The problem I have with every DA city (Denerim, Kirkwall and Val Royeaux) was that they are too small and not open world. I really liked Baldur's Gate because it was so large and had some much exploration. I'm hoping that cities in the next game can be vast, full of wonders (ex. If the Chantry is headquartered in Val Royeaux where's the massive Vatican?), lots of people, city life (ex. Street performers, merchants that heckle you) and have many different areas to explore (ex. a large sewer system like BG). An Assassins Creed type open world city would be perfect.
Can we get better cities in the next DA game?

Agreed on bigger cities, but I'd really like to avoid sewers, thanks.

Also sewers that look like sewers. Wtf Darktown? I'd rather they be a less modern version of the explorable sewers in VtMB.

I'd be happy even if we had just a decent-sized, fleshed-out district or two in a major city (like Minrathous) and a smaller town elsewhere (but larger than Redcliffe). It'd be interesting to contrast city life vs rural life in Tevinter. They've talked about employing crowd technology in MEA (from PGA Tour, I think) and I think that will help as well in the next DA game.
If I had one other wish, it'd be that we would finally get to see Arlathan (or what's left of it).

I hope that we get an DAI-y DA2.
As in, more city life, focus on capital of Tevinter, but still have us go on several adventures throughout northern Thedas.
-Minrathous
-Anderfels Warden time
-Nevarra stuff time? (least likely but man I'd take it in a big DLC)
-Solas??
-Seheron?
-Arlathan?
-Kal Sharok?
Tevinter land and Elf advancement and bigger Dwarf role and Qunari struggles. DA4.
But the city place itself should be big. Like at least one main quest involving it, it having our 'Skyhold' (I'd prefer a large manor), all or almost all the shops, a large fraction of the sidequests, and being our travel hub (mirrors again?).
More streamlined and less open levels, but obviously still using DAI's engine and much of its structure. More and better ways to show NPC crowds and bigger battles. Exploring is less important than discovery (these can be two different things).

We better since it'll probably be in Tevinter which means we'll be spending time in Minrathous which is, without a doubt the city I've been most looking forward to seeing.

Yes plz. We had already missed Val Royeaux and don't want to miss Minrathous!!!

yes, we definitely need more and larger cities. Val Royeaux was really disappointing. I wish they had spent more time on that than all of the wilderness zones.

I think the next DA game would have more cities if it was open world. You would need cities, or at least villages and towns as travel points and as places for resupply in an open world environment. I'm hoping for one very large city, 6 Skyrim sized cities (Size of Windhelm, Whiterun, Solitude etc.) and at least a dozen villages or towns in an open world setting.

Hoping to be blown away by Minrathous as I was blown away by Novigrad and Beauclair in the B&W Expansion.
If that means a few less wilderness areas, so be it.
Probably don't need 3 deserts for example.

Yes. Bioware please don't pull the usual 180 and react to fans complaining about DAI being wilderness areas so all of DA4 is in Minrathous. I would like a balance between urban and wilderness. Let's have some Tevinter cities and some well detailed wilderness zones. It's not an either/or situation.

I think they learned the lesson from DA2, which is basically set in one city. There will be a balance, but I'm hoping they do listen to our advice about cities.

BioWare really needs to get on its game if it's going to present Minrathous to us.
I wouldn't mind 2.5-D or even high resolution 2-D backgrounds that show the distant buildings, bridges, streets, and gardens. Just as long as they look nice and they look the same when I actually go to those locations, like when it loads a new area, and I can look back at where I was and that looks the same.

I don't want DA4 to take place entirely in Minrathous either. I'm sure writers have a few wilderness areas and ancient ruins they'd like the game to show as well which would also be fun to explore.Yes. I'd like some special actions that are suited for a large city. Bioware can copy from RPGs and game genres. For example, allowing jumping from one roof to another and climbing the sides of buildings would be interesting. The ability to pickpocket anybody in a city and get caught by guards Skyrim style would also be fun. Elaborate assassination efforts would also be great.

I'm really, really hoping we visit a big city. Preferably along with at least one small town and several villages. Somewhere with lots of ambient events (like a speech, a judgement, performers, hawkers etc), lots of NPCs going about their daily business (with ambient dialogue), and the all important background music. We should be able to enter some buildings (shops, at the very least and a Chantry). It would be even better if the city's atmosphere changes depending on what part you're in and what time of day it is. Of course, it should contain lots of story events and sidequests.
Hmm, this is really making me want a DA2 remake with a re-imagined Kirkwall.

I'd be fine with just one large city (probably Minrathous). I think developing only on current gen will probably help enormously.

I already know the DA Team can make a visually stunning city-scape judging by the wilderness they had in DAI. But it must be "alive". People, sounds, sights. Reactivity. Reaction. Reactivity. If it's raining (because you have incorporated a dynamic weather system now), then I want to see at least some npc's scurrying to get out of the rain.
Ambient dialogue. More than the same three lines, "No they don't...See, I told you"..and some guy laughing, "Hahaha!" I'll even go one more, ambient dialogue that reflects some in game events and/or decisions, or actions we have taken. Alot more ambient dialogue from those npc's.; and more...activity for these npc's. They should not just stand around clumped together looking like they're about to do a recital.
Meandering streets, more narrow in design to give a better illusion of a larger more detailed city. As opposed to offering everything up front and it appearing big and empty-ish. Different areas that really look and feel different. If it's a shady, or broken down part of town/village, bring that feeling home to me. Details like dirt, or trash, but make it look like a broken down part of town. Don't rely on some npc telling me how abysmal it is, I want to see and experience that for myself.
If it's dangerous, throw in some shady npc leaning up against a wall somewhere...watching you. always watching. Maybe he has a buddy with him that he occasionally whispers to..while watching you. They don't have to do anything else. That right there is enough to make one wonder. Although, you may have to capture it in a small and quick"just entering the area" type cinematic, or people might miss it.
I loved what BW did with the shops in Trespasser. The whole area, really. It just felt so organic and cohesive. I loved that area. The shops themselves--I loved that you could go in and go to a specific item/shelf actually, for minerals; cloth; herbs. It felt so much better. Please keep doing that. The shopkeepers could offer a bit more personality, though.
Idk if pathfinding for a party of four is a problem in more dense settings? If so, I loathe to say this, but when our ship pulls into port...oh, wait...
, I mean when we get to the city, the party could go their separate ways for a bit. That breaks my banter loving heart! Just so you know. And if there are some quests in the city, we could gather our companions up again to do the city quests.
I want this, BW. Blow my mind. I know you guys can Do Eet! I know you can. Especially if EA are not being cheapskates with you. I somehow imagine them like that one Elder that lived through a Great Depression giving you a quarter talking about, "Don't spend it all in one place." Yeah, okay.
