I get it, I felt exactly the same way when I first played.  I facepalmed so hard when I met her, the stupid jokes and accent and hair....

Then I re-started the game with a new Inquisitor who was more fun and outgoing, had a sarcastic personality and I decided that she would like Sera.  I roleplayed like a champ pretending that my IQ thought she was awesome and boom, whaddya know?  All of a sudden I get it.  I understand why ppl love her.   She's funny and a refreshing change to almost everyone else in the game.

My advice would be to give her a chance with at least one of your Inquisitors (you could save her for next time), recruit her, be friends with her, and you may see that Sera is in fact a pretty great character.  You just need the right type of IQ, and my stuck up human didn't gel with her at all.  It was my dwarf rogue who was fond of her.

What she said sums up my experience also, expect it was on my 3rd playthrough with my elf mage.

If you befriend her, she goes into her backstory and you get to see a glimpse of why she's the way she is.

My male human mage Inquisitor was much older, around 44 or so. His friendship with her felt more fatherly toward the end, or big brother at the least. My impression was that she appreciated having a mentor as a friend. I think she saw Cassandra in a similar way. Her and Cole were like fighting siblings. In my headcanon, these were my only party companions in the end, though I did have Dorian and Iron Bull in JoH and Descent, but I saw them as leaving shortly after Descent concluded, with Sera and Cole as the only ones sticking with the Inquisition, as well as romanced Cassandra of course.

So at the end Sera felt like family. You are even given the option to say as much through the Inquisitor and Sera reacts warmly to it.

I agree with OP completely. I couldn't like her even after third playthrough. Actually, I started a new game with Rogue Lavellan and when I met Sera I didn't recruit her. I don't hate her but she just doesn't grow up. I admit I sometimes like people and characters who can't grow up but I couldn't like Sera. I know her story and I understood why she didn't like being "elfy" but still I think she is like a child most of the time.

There are (at least) two distinct meanings of the word noble. The first is to describe a person who has status or power on the basis of parentage, or in other words a parasite who has an ancestor who was a bigger thug or usurer than most of the others in their era. The second is a person of high moral qualities or lofty ideals. (I will leave out the person distinguished by splendour or magnificence of appearance, i. e. a clothes horse.)

While Sera does not qualify as one of the former, she is someone who has high ideals, specifically acting for the poor and those unable to defend themselves. However I like her as a companion because you can take her into situations where you know she will be terrified and out of her depth, yet she fights on regardless. And that, to my mind, is true nobility.

She may try to hit you though. So I wouldn't put her in those types of situations.

If that's the worst she does, I can live with it. It's not from the heart, which is what counts.

Sera saved my group again today..I took control of Sera  and defeated the baddie. That's the 4th or 5th time I had to use her to get out of a bad situation.

My point..

You never know when a strong archer will come in handy when everybody else is dead..

Sera, Sera, Sera...

She annoyed me greatly in my first few playthroughs.  Then I forced myself to keep her around and discovered she has some much needed insight on the rest of the crew.  I greatly enjoyed her contempt for Solas as a matter of fact.  However I still can't get to the point where she is 'greatly appreciative' of what I do.  I will *not* go pranks about with her for instance.  And I am usually mindful of the bigger picture; which means she more often than not disapproves of what I do.  All in all, she's more a liability than an asset.

As the Inquisitor is "victim of a series of accidents" Sera is the equivalent of the slave repeating the warning 'Remember you are mortal' at a triumph. Any Inquisitor who ignores this is due for a meeting at Pompey's statue.

You can recruit her, get the jar of bees schematic and then leave her alone. The schematic is added to your collection and can be gained from the golden nugget in other playthroughs.

After the first PT, I generally either don't bother speaking to her much or don't recruit her at all. In later PTs, I didn't bother recruiting her and Vivian.

Yup Tempest spec with the fire potion that takes away cost and cooldown on abilities is kinda OP.  My IQ is a rogue archer tempest too between me and Sera we can clear packs pretty fast with both of us popping our fire pots and spamming 8 long shots (4 each).

EDIT: speaking of Sera in combat...anyone else like the way she shrieks, yells and grunts when she shoots her bow?  kinda reminds me of how Squirrel Girl in Marvel Heroes will shriek when she attacks.  And i dont mean some Karate "hiiii-yaaaaah!"  i mean she shrieks like she's hysterical  and freaking out...but she's actually in control and kicking somebodies ass.

Ha, of all the things I have seen Sera compared to, Squirrel Girl is definitely the strangest, but I love it.

My Inq was a human noble slight-stick-in-the-mud who nevertheless was (mostly) patient with Sera and didn't taker her rudeness personally (and wasn't shy about giving some back now and then). I think this made for some interesting chemistry between the two. While my Inq didn't do pranks (politely declining) and wasn't particularly enthused with Sera during her personal quest, she still enjoyed Sera's company and weirdness, and eating shitty cookies on the roof. Sera helped lighten her up a bit and in return, by the end, my Inq guided Sera's punk rock Robin Hood energy into something more practical and helpful than merely ****** with nobles, and Sera appreciated that (going by her main game end dialogue and Trespasser tavern scenes).

As far as how this worked Approval-wise, evidently they shared some common ground and my Inq made enough decisions that Sera liked.

Btw I recommend taking a party of Sera + Iron Bull and/or Dorian with you often, OP. My favorite banter in the game.

Just skip through her dialogue, that's what I did. She's annoying and I could barely understand what she was trying to say, so I couldn't tell you if you'd be missing out on any good dialogue.

I think Sera adds a nice touch of 'reality' so to speak to the game. There's this giant massive drama going on, magic, demons and a talking darkspawn all over the place, the world is going to end, doom doom doom etc. Many companions have serious issues, adding even more to the drama.

And then there's Sera. "Let's prank people and throw cakes in their faces!"

So take her childish fart jokes as a tool for your Inq to remember to have some fun and laugh for no reason every now and then ;P

Who are you?

*ramblerambleramblerambleramble* in your face I'm sera innit yeah?

Do you have soldiers?

*ramblerambleramblerambleramble* No.

I don't think this is working.

*ramblerambleramblerambleramble*

Alright I'm out of here.

And that's the extent of my interaction with Sera.

Joseph,My favorite at the meeting. Obey me arrow in my face.

10K, If you can't understand Sera stay away from some areas of the country and don't go into the Army or any branch of service.

Sera haters will never understand how much fun she is and how strong of a archer is she. She worth 100 nay,1,000 "Its spa day darling" Vivienne. I wonder what she thinks when my Inquisitor is a no show at her little trap party? The only reason she invites you to her party is to join the Inquisition-a big fail in my games.

What does this have to do with a character in a videogame? If I were to go to another country where the people didn't speak the same language as I do, I would make an effort to learn their language. Sara on the other hand speaks English, she just doesn't know how to pronunciate in a way that some can understand her. I am not apart of any military branch or nothing like that, but I am a paramedic and I've spent some time in Israel, New York, southern California area, and even worked in Florida. I've never had a patient in which I couldn't understand them on some level. Sera is just on her own level. Some people can understand her some can not.

LOL you talking about New York, SoCal and Florida? where they say it New Yak, where they say hella and where they...i dont know what they do in Florida? they say alligators instead of crocodiles?

Ever been to Great Britain, Ireland or Scotland? not the nice parts of the country but the run down or poor places (where i assume education is a factor in how well people talk).

Lots of movies poke fun at thick English accents.  Like in Austin Powers when he asked his dad to talk "English English" or Brad Pitt in Snatch? how about anybody from Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels?  There is *some* truth there.  Go to youtube and do a search for thick english accents or cockney english or similar terms.  English also has their way or replacing words or phrases with slang terms. Like instead of saying bleeding or blood they say claret or whatever. I dont even know what some of the phrase slang is.  I'd use an example from one of the movies i mentioned but i dont know how much they use that IRL.

You go to a country like that you not only have to learn the language, but you have to learn the dialect and slang terms they use.  Given Sera's upbringing it makes sense that she talks the way she does.  Actually if you listen to that youtube video it sounds like he shortens a lot of his words.  The same way Sera says "innit" instead of "isnt it".

No you should remove her right now and forget she ever existed if you feel the way you do about her.  Unless you have an Ebeneezer Scrooge like 4 ghost visit at some point in time you feelings will not change.

Sera's accent comes off as Cockney to me, which is I think what they were going for. (To be fair, most of my experience with British accents is Doctor Who and Discworld novels.)

Sera shares her voice actress's Derbyshire accent.
