Things like this has always bothered me in games too. I know it's just a game, it's not real and it's just done for the sake of sexy.

It's not going to serve you very well anyway when your sexy corpse lies there with arrows piercing your lungs and a sword stuck in your guts...

It annoys me a bit for some reason.

Quite often the guys gets to walk around proper armour (unless it is overly bulky) while he women just have enough (barely) to cover the naughty bits.

Why does the guys run around in bulky armour in these cases when wearing no armour seem to work just as well in those cases?

B... but... WHAT ABOUT THE AGILITY?!

I always cringe when my Dalish Elf gets arrows through her BARE BELLY in that cheerleader outfit at the beginning of DAO before I put her into something more reasonable. Like, I can see that the armour rating works as intended and everything, but that's so awkward to watch. This makes me cringe as well...

It's like these characters don't even belong to the same game.

As for Thane, how does he breathe with that thing? It looks like he has a plastic bag tightly wrapped around his head... or something for a BDSM session.

And the boob window, of course.

At least Thane is trying to balance out the other boob windows in the game when it comes to gender. All the other guys in the game are doing you women a disservice.  ;)

They all look like they come from different game universes though. Shepard in full body armour while everyone else are casually strolling around in clothing or nothing at all in the case of Jack.

It makes you wonder if armour is useful at all when you get this kind of mixing in outfits.

Yeah, it can't be said enough that, despite the fact it doesn't fit the situations the characters often find themselves in, I do appreciate what they were trying to do with Thane. It means they recognised that there was something missing and added it to the best of their ability. Whether it worked out perfectly or not, that's another thing, but it was a solid attempt and I dare say it had pretty decent results. Plus, it brought a really interesting alien race, as well. (I love the lore.)

Jacob isn't so bad himself when we talk appearance. I think that as far as looks go, he's pretty gorgeous. The outfit (My friend calls him a "dolphin trainer" for it.  :D ) was a decent attempt to balance out Miranda, as stupid as it is. (He also lacks the awkward camera treatment.) His personality is... another matter entirely. I don't appreciate the standoffish attitude that makes me feel like Shepard's bothering him, like he wants her to leave him alone (which caused me to never even consider to come anywhere near him besides trying to be friends), I don't appreciate she has to persuade him to consider something might be between them, and I definitely don't appreciate the ME3 treatment he and most importantly Shepard got. Plus, his romance is super corny in a way that's not endearing any more. That comes from somebody who romances Kaidan, the corn king.  But the sit ups? Those were fine.

Jacob the the personality of a Lego brick in my opinion. Never brought him anywhere for that reason.

Still feel that Kaidan improves as a character when you romance him. At first I just thought "Another Carth" since he is voiced by Raphael Sbarge.

But after having had to romance him twice I felt that he grew a little bit on me. There were more personality there that I hadn't noticed otherwise.

I did try to give Jacob a chance. I feel fairly neutral towards him overall. He's one of those characters I tend to forget they exist because he has so little to say. I think he had a decent start at the Lazarus Station, but then it quickly went downhill. I'm not going through that creepy, awkward romance just to get content from him, either. I mostly like the part when he gets understandably angry during his loyalty mission because, yes, show me something, anything. There was also this small moment on Korlus when Shepard scares off the injured merc when he goes, "Was that really necessary? " and I thought, "Hey, so you have some backbone after all!" Jacob is a mess, though.

I kind of get a good laugh out of his ME3 entrée, because he finally gets shot through that stupid outfit. (Not that I want him to die or anything, but the outfit finally caught up to him.)

As for Kaidan, I really like his development throughout the games. I haven't played the SW games yet, so I came to this character with no expectations. What I liked about him immediately, I guess, is that he's so friendly right from the start and has his random sassy moments, then he starts rambling about books and about doing good and making awkward compliments and I thought, "Hell, why not?" and I didn't regret. I enjoy what they did with him throughout the franchise and the fact that he stepped out of Shepard's shadow, thought for himself (and he generally thinks and reflects a lot) and even opposed her at various occasions, despite having feelings for her. I think he grew into a fairly complex character with time and the romance is such a rollercoaster (yet eventually ends on a sweet note), and that's what got me about it. But, well, that's just my experience anyway. I'm yet to play it with him unromanced since I haven't experimented nearly enough with these games yet. I'll see if his character holds well without his romance arc. Either way, that's a male character I can definitely appreciate. (I love the fact somebody picked up on all those comments about his ass and made it a thing in the game. I don't even think the scene was that sexy, but it was cute and pretty funny. That's how you do fanservice.)

Shepard smiling at Kaidan's ass in ME3 had me laughing.

I think the encounter with him in ME2 and early ME3 goes a bit over the top with the reactions though. Sure, it must have been a shock, but Kaidan behaves like you burned down a house full of puppies.

Spoiler

I think Jacob gets off lightly. Especially if he was romanced and it turns out that he has been cheating on Shepard.

Miranda handles that better than Jacob since she gets shot at the same place during the Suicide Mission and just shrugs it off.  :P

As for Thane to not derail the topic too much:

Mmmm, don't have much to say about really. I prefer women over men... so now I'm wondering what I'm doing in this thread in the first place.

Anyway, I've just realised that the Alternate Appearance Pack covers Thane's cleavage:

Interesting.

I kind of wish they dropped the shades for both him and Jack, though. In such a dialogue heavy game, I'd really prefer to see their eyes.

Unromanced Kaidan isn't fun. I really didn't like his formality in the the first playthrough and as a male Shep. I get how people don't like him that much, calling out on his lack of personality since he like to keep himself and generally neutral and seemingly disinterest... except around FemShep who let him have his way with her. I like how their romance doesn't require the main character to force themselves on the person and make them open up. It was really the other way around since it was Shepard who was guarded and who was often forced to choose between the one she loves and her duty. Their romance merely enhance this side of her who was afraid to love and I get to know her better as a person in the trilogy via Kaidanmance than any other LIs.

Thane shared a lot of Carth's arc. Dead wife, rebellious son. I wouldn't mind it much if Thane actually let his wife go and if Shepard was more subtle about flirting with him. There's some points in the conversation that Thane found traits he saw in his wife in FemShep. Kinda make me feel super-uncomfortable romancing him but I love their break up line where she said she's not going to replace his wife for him. I ship Thane and Irikah btw. I love the detail on his character, but I think his son is hotter. I have a soft spot for turquoise...

Normally I like tragic romance. Did that in DAO with Alistair (I'm so evil), and DA2 with Anders (kill him myself.. the bastard). But I feel it was overdone with Thane.. its a trap from a mile away...

The Appearance Packs carry some awesome changes. They give Miranda armour! They give Jack clothes! (I love the outfit.) They fix Garrus' armour so he doesn't have a hole any more! (Friends don't let other friends wear damaged stuff.)

It's shameful that wasn't part of the original content, though. Well, at least those DLCs are cheap.

Urgh I know, why Garrus doesn't have a new, un-blown up piece of armour around is plain silly.   I'm sure Cerberus would've got him some.

You'd think it would have been fixed with the secondary look after his loyalty mission at least.

But even that one was damaged for some reason... clearly the Cerberus armourers must have thought that this is how turian armour looks like.

I also always wondered how Samara and Miranda can run around in heels. Do they have constant biotic mass effect fields supporting their entire spine, feet, everything? Ridiculous.

It's probably incorporated into the armor, though it's curious that asari developed that variety of fashion at all.

Yeah, this game punishes ladies for having sex with aliens, lol.

It didn't punish us, luckily.

Also, I'm pretty sure Samara is protected primarily by biotic barriers. And with weapons of the type in Mass Effect, it's not significantly less protective than, say, Mordin's labcoat or Jacob's remarkably tight black number.

So she maintains her biotic barriers 100% of time? And that helps against radiation and other things one might encounter in space? I don't know. That sounds like too much unnecessary work. Of course, during combat, I'd imagine she'd have her barriers up. I'd also think she'd want something if those barriers fail, just like characters that only have kinetic barriers would want a layer of armour just in case. (We're talking life and death situations after all.) I just think the outfits in general weren't very fit for combat or space exploration. The breathers don't protect their eyes or the rest of their heads, either. On a planet with green toxic mist, or lava, ash and smoke, or radiation from a dying sun, or similar that's a little masochistic. ME2 was more about being cool and unique than about being practical, which is rather surprising after ME1 that often had environments so harsh that you had to limit your stay out of the Mako despite wearing fully covering space suits. I dislike Jacob's catsuit, as well. (I think it looks really stupid, too.)

Too few characters in the game have anything resembling NBC protection for me to care about Samara in particular (I think that only Shepard, Garrus and Tali even have fully sealed armor). Though perhaps we're in agreement there.
