I like this. A female krogan shaman squadmate? Basically a biotic tank, sounds cool.

That's an intriguing possibility. We've basically seen the prototype of male warrior krogan with Wrex and Grunt, no matter if they were different variations of it, so female krogan might be the ideal twist to see a different side of their race.

Would also explain the armour.

It is most definitely a krogan. From the leg shape to the head plating, you can honestly just tell that it is a krogan; you don't need to see its face to know this. The krogan have a pretty distinct type of foot, too, and that character's foot looks like a krogan's one, to me.
