valentyna will likely be a sniper and possibly a biotic to boot. I've loved that combination ever since my Drell Adept.
Karmen Ryder is less of a people person than Valentyna and is going to have some rough-spots with the crew though I'm planning on some character development where that might change. When he is on duty, he does not tolerate slacking or any behavior he deems inappropriate or could cause trouble to the mission as well as endanger the squad. When he is off-duty, he is more relaxed. He is a very private person so he does not like to share his private troubles.
He is very harsh on himself when he thinks he's failed. He tries to be what he thinks is the perfect soldier but that may end up causing him more trouble as he does genuinely care about people even if he is terrible at dealing with them. He's cautious and suspecious towards unfamiliar people or races. Like Valentyna, he is respectful towards his superiors but unlike her, he is less likely to speak up to them unless he thinks they are behaving in a manner unfitting of their command or making poor decisions regarding the mission.
If it is an option, he'll not have a good relationship with his family but may grow to consider his squad or individual squadmembers to be like family.
Design: I'm imagining his design as being black asian with facial scars. I'll be trying to look make his face look serious by default because a major part of his character is that he is stoic. If it is an option, he'll have a ponytail or a manbun.
Class: I haven't quite yet decided on his class. So far, he'll be a sniper like Valentyna but I think he may be an engineer as oppose to a biotic. That or he'll have the invisibility cloak: he was partially based off of Locus from Red vs Blue, after all.
Note: As romance is mostly determined by which character I like the most and whose characterization I think fits the best with the character I am roleplaying, it is subject to change.

Do you know what you're going to name your Ryder? Who is he/she going to be and was their an inspiration behind your choice?
He's going to be someone who's not buying a damn EA game, so his name will be "Dissatisfied Ryder".

I will have to start writing up a back-story template for my up-coming characters.
Definitely will have a somewhat reckless Vanguard called Virgil I "Guss" Ryder.
Eve Ryder will be probably be an adept, especially if they have Reave as a combat ability. I'll decide on her interests and specialties as I know more about the role she plays in the game. I think I'd like her to be a medic, and to love "the old vids."
I know she'll probably be blonde. My Shepard was a redhead, and I tend to make my protagonists one or the other.
I will probably migrate my Eva template to andromeda. If so she will be blond, short hair, cool, calm and an infiltrator. ![]()
I was just sayin. Ryder is supposed to be a reflection of you.
Nope, the choice is up to the player. ![]()

Ghost Ryder, because Bioware left me no choice. Richard could work too, though.
Vanguard, that's for sure. As for looks and character it's way too early to decide without knowing anything about Ryder family.

Having flipped a coin, FemRyder.
In a change from the professional/militarized Shepards I roled, I'm going to go with a civilian-esque 'civie' sort, and as much as a geek as I can. A bit shy, deferrent, and non-confrontational as I can- basic paragon, in effect- but with an intention towards a character arc of growing confidence and assertiveness as she finds her stride and builds confidence.
That won't be too unlike my FemQuisitor, who as a apolitical mage trust into power played much the same role, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I'll make a point of not playing three 'geek' females in a row, but for now I'll save the aggression-playthrough for the maleRydeer.
As for a character flaw... depending on if it's cryo from the Milky Way or not, I may play a passive sort of 'unfamiliar with the alien' sort of quasi-racism. Not in the sense of bigotry or hatred or terra-firma xeno-nationalism, but a 'only lived amongst humans and never seen or dealt with the unknown and unusual' sort. She'll be polite but reserved for aliens until she gets to know them, and while she'll come along she'll probably not be interested in a xeno-romance.
She'll tip-toe any sort of romance, probably- though if a guy pursues her, she might not be confident to rebuff his advances as unwanted at first. We'll see what, if anything, turns up.

If medic is an option, I'd definitely want that for one of my characters even if it is just a in-name-only kind of thing.
Could be interesting with a medic class: most of your ability could work by targeting your squadmates and reducing their cooldowns or healing them for an amount. Some offensive abilities could be like Neural Shock.

So...you basically want Q's personality and Picard mixed with the best of both?
I'm sold! LOL
@Onuris22 That makes me think of Dr Who for some reason..... Split personality between the good friendly diplomatic and wise person and the Overbearing all powerful character that noone can defeat and who defeats whole warfleets with a screwdriver or a few words.

Ventus Ryder
Careful, long story incoming!
Named after the first user of biotics, who was termed to bend the wind to his will in order to move objects, part of a long deceased race, that was said to have lived on a planet oozing with the famous element zero.
Ventus was found as a toddler, by a group of miners, who found a shipwreck, on a planet, that was said to contain ridiculous amounts of element zero. In the ship, were also his parents, who died as they crashed. The miners riddled, how long the little child has been there and how he survived. It came to show, that the very planet, that was the grave of his parents, gifted little Ven with the ability of self regeneration, using biotics without him even knowing. He evolved.
The miners had no idea of the childs abilities, they just noticed his pale skin and bright blue eyes, that were glowing even in the daylight. They took him with them to the next capital planet, to a trading store, were a man in a coat and strange tattoos laid eyes on that kid. He was sure what he was seeing. The reincarnation of a primal biotic being, Ventus himself, inheriting the transcended body of a little boy. The hooded man kindly asked the miners to take the child with him so he could take care of him, train him, because he would otherwise become a source of danger to himself and others. He knew he had to teach the little child how to control his powers.
The hooded man was part of a secret caste of biotic monks, who trained the old arts of enhancing the body with dark energy, flooding their veins with biotics and gaining near supernatural abilities, following and praising the old ways of the first biotics.
Ventus grew up to become the strongest adept there was, without emotions, able to withstand the strongest projectiles, crushing foes with a single grasp and shattering mass, only with the power of his mind and a memory, that was as solid as that of a drell. After his training was finished, the monks set Ven free, giving him one last test. To travel the galaxy and find his own path and place in this vast universe.
For months he was wandering, travelling, not being able to find his own way of life, when suddenly, he found himself in a battle between synthetic abominations, he's never even imagined to exist, fighting against a group of soldiers near a fallen ship. The soldiers screamed for help as they were overwhelmed by the sheer amount of those abominations. Together with Ven, they were able to fight them and achieve victory. The soldiers thanked Ven, as they owed him their life, but they wondered how these soldiers, part of a program, that chose only the strongest soldiers in the galaxy, the N7 soldiers, were not able to withstand the synthetics, but Ven could, as if they were nothing but ants.
Ven decided to join the N7 forces, because that was his easiest way to help others and use his power for something good. The soldier, that trained Ven, was Christian Ryder, a strong biotic user, a vanguard, that was feared among his foes and respected by his friends and comrades. They became close friends.
In the fight against the reapers, Christian lost his life. In his last moments, Ven held Christian's hand. Christian gave Ven his dog tag with the name "Ryder", told him he loved him, like he was his own brother, and faded. Ventus felt sadness.
In the Ark program, Ven was chosen to be a part of the Andromeda colonization. When he was asked what his name was, he answered with a smile:
Ventus Ryder.

Richard Ryder. Dick for short.
I wish they would give him/her default names so that their loved ones aren't calling by their family name or rank. Your family is supposed to be on the Ark too so I can't imagine your mom, dad or siblings calling you Ryder. Especially considering it's their name too.

I hate that surname. Looks like a bad pun. First time across all the BW games I'd be so glad to be addressed by rank-title-whatever, and not the surname.
