Was wondering about the races that might be joining us in Andromeda and I'm pretty sure it won't be everyone, not in any significant numbers anyway, and we've probably been shown in the trailer who will be with us.

Then it struck me that the timing of when we leave is critical to that because we can't have anyone whose future was open to player choice in the game... as in Quarian/Geth.

So how do you think the Krogan story will be managed?  We can't leave post influence of the Genophage decision, whatever it is as we did have a choice...

Anyone want to wager the Krogan reproduction issue is either not touched at any point or there is some way a 'cure' found its way into the Ark science lab... but even saying that feels clunky

What I was thinking was it would make sense for us to take some Geth with us to 'babysit' the ship on the journey, but again that requires timing and a lot of handling of the ME3 story lines as we have to go early enough so we avoid the Quarian/Geth decisioin (and by this I'm talking about Rannoch) but too early and no one will really be very trusting of the Geth apart from Shepard... so sadly I'm now also pretty sure we wont be taking tin man with us.

Yeah so that was it really just trying to plot the earliest we could leave (if its in the ME3 timeline) as I think it's pretty definite we leave before we get anywhere near the 'end' of ME3.

When I read the title I thought it was romance related... this has been one of THOSE days on the BSN you understand.

The goal of Andromeda was to not have to acknowledge any of the major choices of the Shep trilogy, so it makes sense to leave before Mass Effect 3 even starts or right at the very beginning just after the Reapers attack.

If they don't want to deal with the whole genophage thing they'll just cure it again during the trip, because it's not like we didn't run into a cure(or almost cure) in basically every Mass Effect game so far. It seems less like it's difficult to cure and more like nobody cared to really try.

What? This isn't a romance thread?

Taking along Krogans doesn't make much sense if the Andromeda Initiative is initiated by the council, since the Salarians would veto it. Still there are Krogans coming along, so I consider this fan service. For the same reason Geth might be coming along as well. Perhaps they created a bunch of Geth with a seperate 'server', that aren't connected to any other Geth. A secluded bunch, still acting as Geth.

Or you know, stowaways.

I heard a rumor that romance scenes might be quick-time events in Andromeda.

Yeah I kind of wonder how the genphage will be handled.  Maybe stg forwarded info on it to the ark project before they left and it gets taken care of in transit or post transit.  Or perhaps the Ark Krogan just accept it (unlikely but possible).

I disagree (your argument is well reasoned, but WOG (and the devs/writers are gods in Mass Effect) can change ANYTHING - they could throw all the lore out the window (wouldn't be a great or popular move, but they could do that!)) can change all that!)

I still think we will see the majority of the races in Andromeda - even the ones you discount, especially the Qarians (excluding them would ****** a lot of fans off...same for the Geth, because even if there's only a handful of infiltrator programms along that essentially saves the whole race - it's like Tali says: The Geth aren't hardware, they are SOFTWARE...the Geth-Bodies are only avatars kind of (the Geht are in a way like us players!))

The Krogan thing is EASY: Look for the most successful and intelligent mercenaries (people like WREX!) and offer them to cure the genophage (on them!) if they join the expedition (the Salarian STG is surely sending a lot of STG-Personal along on the expedition and all of the major races will probably provide a lot of data for the arks (from technological manuals and build-schematics to literature, art and science data - even stuff that's normally secret like data on the genophage, because they think Andromeda is the best hope they have - maybe the last chance to safe the Milkyway races after all!) and give them a fresh start :) (as for why Krogans? - They are TOUGH and you'll lose less Krogan in unfriendly environments than other people because they can take a lot of damage (look at GRUNT in ME3!))

All the Quarians on board could be exiles or people who had been on pilgrimmage - so over all: Everything can be explained (sure some will call it half-assed etc. - but I for one rather have ALL THE RACES (and a flimsy explanation) than have ME become less than it is now but have a good explanation why certain races aren't in Andromeda!)

Well in ME2 Mordin stated that the Krogan were slowly adapting to the Genophage with there DNA creating new strands to work-around the strands damaged by the Genophage (with Mordin and a team creating a new strain of the Genophage to attack the new strands) so they could say that over time the Krogan can adapt again.

Or they could go with the more simpler route of the Krogan that are part of the Ark Initiative are among the few Krogan that were fertile.

Seriously, no one in-universe would seriously entertain the idea, especially considering that it would be no huge effort to create an effective automated system.

I can't remember but when did the lastest Geth/Q thing we see in ME3 kick off?  I know we learn about it after it starts but did it kick off before Earth is attacked?

IF we leave just before ME3/earth attack and IF G/Q figthing started before then we could also not see either of those races on the Arks.

I agree the Krogan DNA will work itself out and get around the genophage with no outside meddling.

As a Krogan there's endless opportunities in Andromeda.

Take a risk going to Andromeda to colonize a planet and live like a warlord or remain in sh1thole Tuchanka where the average life expectancy is low.

Some believe the Krogan race is dying but everyone has to die down the road.  I still have to live a great life

Krogans aren't the most highly regarded race in the Milky Way.

Andromeda is an opportunity to start anew.

Quarians more than likely won't be in Andromeda. They don't usually leave the fleet unless pilgrimage or exile. Considering Andromeda seems to be a one way trip none of them would go, unless it's a few exiles.

Genophage Krogans a a viable species; actually more viable than human, I'd wager. That said, maybe that's why the fertile females were in Surkesh in the first place.

Either way is ok by me.

Quarians could have gone, the ark would just have to have left before their plotline concludes in ME3. Geth, OTOH, I don't think so; there's just no logic in them being there if the ark leaves before they're made allies (if they are).

Krogans are more driven to head to Andromeda than any other race.

People make big moves and take risks when their life isn't great yet.

Right.  VIs are all over the place, and the council races actually know how to make AIs if they want.  The latter are just illegal, which might not even matter for this project.

                                                                                    <<<<<<<<<<(0)>>>>>>>>>>

From what I understand:

1. ME:A is not affected by the events in ME3.

2. It's a game centred on human struggles in the Helius Cluster.

3. It's a game with new characters and with new aliens.

4, Plus, what makes a Mass Effect game?

Understanding those four points, imo,  is key to Andromeda. The game doesn't have to give a rat's azz, about the genophage, the fate of Quarians, the Geth, when the ARKs left, how many or when they left. In other words, the story of Andromeda is all about the human characters that wake up there.

Timing = ME3

The order to launch the ARKs was given when communications failed with distant solar system defense bases (think Pluto, Uranus..) and before the Reapers hit the Moon's defenses. Shep is back with the Alliance military and was briefed by Admiral Hackett on the ARKCON project. Ergo, the goodbye message in the studio's second video. Remember, the Alliance has Shep dead in ME2 with rumours of being alive and working for Cerberus. No way would the Alliance confide in Shep about the ARKCON project in ME2.

Species in the ARKs

As this is a human evacuation with "volunteer colonists", any non human species would be given a small "berth" (ie: colony ship) to be carried by the ARK.  Which species? Those that could help the project and those that can help in Andromeda. I'd go for Asari, Salarian, Turians (grudgingly) and Krogan.

However, this does not preclude the possibility that the other Council races created their own ARKs. Sadly, no other species had the skills and resources to do so.
