omni tools :

No to first person view.
If it is just for the omni tool to communicate or something similar then maybe yes.
Wouldn't really work in a third person game I guess? It would be nice but you have to wonder whether our technology would even be compatible with any technology that we find in the Andromeda galaxy in the first place. At the very least we should have to reverse engineer some sort of compatibility patch/upgrade from Andromeda technology before we can use our omni-tools to interface.
I liked that Omni tool that was used in the video i only hope that using it will not be that complicated.
I'm a huge fan of the little ghost thing in Destiny, although I've only played it at a friend's place. Just the idea of having an interactive tool with you, in such a big game, makes me happy. You could use it as a map, a scanning device, a communication device, an inventory and information managing device, a useful tool for combat, shaping it into a bow, shield or hammer like we had seen hints and signs in ME3 multiplayer.
Just something to play around a little and not putting up random UI, when I press the menu button. It adds so much immersion and fun to the little things in a game.
I hope so, something like Dead Space could work. And if would really fits the 'no-loading' aspect they are going for in Andromeda.
Hopefully the new omnitools will have a larger app environment.
I mean, in the previous three games, the only new feature we got was to stab people with it.
Like a futuristic holographic Pip-Boy? You use it to see the map, the codex, the journal (what you have to do), save the game, see stats, play music...
It could be fun, I really like the idea ![]()

I'd love this (I'd love it to work like an extremely pimped Fallout Pip-Boy
- meaning it monitor's your health (even when you aren't wearing full armor), it scans your surroundings for live-forms (which appear in the HUD if you wear armor or an armor independent HUD, like a visor or targeting-display), machines etc., provides a personal computer (takes notes, wakes you in the morning etc.) and interfaces with any other tech you might be wearing (like say a mass-effect-generator on your belt, for shields) etc. etc.)
Oh, and for christ's sake: I want to re-color it (Orange might be the trademark-color, but I'd rather have either different colored sections, like what the OP is showing in that vid, or at least another color (organge is visible over great distances, particularly because it's so BRIGHT!)
ps: I'll never get this (note: Somehow my jumpy brain jumped from "Oh..Omni-Tool, to: Oh, ME-Space-Combat!): But why doesn't the Normandy crew put on space-suits (armor!) as soon as it's engaged in combat (hull-breaches are after all part of combat and mass effect fields might not snap into place fast enough/might be disabled if the ship's too damaged to generate them anymore!)?
No to first person view.
then it's a good thing this thread isn't calling for first-person, isn't it?
Everything we saw in the video is in first person not just for omni tool.
You seem to have completely missed my point.Everything we saw in the video is in first person not just for omni tool.
To be fair to the techs with their wonderous omni-tool, i support basic functionality, like the menu UI stemming from the omni-tool but anything more advanced, like scanning, shield, etc. should stay within the realm of the tech-based classes, such as infiltrator. Because if anyone's going to know how to handle an omni-blade, it's an infiltrator.
I heard from the leak that we can pull up a shield. I believe as it appears most info is confirmed.
Reddit. Yeah.Which leak? The early survey? I thought I'd kept up with all the info.
N7 using Omni-tools,0.58~1.01
I want this Omni-tool interface to be like Dead Space or something similar to the ME3 E3 demo's interface of menus.

like this ?
like this ?
Yes, like that. Not some Mission Computer that overlays the entire screen. I don't hate it, but I think it could have been much better.
I went looking for pictures to get a better idea of how an in-game, omni-tool based menu would work - great idea, by the by - and I've come to something of a realisation. First, take a look at this:
And these:

These are all taken from Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. Methinks BioWare might've taken a little inspiration from everyone's favourite *crickets chirping* early 2000s CG animated movie when it comes to the design of Mass Effect's in-game user interfaces. (To be clear, I'm not doing that dumb Internet thing where I accuse them of 'ripping off' Final Fantasy, or whatever - there's nothing wrong with taking inspiration from something to make something else, and Mass Effect has always worn its influences on its sleeve - but I'd never noticed the similarity before.)
Anyways, count me in for some omni-tool-based UI. I pretty much always enjoy it when UI stuff that's typically confined to an abstract menu is actually rendered as a real thing in the game world, from the modern Fallout games' Pip-Boys - Fallout 1 and 2 still had Pip-Boys, but you didn't see your character actually holding/wearing them, or anything - to Far Cry 2's map, and then to Dead Space's holograms. I don't really mind how they do it, either--we could either zoom in on our wrists/forearm, Fallout-style, or have a hologram projected in the third person, like in Dead Space--I'm happy either way.
