Hi

I am a level 19 human male warrior with 80+ hours played. I have romanced Cassandra and completed her personal quest. I also completed Varric's, Solas', Cole's, Leliana's personal quests. I occacionally flirted with different characters. I never met Blackwall or Sera but I found Iron Bull - didn't get any personal quest from him, though.

I am on the last stage of the main quest (Doom Upon All the World). Last night I started that quest without realizing that it was the final main mission. It was sort of anti-climatic experience. (after the connections that I've built, agents acquired, etc.). I didn't even speak to the people at the party (post war celebration) afterwards and just went to my quarters. But it was nice when Cassandra joined me (romance scene). Still, after the credits rolled it felt pointless to go on playing.

So I decided to go back to my backup save (before I started Doom Upon All the World mission) and pretend that my aforementioned anti-climatic experience was merely a dream - a premonition of the things to be. I didn't even finish Varric's and Josephine's (Inner Circle) quests before realizing that it was over and Skyhold suddenly turned into a sterile, cold and indifferent environment. I had much higher hopes for the climax and the payoff of the ending. I thought, that all the power that I have gathered: agents, factions, characters, claimed areas, important quests would pay off in some way as it did in Mass Effect 3. But nope - it didn't feel the same in DA:I. I tried finding a fine balance between: not rushing too much and just getting it over with.

1). Is it worth exploring more before finishing the final quest? Would it make sense to explore some specific areas AFTER finishing the main quest? And what about DLCs - are they worth it? I am really confused - on the one hand I want things to be a surprise, but on the other hand I expect certain things to pay off after my actions from the previous games. I want some expectation of what to do, to experience the "right" things. Tbh DA:I feels a bit sandboxy like Skyrim did - that is why I miss some limitations. I miss the narrower path of the older games with the main quest in focus a bit more. I feel like I claimed too many areas, collected too many shards and did too many generic quests to no avail.

2). Is it worth finding Blackwall and Sera? Or is it too late to build any form of friendship with them? I was thinking to just forget about them and save them til the next playthrough.

3). Is there any place worth going where there is a "shrine" (maybe some book, statue, crypt, etc.) of some sort that honors my dead Grey Warden (Hero of Ferelden) who died in DA:O killing the Archdemon? A hero giving his life to save the world seems like a very significant thing to a story but I didn't seem to find much appreciation for it besides a few comments from Leliana and Morrigan - and some "Hero of Ferelden" text at the loading screen. My dream was to find a beautiful crypt (in Redcliffe perhaps) with flowers and engraving with text like "Here lies Satovir, hero of Ferelden, saviour of Redcliffe." and a few people mourning him, probably telling a few stories about his good deeds from DA:O. *sigh* something tells me that BioWare "forgot" to do something like this - would be so awesome, though.

4). (without spoiling too much) Is it possible to find Alistair, Loghain and the Enchantment-dwarves (Sandel: "enchaaaantment!")?

5). My current romance with Cassandra. Will it live on after I finish the main Q? Will there be any other romantic scenes (meanwhile doing other stuff like DLCs)? If not, can I start new romances? (My final romance scene with Cassandra didn't make much sense. It seemed like Cassandra was sad that I would become way too busy to see her... or something. Not giving me much clue what to expect from that relationship)

6). Should I explore different areas using different combinations of party members to hear their conversations? Almost entire game I've played with: Varric, Solas and Cole (had lots of fun hearing their talks). Can I expect new entertaining conversations from new combos of characters? I am not sure how the banter mechanism works - is it area specific? Are there a number of conversations between certain characters that become "depleted" after some time?

7). Any general advice?

Thanks in advance! And thanks for reading :)

1) I found it better to do most of the exploring before the final quest, specifically because your companions only have one more thing to say to you after it (post party) and then there is no more interaction.   They will still banter when out and about but it sounds weird because they talk as though Corypheus has not yet been defeated.  The only exception to this is the DLC JoH and the Descent because whilst you can do it before the last fight with Cory, it makes more sense that these would be things you do in the time after defeating him.   Plus if you do them before, you will be so powerful the final battle will be over in a flash.    The DLC Trespasser can only be done after you have completed the main game, since it is an extended epilogue to the main story, and shuts off doing anything else.   You want to do this at least but I enjoyed all the DLC; to some extent they are more enjoyable than many of the areas you visit in the main game because of the insights you get into new cultures (Jaws of Hakkon & Descent) and additional lore.

2) If you haven't found Blackwall and Sera before you went to the Arbor Wilds, then it is not worth finding them now.   Certain companion specific quests seem to end on doing that quest.    You certainly need to do anything related to companions before Doom on the World because after it they will definitely be shut off.   With Iron Bull you probably didn't get his approval high enough to trigger his personal quest.   This happened to me the first run.   Take him on a dragon hunt as that will usually do the trick.

3) There is no shrine to the Warden if dead.   There is a griffon statue in Redcliffe and that is about it.   Any shrine would probably be in Denerim and we don't go there.

4) This depends on who was alive at the end of DAO.  Assuming that both Alistair and Loghain were, then I presume Loghain should have still been in the Wardens.   In which case, I'd have thought you would already have met him.   Was Alistair king in your world state?   You can meet him as such but it depends on which path you take to seal the Breach (mage or Templar).   Otherwise he is just heard from through War Table missions.   Otherwise, if not made king, and Loghain was left alive, then you will not see Alistair.   In that event he would have had a cameo in DA2.   I don't know if anyone mentions him in DAI but I'm pretty sure you don't meet him.   There is a mention of Sandal in one of the DLC.

5) Apart from one conversation post Doom, the romances do not continue on after the main game unless you play Trespasser, when there are scenes with them.   You cannot start a new romance after the main game.    In fact you cannot start a new romance if you are "locked" into the old one.   If you are still getting the broken heart icon then you can break it off and start anew.   If not, then you are locked into your current romance.

6) You can vary the party and get conversations post Doom.   In fact there have been a considerable number of updates and somewhere along the line this seems to have improved the banter trigger in game.   Some party members do seem to make for more frequent conversation than others though.    The party banter will also continue into the DLC Jaws of Hakkon and the Descent but not into Trespasser.   There is a different mechanism for banter in the latter and the conversations are only found in that DLC.

7) Suggest you try playing through again from the beginning, having set up a new world state in the Keep, as this will allow you to follow whichever path you didn't choose the first run and the differences that the entries in the Keep can make, plus start a new romance, find people you haven't previously, mix and match different party members, etc.    If you haven't the time to do this at present, then definitely try the DLC. Trespasser is something of a must.

i got the exact same anti-climax feeling and put off playing the last big story quest till i'd been and played both DLCs (JoH and deeproads) and finished everything, because once you do they just don't want to know you. As i was taking so long to get to the final bit i got Cullen getting all huffy at the war table though and saying something like 'just tired of waiting for this to be over,' which i thought was a bit narky from my darling LI!

Q1. do it all before the doom thing. Nobody cares after doom. they all just want to go home.

Q2. i had blackwall but sent sera away cos she annoyed me. your choice.

Q3. no idea.

Q4. i met alistair.

Q5. well Cullen got a bit 'oh you're here to distract me again are you?' with me and i didn't get anymore cut-scenes. no idea about starting new romances. i don't recall any heart options with anyone, nor the option to ditch the one i was in.

Q6. Yes. some chars hate each other and some just do fun banter and stuff. explore away :D

Q7. yes. all this

So yeah, do everything because they cut you dead once Cory is dust. That way you can go straight to the Trespasser DLC and it all feels a bit more like 'hey i am a hero' rather than 'hey, remember me?' :D
