Actually, that's not quite as revolting a thought. At least children are almost, and can eventually become, actual people.

I do have to wonder with some people equating synthetic LI to inanimate objects though.

Because "synthetics" are by definition inanimate objects.

Owning a vibrator is fine, even encouragable. It's simply a useful tool like any other. Treating it like it's people is a mark of insanity. Likewise for robots.

I Don't think a fully "self aware" Synthetic would be on the ARK(s) at that time in the ME Galaxy, this was supposed to take place somewhere before ending of ME3 or even before ME3 starts, EDI was still an infant at the time, only one of her type is noted in the series and No one else appears to be researching or developing along those lines except for Cerberus that we see.

 

There were 4 corporations in 2183ce allowed to research AI but only Synthetic Insights, Ltd. is mentioned but that's all you hear, so I don't believe true AI's were around when ME:A starts (before launching to Andromeda), unless there is some happening to a computer in some office that gets zapped by some weird science (ut oh a plot idea!).

 

I don't see it happening and tbh I really don't want a plot rehash.
