A Quality Of Life suggestion

Due to the increasing number of troll threads and troll posts on this forum, I would like to suggest two possible solutions
to limit the number and effectiveness of straw-man and sock puppet user accounts.

* Restrict new users from posting new threads before reaching a certain level of activity on the forum (or at least severely limit the number of threads that can be opened). Say, something like a hundred posts, or possibly more.
Special requests can be directed at mods.

* Restrict the number of threads all users can open in a day. Most users shouldn't need to open more than a single thread
per day, certainly no more than three. Special requests can be directed at mods.

People tend to abuse their anonymity on the intewebz, but most users tend to care about well established personas and
will not "taint" them with a reputation for trolling and the threat of bans. (at least to a degree)

....

As for ME:A specifically, I would also like to recommend certain quality of life improvements, such as the ability to adjust field of view,
and the ability to bind separate functions to different keys on KB+M, instead of having the same button for revive + cover + activate + etc.

So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish.

But that requires Bioware actually giving two f*cks about this forum in the first place.

Just yesterday Josz was here and said they do read the forum, they also moderate it.

The best solution: stop replying to trolls. This happens way too much. If we stop doing that, they'll soon fade to the second page.

The forum is essentially in hiatus.

It is mostly populated by a small number of over-passionate, obsessed and bitter & twisted members of our community.

In the scheme of things we are talking 1% of the numbers who will visit the forum once we are genuinely in the run up to launch.

During hiatus, moderation standards are more relaxed and aside of the really nasty stuff, general trash talk and a little gentle trolling are tolerated within reason because given that there is nothing to actually talk about, removing those threads would actually clear the forum.

Around 3-4 month's before launch you'll notice the forum lights 'switching on' more moderators will be visible, sub-forums will be created and moderation standards will tighten, returning to their 'on best behaviour' pre-launch stance.

It will be fine.

That wasn't very nice, or accurate. For me (as an example) the EAware forum is merely a time-killing habit.

I wonder, which of the above descriptions fits you the best in your opinion?

Anyway, there is no reason not to enforce a tiny little bit of order and normalcy into this forum, even if it is on a "hiatus".

Very good idea, the last week since E3 has been epically awful around here.

In fact I'm amazed those suggestions aren't part of the forum already.

As to ignoring troll threads and not answering them, I'll start doing that in the future.  Ignore them and they'll go away, right?

I have bigger concerns regarding quality of life than skipping past silly threads.

Oh, more will come on the same subjects, those things never really end... but at least they will go faster on page 2 ;)

I'll be honest, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if this place was shut down leading up to the Release of Andromeda.

It gives EAware some ability to control the feedback, so I doubt it.

Control?.......... Here?

I would say it would be easier to control on Social media.... but I will admit I don't use Social media but that does seem to be where all the developers interact with the public.

They do have some control, even if they don't use it all the time.

It's also better for them to box the "negativity" into one place instead of seeing it scattered all over the internet.

Certainly wasn't intended to be 'not-nice' merely descriptive.

I'll self-describe as 'obsessive' please, though one person's 'obsessive' is another person's 'invested' :).

And your suggestions are perfectly reasonable, by the way.

I had succeeded in staying away from BSN for over a year, but E3 brought me back, so I guess I'm sufficiently obsessed to hang around to launch now...

*Timidly asks*

What does this thread have to do with MEA? What do the posts here have to do with MEA? Why don't you just ignore the threads you don't like? Why make a thread about threads you consider troll--- Ah I see. Ill be on my way.

It has to do with the forum that discusses ME:A, and it is especially relevant do to recent trends and the lack of information.

Also, the last third of my original post requests two quality of life functions for ME:A (see? it wasn't even completely off topic, you should appreciate my genius).

And sometimes I do ignore annoying threads, but that's not the point. The point is that obvious trolling simply shouldn't exist here. At least not in this amount.

You're right.  This is a Mass Effect forum.

"Destroy" is a much better option.

Come on man. You are quite clearly moaning about threads you can't seem to ignore... All your problems wouldn't exist if you could ignore them. Then you have a thread asking for life improvements. Which some other random person on the internet might consider a troll thread.

it is so easy to label something as a troll whatever why put so much effort into it though?

What about those of us who are life-long trolls? I'm in far too deep to get out.
