Are you in favour, or against, allowing the modding community a (relatively) free hand at ME:A?

They're gonna do it, anyway.

And when they do... -giggles and rubs hands together- I'll be there.

I would love to see what people like Annomander and Mgamerz can do to Andromeda. Hopefully we'll be able to adjust basic functions like framerate caps and FOV without modding game files, though.

You are asking the wrong people on the wrong forum. Frostbite tools are what would enable that (just like Unreal Engine tools did in the first Mass Effect series).

It is not about ME:A being modifiable it is EA allowing modding on Frostbite. Ask EA. Tweet at Johan/Dice (be nice) and see if he will answer questions about the possibility and even then it might not be his call.

I think it would be great if there were modding tools to build maps and missions. I really think the life span of things like multiplayer could be extended and enhanced by it.

Depends on the game really and whether I feel I need to with DAI because of the bad hairstyles I felt I needed to there. If however Bioware has done a better job with options and things then hopefullyI won't need to with MEA. I do quite like the hairstyle the girl had in the trailer as it was a better ponytail style than we got for DAI so I'm hopeful that Bioware have learnt their lesson. If not we'll have to just rely on modders again and hope that at least it's no harder to alter than DAI. I think given it's the same engine powering it it shouldn't be too hard but given I've had more success getting mods to work on DA  than I have with ME I'd rather wait and see. I'm not counting anything yet.

Always in favor, but modding is almost dead at this point.

The only RPG with much hope for modding on the horizon is Kingdom Come Deliverance.

There are some mods in DAI that I won't play without anymore ie. No wait for war table missions. Also DAO and ME3 have some mods that make them more playable even after all these years. So yes for the modding!

They should give the modding community some level of freedom with modding. If they do it smartly, it won't affect DLCs, and if it does, they'll just have to be more creative.

I would like to have an official modding support but I doubt that this is going to happen for MEA. Let's just hope that they make some decent not-varying-degrees-of-short/bald hairstyles this time.

I'm in no way a modder, but am 100% for it.  Why EA is so opposed to it I will never understand.  Bethesda repeatedly releases broken games with lackluster gameplay and dull story content, yet outsells Bioware 3 to 4x.  This is due to the mod-friendly nature...or at least it contributes significantly to sales.

Any loss of revenue from weapon and armor packs is more than made up for in doubling sales (or more).

I think there main concern is people creating mods that will unbalance or break multi player.  Frostbite powers some of there most popular online games now and releasing mod tools for one game that uses Frostbite can end up causing a ripple effect into all of there games and destroy the online community if people stop playing due to too many cheaters.

I know there are some cheats available but once a mod kit is released it would be easy for someone to begin reverse engineering the kit to work on different games since they all use the same engine.

I'm guessing you didn't play ME3MP much then...

Ravagers are much more scary when they drop 30-40 Swarmers at a go!

Modding has already begun on the Frostbite engine, so I am sure that there will be modding.  Sometimes you have to wait until the game is older to get mods so that the owner/developer moves on to the next thing.  And modding is not dead, just go to Nexus and see for yourself!

I saw threads asking for modding at least 3 times. I myself opened a thread about it. But anyways, is that time again to discuss it.

Honestly and being realistic, I don't think it'll happen. And if it does it will probably be in a small degree like previous titles.

I don't know who has a say on this. Is it Bio or EA? is it DICE because it their engine? One would think EA decides on this since they own DICE's soul for eternity hence their engine, their games and their lives. But I dunno.

I remember this mod for BF3 that balanced the colors a bit better. Less blue, more balance; but they took it down because modding in any aspect was a no-no. Just a color balance mod.

I recall these conversations over DAI - I thought Frostbite was fairly 'closed' to this...?

(particularly with multiplayer in mind)

It is.  The Multi player is the main reason since they don't want the MP ruined by people who use mods or hack the game for an advantage.

I'm 100% in favour of modding 100% of the time.

If you don't want people to ruin your experience in MP, the only surefire protection from that is not to play MP.

Tbh, the Mass Effect world started as a story based game, people modded it with mostly textures, fps improvements, graphics, etc, wasn't much noise about it, the Build in Console enabling aspect allowed for "cheating", the Multiplayer aspect changed that for modders, making it harder to alter any graphics or textures via modding, as long as there is a MP involved, modding is probably not going to be allowed unless that part of the game is separate.

It wouldn't be worth it, not many people modded the past games.

Per Nexus:

DAO 2304 files, 29.11 million unique downloads.

DAI 1133 files, 3.86 million dls.

DA2 1038 files, 8.8 million dls.

For comparison Skyrim, 47751 files, 933.18 million dls.

If the mod is small enough, you don´t need to register however, so unique dls is not equivalent to users. Also the # of files also includes savegames. Not sure if images count to the # aswell.

The real question here is though, is the lack of interest in modding related to the quality of the game, the engine, neither, both? I have 0 interest in modding DAI, despite I actually would want to. Reason: I have to download a gazillion tools, which may or may not break the game and even then most of the times, the mod in particular is only a replacer. Neither reason appeals to me. How many more think like I do? Also, DAO and DA2 didn´t need mods to be fully enjoyable for me, unlike Skyrim for example. Right from the get go, I wanted a UI mod. I wanted a mod, which allowed me to level slower. I wanted a mod that fixes bugs Bethesda didn´t. I wanted more spells, weapons, armor. I wanted more NPCs, especially on the roads. I could go on. When I stopped playing it, I was at 140 mods, including replacers. With FO4 I´m already sitting at 40. Most of those mods are settlement related.

The best mod for ME3 was the mod that fixed the buggy ending.

Before the mod the ending was bugged, but some awesome group, on their free time, free or charge, fixed it!

yeah that's kind of why I waited till after Trespasser was released before starting to really play with mods for DAI. Because I knwe wit hthat being the last of the DLC's for the game it was unlikely they'll be touching it again with the exception of 1 or 2 small patches to fix issues introduced with Trespasser. But they have effectively stopped work now on DAI so now I can play with mods on singleplayer til l my hearts content. I'll like;ly do the same with MEA just play with what the game has in it until everything is complete and released before I start downloading and installing mods for it. But again that's assuming I do feel the need to with MEA

I'm also always in favor of mods for games.  I may not use them, but I think they are a great way to expand the game with everything from new hair, armor, looks and even additional stories.

And, Modders, wonderful talented people, gave me back ME3.  :)     Modders also added extra jobs and companions in Fall Out games and Skyrim.  I am a big fan of this amazing group of people.
