It's Kelly's fault.
Anyway, I'm okay with a harem. But it should function in the proper way a harem should. You spend a night with a different woman each time, and if she has a child, the mother raises him.

Mordin literally says it can only be transmitted by Varren. Either the virus has adapted, or there is a Varen on the ship screwing half the crew.

It's only "carried" by varren. Not "transmitted" by varren. Some diseases can breach barriers like that. Bird flu, to name one.

Exactly. The disease has adapted like the Avian Influenza. Hence the unpleasant implications.
If a STD can only be carried by Varren, it can only be transmitted by them as well.
