Right. I think the best argument against real time is that it makes completion random. A dev sets 20 hours with, presumably, some expectation of a particular experience, but lots of players won't have the one he's expecting.

The thing is I don't have an issue with real time per se - just the length. 20 hours gets a little absurd.

Jesus Christ - I thought the Winchester brothers had finally exorcised this particular ghost at some point during this past season of Supernatural. Well, the boys are on summer break, so maybe they're available to help out. I'll try to phone them!

*beep beep boop*

ME: Sam? Dean? I know you're KIND of just off that whole thing with God and Amara, but the forums are being haunted by this very persistent ghost name Dutch's Ghost. He writes the WORST threads in the universe - they're worse than that stuff that Chuck turns out! The horror, the suffering!

DEAN: Yeah, well, ex-nay on the Chuck thing. He can get touchy about his writing. Anyway, Sam is in...

ME: ...trouble again? Some chick and the Men of Letters? What? Wow, you guys can't catch a break. Better hit Chuck up about that, hah! Wait, is he even still writing those Supernatural novels?

DEAN: Nope - he's on hiatus too right now, uh, sort of. Anyway, it's a really long story, but I can't help you out right now. Call back in a few months, and if I pull Sam's *** out of the fire for the hundredth millionth time again, we'll see, all right, sweetie? Sounds like it'll be a cakewalk compared to the rest of my year.

ME: Oh - okay then, Dean. Good luck with Sam, and I'll check back later!

*ends call*

Well, I tried at least!

The length of a game means little in determining how good it is.

BG2: 150 hours

Portal: 5 hours

Both are excellent games.

Portal is a "Finish and Forget" game that you only really need to play once to experience 100% of the content, whereas an RPG like BG2's branching narrative means multiple playthroughs are necessary to experience everything the developers have crafted.

Both are excellent games, indeed, but not really comparable.

If this game ends up "150 hours" here is how the breakdown of time will go:

30 hours main plot, companion dialogue, optional romance stuff.

10 hours side missions with core gameplay.

30 hours collecting quarian-root and potassium.

80 hours driving the Mako in between places.

In the end all that matters is quality. If Andromeda is a 150 hours full of boring gameplay, then the OP may have a point.

The sad part is I can see this happening.

I believe in ME:A that "real time" missions by AI Agents is reduced to about 20 minutes.

Will it? Will it really?

Or will it be a ten hour game with 140+ hours of filler like DAI.

Needless to say I am immensely skeptical.
