Hi

I am considering a fresh playthrough from A to Z.

DA:O > DA2 > DA:I

I am very picky about what sort of content I want to play in a game that already offers so much content. Usually I don't do many side quests and just stick to the main story. Ofcourse, I make the companions' personal quests if I like them.

I want a DLC to feel like a significant addition to my main story and not just a filler. I would rather prefer to spend some time playing a DLC or an expansion where the consequences of that playthrough echo in Dragon Age Inquisition.

1). Which DLCs are worth buying for all three games?

2). Which chronological order should I play those DLCs in so they make sense?

3). And what about Dragon Age (1) Awakening expansion - is it worth it? Will any actions from here play a significant role in the next two games? I heard some bad things about it once.

Thanks for your patience

The decisions made in the first 2 games don't really have a dramatic impact on DAI, and that's doubly true for the DLCs. Some of them do add some important context story-wise though. For me, I'd say that the most relevant DLCs story-wise are:

  • DAO - The Stone Prisoner, which adds Shale as a companion and the Awakening expansion, which covers the aftermath of the Blight and introduces a character that has some important story implications regarding Inquisition. Stone Prisoner should be completed right after Lothering to recruit Shale as early as possible. Awakening can only be completed post-game.
  • DA2 - The Exiled Prince which adds Sebastian and Legacy, which introduces DAI's main villain. Sebastian's mission can be completed in Act 1 but he only joins your party in Act 2. I usually do Legacy sometime in Act 3.
  • DAI - Trespasser is critical from a story perspective.

DA:O's Witch Hunt might be considered important, depending on how important Morrigan is to your Warden. That should be played last.

Yeah according to your parameters that's right but I'm sure we'd recommend more dlc out side of that.

DAO:  Return to Ostagar has a knife and sword and two handed hammer.

DA2:  The exiled prince has a nice shield.

Mark of the Assassin is a good dlc so is Legacy

DAI:  I didn't like but I'm pretty sure many people would recommend all of dlc for it.   :P

I am not interested in items but rather a good meaningful story that preferably provokes some responces from my henchmen :)

Witch Hunt (Origins), Awakening (expansion for Origins), Legacy (2), and Trespasser (Inquisition) are the only ones that are significant to the main plot.

Others are flavor, add characters, add items, add lore, add adventure.

I've played them all except Darkspawn Chronicles... as I didn't care to play in some alternate timeline and can't be canon.

I liked them, and I still hope for another DLC that is similar to Leliana's Song, as in a small story where you play someone who isn't the PC. Playing as a Red Jenny or Qunari would be cool.
