What is A1 ?

Don't know yet, could be anything really (A**-pulled in bullet s**t-storm Personnel) except for Special Forces Personnel which is N, according to wikia:

'The Alliance Military Vocational Code system classifies the career path of all serving personnel. The MVC consists of one letter and one number. A soldier's MVC indicates proficiency, not rank. The letter notes career path; the number indicates level of experience, as indicated by service record, technical scores, and commendations. All 26 letters are used, and numbers run from 1 to 7. N is the letter code for Special Forces personnel.'

Beside the fact that quality screen shots clearly show an "Ai", we now have more info with which to work. The "Ai" nearly certainly means "Andromeda Initiative", given the disappearance of the Pathfinder/ARKCON logo; it's replacement on developers' t-shirts with "Ai"; and the renaming of the "Pathfinder Initiative" novel to "Andromeda Initiaive".

All evidence suggests that, at some point in development, the "Pathfinder Initiative" was scrapped in favor of the more thematically appropriate "Andromeda Intitiative". That's our "Ai".

Ai? I didn't catch that. I was wondering why the protagonist would have G2 on their back, and A1 on their shoulder. It didn't make much sense, unless the protagonist changed their specialty during the game. That it would in fact be Ai is as good an explanation as ever.

I'm not sure what the G2 is. Maybe it's a manufacturer's mark on the jet pack or armor? I don't think it is a vocational code. Between the shoulders doesn't seem like a likely place for a vocational code. I suspect no one other an N7s even wear their vocational codes openly, based upon established lore. I imagine most personnel have standard dog tags, and could also easily be scanned for electronic ID embedded in their hardsuits, their omnitools, or maybe even in chips within their bodies.

I don't think it is the consensus, but there has been some speculation whether that might be the case. The firing or resignation of a lead writer a few months after being hired and a former Bioware dev tweeting that Andromeda not having a major presence at E3 is not a good sign, has fueled some of it.

He wasn't fired, nor did he resign. All signs point to his contract ending, simple as that.

Is this game really not coming out until DECEMBER of 2017?  I thought it was early 2017.

Seems logical they'd use that day for a major info drop.

Seems odd that there won't be some presence at Gamescom, Pax West and GaymerX.

Might be something minimal, though I understand EA's focus will be elsewhere.

Titanfall 2 might be the reason for keeping the head down so as not to confuse the two games.

Not so sure of that actually. It makes a ton of sense to wait with the big guns until after Titanfall 2 and BF1 and whatnot, but N7 day is only meaningful to people who are already into the franchise. I mean yeah it makes sense to do ME related stuff on that day, but if they want a big reveal and draw in more people that aren't already attached to the franchise, it would be better to do that at some event or something.

Anyway we'll see.

Why would you want a link to an article that displays misinformation?
