I find it hard to believe that if humanity is trying to find a new home they would only send one pathfinder to find a planet suitable for humans. IMO if there was a group of 100 humans, I would send out 3 pathfinders to find a home for humanity. If there is a group of 1,000 humans, I would send 30 pathfinders.

Also, from what we know, the protag is gonna be referred to as "pathfinder" but we don't know if it will be "the pathfinder" or "a pathfinder"

What do you guys think, A pathfinder or THE pathfinder?

We will probably be a pathfinder but we will probably stumble across something that puts us in the center of the storm.  Probably some remnant tech or something.

Our protagonist is called Pathfinder?

I suppose that's better than 4th edition.

Since there are multiple arks, I'd guess "A pathfinder." I would imagine each ark would need its own exploration vehicle, if not more than one. I'd be surprised if the N7 guy from the trailer wasn't a pathfinder as well.

Felt like they were affixing "Pathfinder" in the same way as "Shepherd" got affixed to Shepard. Just imho though. There might be competitors, but in the end we're "The One".

What exactly is a pathfinder? I wasn't aware whether it was vehicle, person or organisation had been confirmed?

Obviously, there will be more than one person on the task. The fact that we are leading a team proves that. The upcoming "Andromeda Initiative" novel, previously entitled "Pathfinder Initiative", and it's N7 cover model, also imply a group effort.

To suggest that a single person would be tasked with scouting an entire star cluster in hopes of "finding a new home for humanity" borders on lunacy.

Yeah, I'd think our protagonist would be one of several as well. It would be wise to give multiple people the task to "scout around" for suitable settlement planets to be as efficient as possible.

I'm sure there are plenty of pathfinders. We just happen to be one of them.

1,000 isn't even a sustainable population (unless they brought along frozen embryos to be grown in artificial wombs/incubators!)...still, I agree that we probably aren't the only one (but we might be one of very few, I guess the Arks don't have space for a lot of exploration ships as those have to be a certain size, after all they need space for shuttles, ground-vehicles (MAKO!), a laboratory, an armory, good sensors, a large FTL-Engine, good sensors, the crew (accomodations and entertainment - after all if they are away from home (the Arks) for weeks or even months then they need to keep the crews happy - and even stuff like a fitness-room etc.) etc. etc. - can't squish all that into a shuttle!)

ps: You wouldn't send out all your ships either, you need to defend your Arks, too (we don't know if they are armed, but even if they are: They shouldn't be in the middle of a fight in the first place - you might re-build them as warships after colonies have been established (to guarantee the savety of those colonies), but not before!)

I'm guessing Pathfinders are the captains of exploration ships+crews, the Tempest and her crew being ours. There'll probably be other Pathfinders and their crews scouting out Andromeda.

I'm not even sure "Pathfinder" is still in the game lexicon. If it is, it seems to have been deemphasized, as shown by the novel's title change. The "Ai" badge on the armor is likely "Andromeda Initiative", if the novel title is a clue. The old "Pathfinder" emblem might've been in its place, otherwise.

Personally, I like "Andromeda Initiative" better. As a bonus, we are less likely to have NPCs calling us "Pathfinder", as if we are stuck in a futuristic Dragon Age game.

Wasn't the old emblem ARKCON that was changed to AI? Pathfinder hasn't really been mentioned in anything official, only in leaks.

Even if we are called a Pathfinder, NPCs are probably going to refer to us as Ryder most of the time anyway.

edit: nevermind, the ARKCON logo says "Pathfinder Inititiative" on it. Regardless, Pathfinder may still be a thing even if ARKCON isn't

The ARKCON emblem says "Pathfinder Initiative" across the top. [I see you noticed. ;)] I am speculating that it's been replaced by the cleaner "Ai" branding. The new developer t-shirt supports my speculation, as well.

Edit: For clarity's sake, I'll outline my logic.

*Early in development, we see those "Pathfinder Initiative" ARKCON t-shirts.

*We learn there's a novel in development with the working title "Pathfinder Initiative".

* We see the new trailer. Instead of "PI/ARKCON" badges, we see "Ai" badges.

* Devs are seen wearing "Ai" shirts

* We learn that the "Pathfinder Initiative" novel is now "Andromeda Initiative"

Not a big issue, but Pathfinder Initiative sounds so much better.

It rolls off the tongue better, but I like the "Ai" logo better. Plus, I mildly feared getting the "Greetings, Pathfinder" Dragon Age-style treatment. Overall, I'm content with the change.

Honestly I am tired of being 'The ....'. The Warden, The Inquisitor, The Shepard/Spectre. I'd rather be a Pathfinder, and just end up being the best at it. I'd also love if there were some Star Trek style respond to other Pathfinder team's distress signal quests.

Would be fun.

It sounds like a job role that basically involves exploration so I highly doubt there would be only one given we are entering a completely unexplored area of space. It simply wouldn't make sense.

Sounds logical, but this is a Bioware game. THE Pathfinder is more likely...

It's a Bioware game so we are going to be the special snowflake in one way or another but I hope that we're a Pathfinder rather than The Pathfinder.

And I really hope it's a multi race operation not a human one like the Alliance, I think it might be judging from the quick shot of the Tempest bridge but they could be people Ryder picks up along the way.

Maybe, but it sounds like the name didn't really convey the idea of the organization.

I believe Bio has moved on from the original Pathfinder role.

Look at the insignia of the white suited female in that combat clip. It says AI = Alliance Initiative? Nowhere, have I seen the Pathfinder Patch in the Behind the Scenes video or in the 1st video for that matter.

The N7 guy? He may be part of a Forward Scout Task Force.  The ARKs, once they arrive in the Helius cluster, are basically surrounded by a volume of space with no data. They are in effect, surrounded by the equivalent of a Fog of War. Scouting missions are a priority to expand the ARKs "line of site".  The FSTF responsibility is to provided that much needed information about the immediate surroundings, such as planets, resources, aliens, threats... etc.

The protag is the protag and nothing else.
