Velanna from DAA and Fenris from DA2 would be interesting. They could either help the next PC stop Solas or even be villains, since they are more likely to support Solas's agendas than another other followers in previous games. Since the next game will be set in Tevinter seeing Wynne and Shale would be interesting (DA Keep allows us to decide if Wynne lives). If the Qunari have a major part in the next game seeing Sten and Tallis would be interesting.

Alistair, Leliana, Morrigan, Aveline, Varric, Merrill, Cassandra, Cole, Dorian, Vivienne, and Lace Harding are my top choices.

In particular I'd like to see Scout Harding, Aveline, Isabela, Dorian and Varric.  Fenris would be great, especially seeing how we're in Tevinter, but his fate is so varied that I'm not sure BioWare would want to bother bringing him back.

Just wondering if she is really dead because Dragon Age Keep gave you the option of deciding her fate in creating a background world to import to DAI.

As far as I know, the Keep is about whether she died in DAO or went on to help Shale and be part of later events or not.  If she survived DAO then she did then go on to die in the book.

Seeing Shale and the original Sten would be great depending on the World State, and I would love to see Flemeth return; what is left of her. And I am all for keeping ties with the original games. However, I would like to see Companion members drop to six instead of nine; two reps per class.

Alistair but I seriously doubt he will have an important role in the next game.  Flemeth could have a major role depending on whether she's dead or not.  Morrigan, Leliana, Merrill cause she's an elf.

I kind of thought that Flemeth has some big plan for the world but the end of DAI made me question if she will be around. She was only saving heroes in DAI and DAO because she is Mythal and that fulfilled Mythal's mission, not because she has any great plans. Now that her true purpose is revealed it seems that she is done and doesn't serve any purpose for the DA story.

I'd like them to keep up the practice of having one or two relevant familiar faces from the prior game, but that's it. Otherwise new cast is the way to go.

If we're going to Tevinter, we should obviously get Dorian. As for other characters - my pipe dream is Charade, and I'd really dig Harding too.

Seriously, a romanceable Rylen and he'd have to be as clumsily outspoken and adorably awkward as he was at Griffon Wing Keep. I have my own story I'd put with him, (nothing written down though) but I'd be interested to see what can be done with his character. Cullen, (IMO Cullen is DA necessity, he's been in every game and his story should continue.) Dorian, Fenris, Zevran, Lelianna, Morrigan, Flemeth/Mythal(IMO it wouldn't be DA without Flemeth and Kate Mulgrew has such an awesome voice), Anders/Justice, Alister (if possible. It seems to be such a waste to have so much back history on him and then have him dead), Merill's adorable, (but please no more Eluvian talk, I hated that quest, it made me have to avoid her) Nathanial, Finn, Fenryel (sp?), Dog (I really want a dog), Harding, Varric, Cassandra, Sera and Cole.

I could see Cole coming back.
Dorian could make sense. I don't believe he can be dead.
Beyond that too many characters can either be dead or in important positions meaning their adventuring days are over.

I'd like Anders to be back, but too many Hawkes murdered the true hero of Kirkwall.

I'd like to see Dorian and Harding back - Dorian as an advisor or important NPC, and Harding as a companion. An appearance from the Stenishok would also be neat.

 

I'd also love an optional cameo from Fenris - in universes where he's alive and free we could get a side quest similar to the ones involving Zevran and Nathaniel in DA2, and they could really twist the knife by showing him as Danarius' mindless slave in world states were he was given back to his former master. Obviously in world states where he's dead he should stay that way. Wouldn't mind seeing optional Shale and Merrill, either, if there are good places in the story for them.

I would like to see Merrill, Fenris, Cole, Dorian... Well actually I'd love to see everyone lol. Also I might sound silly but I have to say that having the opinion of Merrill about Solas' plan would be interesting to me.. She has a lot of knowledge about Fen'Harel, so I would be curious to know what she thinks of the situation.

I'm done with cameos and recurring characters. It makes the world seem ten miles long and populated with 150 people instead of a massive continent the size of Europe or bigger filled with millions of people.

Alistair mentioned as king or Warden Ally in Warden related quests with Nathaniel, Sigrun (Carver, Oghren or Stroud optional) as his companions;

Dorian and Maevaris as advisers or playable characters in certain scenes and quests (Magisterium related).

Fenris as a agent and companion.

Zevran as an Ally in assassination quests of enemies of inquisition and Dorians new political party.

Harding and Charter as companions as we didn't get enough of them frankly in DAI.

Sera as an Ally who sends Red Jenny agents for specialised quests and a cameo would also be good. 

Sutherland and crew as occasional agents.

Some mention of Living HoF, a cameo would be Awesome.

Honorable mentions of past companions from DAO, DAA, DA2 and DAI.

And we have to see if not duel Stenishok.

Where is Shale, is she still a Golem and a possible agent/companion if a quest to find her is added?.

As few as possible tbh. The annoying thing about having a plethora of past companions and fan favourite characters show up in every new game has an annoying habit of making the world seem incredibly small.

 

If it makes sense for someone to be there (I'm guessing Dorian and Solas are a lock at this point) then by all means include them. But having a character make a five minute cameo solely for a bit of fanservice is getting old. Plus it's starting to suffer from Forrest Gump syndrome, where groups of people seem to be in the right place at the right time (or wrong, depending on how you look at it) throughout all the major events of the age.

I know what you mean! Isn't he the cutest? OMG, I've done quite a few playthroughs and at first I just thought he was kinda cute and funny. Then I began to look forward to claiming Griffon Wing Keep just to hear him talk, now I've got this entire romance plot going through my head for him that includes Cullen's youngest sister. out in South Reach. I kinda feel sorry for the poor guy too, he really get's put through the ringer.
