Nothing has ever topped the Neverwinter Nights games for me. Though I, like many other people, tend to put their "first" on a pedestal.
What if Mass Effect Andromeda is the greatest RPG of all time?

"Best Ever" in a particular genre is a flawed concept in that the very definitions and boundaries of the various genres change as the technology changes and companies continually strive to "think outside the box" or "push the outer envelope" or whatever other cliche phrase is out there for doing it a little differently than the last guy/time.
In addition, "Best Ever" is always fleeting concept at best... only lasts until the next "best ever" comes along... and I'll leave it to the organizations that dole out awards to decide whatever they might find award worthy about it for the year.
I just want it to be an enjoyable game... and I think it will be.

Well I'd like to think it will be one of the greatest RPGs of all time... to me.
Yeaqh ME already feels like that already to me.

If I end up thinking Andromeda is the greatest RPG of all time than obviously that will make be very happy.
Isn't it weird how people have different standards for things?
Yeah some people prefer DAI over TW3. I don't get it.

It will probably be a great game, but I doubt it will be the greatest RPG of all time.
Because to be honest, we've not had RPGs for a very long time. For the last ten years or so we've had "choose your own adventure" games... and even they have devolved to give us so little choice or variations on the narrative, calling them CYOA probably no longer applies either.
The difference between RPGs now and what they used to be, is like comparing a game's easy difficulty to survival mode.
I'm not saying we should go back to remembering to eat or sleep (unless you want to play that on a survival mode or insanity), but it's a shame how we've moved further and further away from being able to craft our characters via stat choices and our own unique builds, as well as have freedom of choice in the game that we're playing.
I really wish that we'd stop removing these elements under the excuse of not alienating "casual gamers", as it seems a tad ridiculous at this point? Most regular gamers resent these changes and the little-to-no challenge they offer, while most casual gamers tend not to want their hands being held all the time, so all this does is leave both groups unsatisfied.
A great RPG should let you play the game out of order (from intended) and have the game acknowledge and change to reflect this.
Arriving late or not at all should have consequences, rather than events being left in limbo while you went collecting ore or loot from a dungeon for several hours instead. So that not going immediately - or even at all - means that people die or the situation gets resolved by someone else. Perhaps this group gives a totally new questline (since they did the old one for you) and this opens up new rewards.
So whether it's better to go late, let people die and let these guys take charge, or go early and get totally new rewards by following the original quest that was intended for that location, is something that each player can decide for themselves?
I probably will enjoy MEA as I did DAI, but I hope they include more RPG elements than the previous games, not less.

Bioware doesn't need to hype their game, just needs devoted fans.
They advertise/hype on twitter to attract more people than their 'devoted fans', The more the better right?

That would be amazing. I would love that. What if Mass Effect Andromeda is the greatest RPG of all time?
If MEA can knock Ultima IV off that top step, I will be very happy.

Then we'll be disappointed for the rest of time, and there will never be an innovation that makes for a better RPG.
So as much as I have hopes for MEA, let's not do that.

I have no doubts that it'll be an enjoyable shooter, however. Just too bad the story will most likely be the most uninspired garbage ever.

There's a higher likelihood of Jesus coming back tomorrow to stop the Brits from leaving the EU than there is for Andromeda to be the best RPG ever made.

That's not entirely true.
It's entirely possible it will be better than ME3 at least ![]()

From a business standpoint, if they're not actively marketing themselves to new audiences, they're not doing their job. They advertise/hype on twitter to attract more people than their 'devoted fans', The more the better right?

What if it also cures cancer? And makes your waifu real?
Just go back to 2010 and Mass Effect 2.

Wowee zowee, that's one terrible opinion you've got there.

If it doesn't measure up to something like Witcher 3 in terms of a fun open world with good side quests then I'm just gonna wait for Cyperpunk 2077 because Bioware isn't stepping it up.

Man this forum is sad. And don't be like "we're just realistic", no, all of of you are pessimistic, you should think about your perspectives guys. If you can't get excited for one of the possibily greatest games of all times, how can it be the greatest game of all times? It get's hyped "yeah it's just hype nothing else", they wanna surprise us "they are showing nothing, probably gonna suck"... "gamers" these days.

If we're pessimistic and the game is ok, I'll buy it and not be disappointed. If I was optimistic and the game wasn't the greatest game evah, well yeah.
Also if the game is the greatest game of RPG of all, then sometime in the future, there will be a game that's better, so it's not.
