Hi everyone,

Now that we know that the N7 character is not the protagonist and we've seen multiple shots of the protagonist.. maybe we can infer some info about his/her rank or designation (which ties to the question of why he/she is the protagonist in the first place).

Let's start with this screen shot from the trailer:

1Xk3rgCF.png

You can clearly spot a G-2 designation on the armor (note it's also clearly missing any kind of Alliance/N7 markers)

The second image below also contains the letter A and a logo on the protagonist's shoulder:

1XkawOhx.png

Note that the logo in no way refers to the Systems Alliance, and it certainly doesn't look like the ARKCON logo that was shared with us before

1XkkGJ9u.jpg

I think for the shots the logo on the character's shoulder most likely refers to the organization he's representing and the letters on the back refer to some kind of rank within that organization, What do you think guys? and how's that related to the N7 character?

Most likely they'll have N7 anyway or something because then they can sell More hoodies.

It's Ai actually.

Mac Walters was seen with a T-shirt which has that logo. It could be ARKCON Initiative or Alliance Intelligence as Tzeentchian Apostrophe said (over here).

Perhaps interesting: Last year they planned to name the first new novel Mass Effect: Pathfinder Initiative and this year that name was changed to Mass Effect: Andromeda Initiative. Now, whatever the book will actually be titled, there is something in the ME:A lore that used to be called the Pathfinder Initiative and now is changed to Andromeda Initiative.

Also interesting, one of the modelling artists referred to the N7 Guy as the model for the Pathfinder, multiple times. So he is 'also' a Pathfinder, or used to be the Pathfinder, but is no longer.

BioWare never confirmed the player is the Pathfinder, but someone who took a survey (the famous leak) said that we would be the Pathfinder. That's our only source for that, for now.

I'm worried about that leak.

You know what happened the last time some less-than-stellar person leaked BioWare game story? Mass Effect 3's plot was rewritten. And we got the Red-Blue-Green ending so many people are still salty about. Yes, without THAT damn leak, ME3 would be significantly different.

There's a big difference between a leaked survey (like DA:I also experienced) and a leaked script. Also, the differences between the leaked script and final game aren't that big.

You're overreacting, if anything for one simple reason - nearly all new official information that we have was accurately represented in that leak, including (for example) the name of the ship we are using.

So clearly, they have changed little or nothing at all.

Dude, have you ever read the ME3 leak?. Apparently not, since the leaked ending and the ending we got are the same.

I thought this was "O2" as in like a little oxygen tank or something. I might just be dumb though.

Doesn't look like the logo on Mac's shirt TBH, It's an A and then like an open rectangle

On that point as well, did anyone notice that in all scenes in the trailer the colonies look well established? I think we're not the first ark to arrive on Andromeda.

Maybe another Ark (the one with the N7 guy) arrives first, tasked with like creating forward operating bases and then we arrive and that's when the conflict starts.

Yeah, it's not "Ai" particularly over there but it is on the helmet. I believe both are same. The shoulder logo is just there to highlight some organisation more. ARKCON and Alliance are the only two things we can speculate on that "A" atm.

Edit: Andromeda can be added to that list.

That's not the story I know of.

Originally, Tali's ME2 recruitment was a hint at what was coming. Remember how she was investigating dark energy buildup on Haestrom?

That the Quarians have apparently been investigating since before the Morning War? That random bit is said to have been the introduction to ME3 plot.

Dark energy buildup would eventually destroy the universe, and the Reapers were wiping out cycles to prevent that. The War wasn't the sole focus of the original plot, and this got wiped in favor of the boogeyman.

Well Ai seems to stand for Andromeda initiative, based on the book coming out.

Who knows whether this multy-race initiative even has military ranks in it. It could be civilian, or have a different governing system entirely.

If Ryder does have an alliance military rank than it's probably lower than Commander, since they're supposed to be less seasoned than Shepard.

I think Andromeda Initiative is the closest interpretation we can think of right now, the question is though.. if Ryder is of lower rank than Shepard (Shep was a Lieutenant Commander), then why is he/she in a position of power anyway? I'm really leaning towards the AI being a non-military mission

Bear in mind when Ryder wakes up at the end of the trailer the clothes she's wearing do not have any kind of military designation as well

Probably, we will start following the lead of a mentor . At the beginning of ME1 Shepard was under the command of Captain Anderson. Maybe this time we'll spend half of the game under the command of someone else (maybe N7 guy?) before going our own way. Maybe for that reason loyalty missions will be important this time: you grant the loyalty of your people/squad before going rogue or before your captain goes rogue.

Again, read the leaks if you're going to talk about leaks causing the story to be changed.

That dark energy script was never written, so it never leaked. They were considering that idea but didn't go with it. Drew K. discussed what that plot might have been, but that was months after ME3 shipped. FWIW, his idea was even worse than what we got, and would have required the Crucible or something like it anyway.

I'm going to go with Mess Sergeant.  When you start taking out all the bad guys, you are going to say stuff along the lines of "I'm just a cook."

But as far as the stuff on the armor goes, G2 could just be the type or brand of environment suit.

I believe that is just the branding of the armour. I think all the marks show is who made the armour, or who the armour belongs to, and little else. Could be wrong but I doubt it.
