LOL! I will not jump down your throat but I will say the boob armor irritated me to no end and I was very happy to see it gradually diminish throughout the trilogy. I mean honestly if I'm a soldier the last thing I want is armor outlining my breasts... sorry, that's just not what I'm on the battlefield for.

I thought it did the opposite, hence my problem. The boob plating looked much more prominent in ME2 and 3 than 1, to me.

Exactly.

LOL. It's nothing but gray boxes, hidey crates, and color-coded mercs, tho.

Maybe so! Maybe I just noticed it more in ME1 since I had to dress my female squad mates.

Looking back at the trilogy, ME2 was the odd one out, with less serious attitude, and a change in tone when it comes to story. Everything seemed cheesy, not in a bad way, but just a bit over the top. Which got me thinking; it came after the success of ME1, and I had to wonder, is the tone and style of ME2 the original idea for ME? Is it what designers always wanted to make of the series, or is it an attempt to "casualise" the franchise, which was later rectified? And do you think MEA will have the serious tone of ME1 and 3, or be a bit over the top like ME2?

It was Mac Walters telling all the fans that he became the lead writer. That's how it looks anyway. And what is more sad, is that quite a lot of people enjoyed this campy action-schlock. Granted, not entire ME2 was like that. There were some good serious issues here and there but they were rare and it wasn't enough to make up for the main plot.

I hope andromeda feels as epic and awe inspiring as me1 that game made me feel excited to explore everything, what a game it was.

Huh? ME1 is also ridiculously cheesy - we've got the constant talk of Shepard being the ubermensch (I mean, it's not quite the Jesus-level of ME2, but it's not exactly subtle), all of the various "Big Damn Heroes" moments, the whole dialogue between Shepard and Sovereign, stuff like the 5th fleet showing up to dramatic music, etc. etc.

I thought ME2 was the darker of the two games.

If MEA can capture the magic of ME1, blend it with the gameplay of ME3, and elicit the overall satisfaction of ME2, that'd be a big win for me.

I hope no thermal clips in Andromeda.

I hope no thermal clips though.

I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I actually prefer the thermal clip system.  That said if both types of gun systems are in the game, I'm taking the one that doesn't require me to pilfer the dead for reloads.

The animation of the clip change was seen, I think, in the last trailer, when we see the PC shooting with his pistol at not!Yahg,

ME 2 hit the nail on the head when it came to atmosphere and characters. The universe was so beautiful, Illium is still by far my favorite. I would love if Andromeda followed suit.

I'd like if they learnt from the previous games and took the best parts of all three games, and wrapped them in a good open world system.

It might be too much to ask though.

In my opinion, that's one of the best things about 2 and why it comes out on top for me. Despite the lacklustre main story, I like how it didn't take itself too seriously a lot of the time. I hope they manage to mix that feeling of 2 with the exploration themes of 1.

What's funny about Illium is that, just like ME3's opening sequence that folks whined about, it has 8-bit sprites everywhere.

ME1:

+ Wide variation of weapons and w. mods

+ Story

+ Rachni race

+ Interesting villains

- Graphics

- Companion AI

- Environment

- Totally senseless DLC

ME2

+ Story

+ Companions

+ Spaceship mods

+ Details

+ Graphic

+ Jokes

+ Illusive man / stunning presentation of story elements (dying sun)

+ Soundtrack

- "Probe 1000 planets, please"

- "Have you heard of this nonsense side mission?"

- DLC that you needed to romance Liara

I just hope they will present a decent story and atmosphere. The locations and the music will play a huge role. I am very sceptical that they will achieve something good with the music this time. The trailer hasn't really persuaded me in concern of this. It sounded more like a Wild West movie than an amazing exploration of the stars.

Huh?

Ever heard of Drew Karpyshyn?

https://en.m.wikiped.../Drew_Karpyshyn

Drew lead on 2, he then left, Mac lead on 3 (good move on Drew's part, or the ME3 endings fiasco would be part of his resume)

Mac now somehow development director for Andromeda.

Almost certainly, since his dark energy ending idea was worse than ME3's shipped ending.

He didn't want any part of ending the series, and I can't say I blame him.

He was lead at the start of ME2 development, but as far as I recall he left during development and Walter became the lead. They both worked as lead writer in ME2.

The soul of Mass Effect's companions were created with Mass Effect 2. The soul of Mass Effect's story was killed by Mass Effect 2.

That I disagree with. That game got me into mass effect. You can have your opinion but I will forever defend that game.

LOL. It's nothing but gray boxes, hidey crates, and color-coded mercs, tho.

It's just a convinient choice for a picture. But more importantly, it's not representative of what Mass Effect 2 look.

The ME1 picture that I posted is indeed exceptional, but it does say something about ME1: how empty it all is. Look at Noveria, for example. There is very little detail, very little work to make it stand out, to make it feel like a real place. It's just a huge box with some stairs and some elevators. Same for many other places.

ME2 lost some of the scope of ME1, but it gave Mass Effect a soul in return.

Maybe, better than places, guns show how Mass Effect art style greatly evolved during the trilogy.

ME1 is the worst in that aspect. You have two models for each gun and then the only difference is colors. Sure you have different manufactureres and all. But that is only talked about. And the last effective way to create identity for a universe in a game is to talk about it.

ME2 moved in the right direction, making each gun look and behave in a unique way. All DLCs said and done, the guns themselves were already painting a much richer Mass Effect universe.

And by the time ME3 was done we had this:
g]BioWare-Reveals-Weapon-Creation-Process-

And this. This is a soul.

ME1 has one really iconic zone IMO - the presidium. And the presidium is based on a very iconic science fiction artist - charitably we can say inspired the look of ME1. That's where the style of towers they use comes from too - and the cars.

I didn't like either place. The problem with Noveria for me is that I did all the side quests first, and Noveria is what they recycle everywhere. I liked Feros, but it was too claustrophobic generally.

Ilos I didn't care for at all, though. It was just too ... boxy. I didn't get that feeling of sheer frustration and the dead ruins of a once great civilization.
