So are all the races coming with us or just the council races?

Humans - check, for obvious reasons

Krogan - check, 'cause we need some muscle

Salarians - yeah, Salarians! Yeah, science!

Asari - check... unfortunately...

The other ones are up in the air. Wouldn't be surprised to see one or two members of other species coming along; nothing unrealistic about an individual Volus paying for passage 'cause he wants to be the first of his kind there. However, seeing a large bunch of say - Batarians, might be a bit harder to believe, since they're not usually on the best of terms with others.

There's no legitimate reason to exclude any of the races. We can safely assume that this is a one-way trip so BioWare gains nothing by leaving some races out. Including all of the races in the trip gives them more options for stories and characters, now and in future titles. They would be stupid to exclude races.

If they took the Krogan, would those Krogan still be affected by the Genophage?

Taking the Krogan would kinda mean they have to acknowledge that major decision in ME3. Unless of course they suddenly have a miracle cure over at Andromeda that just magically and conveniently sweeps all that under the rug.

We already know that our decisions in ME3 don't factor into MEA, so they don't need to address the Genophage cure. And it would be entirely illogical to cure the Krogan in the Andromeda galaxy. The only sound logic behind doing it in ME3 is to get the Krogan's support in the war. The Krogan are a destructive race that produce thousands and thousands of offspring that can live for thousands of years. It would be a disaster. The Council created the Genophage for a reason, and it works very well.

Well the council races are a given, so i'll skip them.

So who else might be coming?

Well I highly doubt the Turians would abandon their client races. So I am sure the Volus will still be around, they just might not have any big roles. Likewise I could see Krogan, depending on the type of Krogan coming along, would bring Varren and Vorcha with them. Maaaaaaybe not Varren if they have strick resource issues but who knows.

So the species most likely to be left out are Hanar, Drell, Quarians and Geth.

Hanar and Drell both have pretty strict living conditions that might make ark travel difficult. I honestly can't say if we will see them in ME:A. As a non human, non biped species they will take resources to make models for and animate. Their main purpose in ME was their connection to the protheans, who might not be relevant at all anymore and if we don't get Hanar we won't get Drell. Drell just don't have the numbers otherwise.

Quarians and Geth will be tough. I know they said they won't be taking ME3's ending into account, but until near the end of the game both species were at war with each other, and the resolution of their story arc potentially leaves one of these species destroyed. If they give us both, unless they decide to completely ignore all of that, I don't see how we will have either of them.

If we do get them, Quarians are much more likely and make more sense.

I hope they're all coming, but don't expect it.

The rumored leak of a secret fan panel at Pax in 2013 claimed that participants were asked which two species they'd least like too see return, or something to that effect. Assuming that leak is legit, which appears to be the case, Bioware may not have been planning on bringing them all back.

On the other hand that alleged leak claimed that Quarians and Krogan were the two chosen by the majority of the panel, and we know Krogan are back.

That leak also said that the fans were shown in game models of asari, human, salarian, and krogan (all of which we have seen in the past 3 E3s). The fans were asked which 2, out of the main species, they would ax, and they did choose quarians and krogan. My guess though is they already had story reasons to keep the krogan. They probably axed turians and quarians. I doubt they will include any other species.

Given that the krogan would still have the genophage (or could, potentially, depending on how the original series played out), I'm not sure what "story-related purpose" there could be.

I swear, I hope they don't retcon the choice to "Shepard always cured the genophage cause krogan were awesome!" If they do, I won't buy.

It doesn't matter either way actually. The Krogan were adapting to the genophage naturally weren't they? As long as these Krogan were taken before The events of Tuchanka it could still work.

That would surprise me A LOT.

They were already adapting yeah. Don't forget that there doesn't need to be an ME3 decision to cure the genophage in order to make it fit with the story. If the story mandates a cure or more adapting it can be easily implemented (not saying it'll be well written, or appreciated by the players). One can come up with a whole bunch of quasi-reasonable explanations. Say... a couple hundred years in cryo has weakened the genophage because 'technobabble'. That's just the first thing that comes to mind.

If Bioware needs to change things like this to fit their story they don't need to do it by saying 'Shepard cured it no matter what', there's ways around that.

From what we know about the genophage, the Krogan viable birth rate would probably be fine if they weren't stuck on Tuchanka. No need to have it cured for them to settle in Andromeda

"We want this to be a new story and it would be very hard to say it's a new story but also that you need to understand how [the past trilogy] ended," Flynn noted. It seems likely that the central colony ship of Mass Effect: Andromeda was dispatched before the end of Mass Effect 3 as a Reaper survival ark (so you'll encounter plenty of familiar species within its halls), but the crew has likely spent decades, if not centuries, asleep."

This was in Gamesradar article. All of the them?

I think this game is THE answer to the biggest WTF from ME3.

WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL THE PEOPLE ON THE CITADEL between the Cerberus invasion and it finding its way to Earth?    answer: Most folks left on colony ships!!

The Citadel was a refugee point....so im smelling those folks being sent off on colony ships. So our journey in ME:A begins before ME3 ends.

I guess there's one rule in Andromeda as well then. Hope Aria brought her couch. It just wouldn't be the same without it.

Nah, that will be a no-buy for me. I do not want the krogan pushed on me like in the last trilogy.

There must be more Drell who were no longer serving Hanar and "free men" like Thane.

Given how prolific the Salarians can be... you just need a few females and even less males.

You just need 1 asari to pollute every other gene-pool.

Are Turians egg layers?  Even so - they're based off birds who don't do mass clutches of eggs.  So we'll need more Turians.

Volus, Hanar, and Elcor are virtually "unknowns" as far as I'm aware considering their reproduction.

The Krogan have been crippled reproductively - so we'll need more of them (far less if there were no genophage).

Drell, Vorcha, Batarians probably already have such small populations by the time these things leave... and Vorcha will probably get aboard like rats more than anything.

I'd be disappointed with whoever organized this mission if they decided to play favorites with who goes on the ark - all the species should have a chance to avoid extinction. I'm guessing, however, that a substantial portion of the ark population would be civilians who only ever appear as background NPCs, so it may be that there are some species that we don't see very often or that aren't available as squadmates.

EDIT: Grammar.

Yeah, this. If it's a mostly human operation lead by humans then ugh. It better be a multi-species launched effort with similar numbers of them on the arks. Though they keep making stuff human-centered and said something like that for this one as well. I'm really sick of getting that forced into the writing.
