If you don't get on and stay on the DLC money train from the beginning (e.g., Deluxe + Season Pass -- in general, if there is one), it's a sure bet the economics of game lifecycles will screw you.

Put another way, the opportunity to sell GOTY to newcomers far outweighs the business they give up by not offering the Deluxe + no DLC segment a better option.
