The Milky Way had a culling every 50k years or so. Imagine a galaxy without that happening. The Reapers essentially "culled" any technological advancement more advanced than they were simply by killing everything that came close.
One thing that always bugged me. How did they know, that the milky way was the only galaxy getting kicked in the nuts every 50.000 years? The reapers remained in the void between stellar systems, they could easily have visited Andromeda, or in fact, just visited other galaxies and invaded them in the mean time. Or what if the protheans had an ancient "prothean" race before them, that they tried to gain knowledge about, that could have fled to Andromeda? Or the races before? Or the reaces before the races before? Or did the Andromeda galaxy stay untouched the whole time? Or maybe the reapers visited Andromeda and they got their synthetic azzes handed to them? Everything's possible.
Guess we'll find out once we play the actual game.

I'm hoping the Reapers turn out to have been active in the entire Local Group. It would explain why the Milky Way colonists don't encounter an alien civilization far more advanced than themselves, similar to the ancient Leviathan empire, and also might explain how the Remnant became the Remnant. It is possible that the Realers were doing their thing in Andromeda at the same time as the Milky Way Reaper War, and Shepard's end choice disrupted that. While Reapers in Andromeda wouldn't be directly impacted by the Destroy blast, it's possible they could have been negatively affected by the Catalyst and thousands(?) of other Reapers plugged into the hive mind simultaneously going dark.
It might be neat to have Shepard's actions indirectly impact the Andromeda setting, particularly if the "spared" Remnant turn out to be the game's true antagonists.

Whuuuuuuuuuuuuut? With orange light coming from them, which matches the golem thing from the trailer.
At first I was about to ask what I missed, but as I typed I realized. You mean the big fella drooling green stuff and looking like he'd recently been set on fire?
I don't know. Maybe I need to see these leaked pics. I never saw them. I thought that guy was another of those big, charging monsters. This one just looked like it got into melee range, and had gotten acquainted with "Heavy Incinerate", or something similar.
The name "Remnant", and the golem description, make me suspect that these guys transcended their fleshly forms at some point, and that the golems are just vessels. The "Remnant" were the last of this species with whom anyone interacted, and that was probably long ago. We, of course, will awaken these ascended, god-like a-holes, at some point, in our race to hoard their tech for ourselves. Alternately, the Khet will awaken them, as they try to beat us to the punch.

Doubt it but I wouldn't be suprised if we ran into the descendants of a MW race that had some of their members migrant over to Andromeda from a previous cycle. If we could get some people out of there so could others.

According to the Catalyst, without the culling, all organics would be wiped by synthetics.
If in Andromeda we find this never happened, it means the catalyst was wrong.
Which means synthesis ending is BS.
As we all knew since we first knew of it.
We don't need confirmation from another galaxy that Starscrub was wrong - we've seen it in our own galaxy with the Geth and Quarians. Never trust a machine with an IQ on par with a Kardashian's.
Anyway, on-topic, as much as I like the Protheans, I'd much prefer something new this time around. Hopefully they'll also be creative enough with this new race and they wont have died out for similar reasons as the Protheans. Otherwise, they'd practically just be a reskin.
But I'm definitely down for them actually being Protoss.

This is interesting, do you have any links about people talking about this. Even back when the later survey leaked onto Eurogamer et al. I never saw any mention of this panel, or in later discussions of leaks.
Also never heard anything about the Khet anywhere.
