what role will they have in the story?

1) Horned Krogan roaring in the 2014 video

2) Dressed up Krogan charging alongside Trailer N7 Guy into combat

3) Pink Pimp Suit Krogan with a fartgrenade in leak video

4) Krogan on ship [probably the Tempest]

5) Krogan investigating wreckage site

6) Tribal Krogan in cover with White Armor Char

7) Krogan wearing "Grunt-like" armor dropping human

A large number of different Krogans shown in very little footage.  Trailer N7 Guy has at least two Krogans.  Among Milky Way Races, Bioware has made them 2nd only to humans in Andromeda.

Going to Andromeda happens before the end of The Reaper Wars, when life for Krogan is still shitty.  Krogan goonies are mercenary with nothing to lose, so they'll take the risk of journeying to Andromeda for a better life.

People take risks when things aren't going well.

It is possible the krogan that we see were recruited as explorers in case of toxic enviroments. They wouldn't be able to reproduce so wouldn't pose a risk that way and a lot of mercenary krogan don't care about their own race so they wouldn't necessarily have any loyalty that they consider worth staying for. If they think the exploration gig is worth it, they'll likely not care about the race that's employing them.

If the team decided to keep krogan on as a reproducing race, they could pull an Okeer and have them reproduce through artificial means. This could potentially solve the problem of explosive breeding while allowing the Andromeda krogan to maintain a stabile population.

I wish you were able to say "Been there, done that. It wasn't that great," after he says that line.

I'm pretty excited for that. Krogans are probably my favorite species in Mass Effect. That doesn't mean that I cured them every time. I just like their lore and history. To me they are a bit like the forgotten and downtrodden race (not literally, as they will trod you down irl). They fact that they live on an apocalyptic planet, are affected by a population control genetic disease, but are still the toughest warriors, just makes them great. I hope we get loads of interesting Krogans in Andromeda. I really want to see a Krogan ship as well. Hopefully a dreadnought

I suspect there's some overlap on this list, but that doesn't change the fact that we have seen a lot of Krogan. These guys are good in a fight, and crazily durable, so they're not a bad choice for "expeditionary muscle".

I like that we see a Krogan on the deck of Tempest (presumably), sitting at a console, handling business. Too often, the Krogan we dealt with in the trilogy came across a goons and meatheads, maybe because they were. It's easy to forget that it takes brains, and not just numbers, to bring the galactic government to the brink of defeat.

It will be good to hopefully see more Krogan portrayed with intelligence in MEA.

There was also a tweet about parachuting into a Volcano to fight Krogan.

Which I thought I was a classy touch.

They are revealing the new races one at a time.

We just received the first asari teaser in a similar fashion to the first krogan one, so expect the following trailers to have asari in them more prevalently, then we will get another small teaser for a race, and then they will be heavy in the marketing

Kroggies got priority this time for unconfirmed reasons.

They aren't even the most popular race.

Or they could make a cure (who says they don't have that data - I mean there's Salarians along and many of them will probably be scientists and/or STG and they have made that Genophage, so they probably know how to fix it (even without Malon's data))

ps: The Arks might only leave directly before the final battle in ME3 (so the Krogan would be cured - unless you are a douchebag...I mean there probably won't be a safe-import because they don't want the trillogy influencing ME:A but having STG agents/scientists along gives them an easy way out (I am sure the Arks store a lot of data, from top secret information (plans for all the tech the races back home have, scientific data etc.) to cultural stuff (music, books, comics, movies - hell, even games!) and medical manuals, history etc.!) without outright saying that the genophage was cured!)

pps: Maybe they handed that cure out as a sign-up-bonus? (Krogans are mercenarries, but many of them would fight for anybody who'd cure that genophage and not all of them are stupid blockheads (like Wreave!) - there's Wrex, Grunt and even Okeer! Just select the best and brightest and make them an offer they can't refuse (and they will not even be a danger back home if it backfires...and with dangerous exploration taking it's toll, they might not even breed overly much (if not: there surely are genophage 2.0 files on the Arks, too!)

Okeer was pretty badAZZ.

They're insanely durable, eager for a good fight, and live for centuries if not millenia. I could think of worse muscle to bring along in an expedition that goes into completely uncharted territory.

Plus, visually they're one of the most distinctive races in Mass Effect.

You got my mind working.

What role will our Salarian squaddie have.  Will he be the surveyor.  The smart man evaluating which planets have ecosystems suitable for milky way life.

If the krogan were building their own arks that would be one thing. The question is: Why the hell would we want them coming pre-ME3? They are just a liability.

Can survive all kinds of environments.  We don't know what's out there in Andromeda.

2000 year lifespan would mean you get the most out of them before they kick the bucket as well.

Maybe that's why the one in the trailer is so young?

2000? I thought they were tied with the Asari.
