Because other RPGs are not as good as it is.
For referece, what game do you think is the best RPG ever?
lol, I though ME2 was a great action 3rd person shooter with RPG elements.
It actually could be. Look at Inquisition, it was made game of the year.
well to be fair, it was a pretty weak year, especially in the AAA RPG department
I hope it will be. It would be a win for us all
Just go back to 2010 and Mass Effect 2.
Surrre...

Yeah the fact that we're human only (again), shoved into the N7 (again), the rumour of 7 companions (again) already tells me it ain't reaching that.
Then it would be Planescape: Torment.
The more I read about the game and about its "early access" version, the more I can feel my initial enthusiasm fading.
Seems like a choose your own adventure, with very little actual gameplay and underdeveloped combat system (which you rarely have cause to use anyway?...).
Ironically, I think that this is one of the games that will suffer financially due to the decision to go into the limbo stage called "early access".
I'll probably get it, but certainly not for 40-50 USD.
Edit: Brain fart. My post is about the new game, Tides of Numenera.

I think you got your Torment games mixed up there, TA. Planescape is the original. Tides of Numenera (the one that's in early access) is the spiritual successor.
Oh crap. My bad...
His observations apply to Planescape as well, though. The combat sucks and people mostly advise pouring points into dialogue stats so you can talk your way through the whole game. Basically, if the writing weren't really good, the game would kind of suck, because it depends 100% on that. Luckily, the writing is really good.

I didn't play the original, but supposedly the writing is good on the new one as well. We'll see.

I'll believe it when I play it. Until then, it's all a magical illusion, that can be real to the uninitiated.
For example: Car video ads on TV. This will burst your bubble.

Those seem like rather minor details to determine whether or not the game is very good.

Game might be good but when I say it ain't going to reach it, I mean I'm doubting it's going to reach the title "greatest RPG".
To me the greatest "RPG" should let you role play in so many different ways (loads of different personalities, loads of different backgrounds and loads of different endings for the PC) and be entertaining and immersive at the same time.
ME games are good and they're decent RPG's as well but limiting the main character doesn't make me go "This is the greatest RPG I've played".
Might be worth it to clarify whether we're talking about a game that is the greatest at letting you role-play, and a game that is called an RPG which you find to be the greatest game within that category. Personally those two are separate considerations, though it seems many grognards disagree.
..then that would be a Win.
What do you mean by best? Best as in Baldur's Gate best - receiving tons of critical acclaim and great feedback from the players? Or best as in Fallout 4 best - bribing games media and award shows in order to undeservingly receive the Game of the Year award? 'Cause there's a difference.
