So do we need to start bringing fishing poles with us to these forums?  the threads around here are full of nothing but bait.

What? Pandering is as American as Apple Pie. It's coated every other Hollywood movie especially nowadays.

Well, apple pie isn't an American creation, so if it's as American as apple pie, then it's not very American at all. Unless you consider America to be part of Europe during the Middle Ages.

Ah, but that's yet another discussion. Most Turkish people and many Hispanics, for example, look white, yet they're rarely thought of as such.

So what racial backgrounds constitute Hispanics?  Non US person wants to know?

Do they include Maltese, Italian, Greek? The're all olive skinned complexion.

Well, apple pie isn't an American creation, so well done.

So American culture is so stupid they invent phrases or idea that don't even make sense or cohere with reality and  make the world a worse place? Kind of like Pandering?

Give more, please.

Cultures steal things and make it their own all the time. That's a significant chunk of history. America took command of apple pie.

That must be why i don't eat apple pie like ever, I can sense it's crappy Americano trash heap and wasn't the original.

Seriously, pie here tastes like crap.

Taco Bell is literally the only halfway decent tasting thing here.

Do you live in Japan? If so, you can't use the computer. And if you do live in Japan, you can't use the English language or the Internet, it wasn't invented there.

Not being serious. Just thought, since we're in a troll topic created by a troll, we should at least have some fun.

So predictable, in addition to a drinking game I'm going to place some bets as well.

$50 on people posting "OMG trollololol I expect better from my trolls lolz 0/10" and feeding the troll afterwards.

$100 on the the thread being derailed and turning into a discussion about social politics in America.

$20 for every time 'SJW' is mentioned.

Place your bets people!!

So what racial features constitute Hispanics?  Non US person wants to know?

"Hispanic" isn't really a racial term, it just refers to someone who has roots going back to Spain, typically referring to the colonies that Spain had established in the Americas. The Spanish people interbred with the natives in the areas that were colonized, and the offspring were referred to as "Hispanic" from other European peoples before the term was carried over to the present day. Now it basically just means someone who is from more or less any area in Central or South America.

Bioware tries to be inclusive, which I applaud. I do feel that some of their non-white characters are unconsciously written as unfortunate stereotypes (for example Jacob and his father being unable to keep it in their pants). Some Asian characters were handled very well (Samesh Bhatia, Fai Dan, Khalisa, Maya Brooks) while others tended to fall into ninja (Kasumi, Kai Leng), samurai (Maeko Matsuo), model minority (Emily Wong, Sam Traynor, Grace Sato, Kaidan) and evil corporate Asian steroetypes (Ethan Jeong). I'm sure Bioware will continue to make diverse characters and (I hope) work on fleshing them out rather than relying on racial shorthand.

In my opinion, the least stereotypical nonwhite characters are:

David Anderson

Cortez

Ashley

Donnel Udina

Gianna Parasinni

Arcelia Silva Martinez

Khalisa Al-Jilani

Samesh Bhatia

Fai Dan

Cortez

Rodriguez

Maya Brooks

The more stereotypical characters:

Jacob and his father

Kai Leng

Kasumi

Ethan Jeong

Emily Wong

Sam Traynor

Maeko Matsuo

Vega

So overall not a bad track record, but some room for improvement.

I do hope Bioware also continues to strive for diversity in their voice acting cast. I'm glad they cast Kimberly Brooks, Keith David, Michael Dorn, Kenyon Glover, Freddie Prinze Jr., Ike Amadi, Shohreh Aghdashloo and Kym Hoy, but I was disappointed at the overall small percentage of nonwhite actors. Looking at the headshots of the cast on IMDB, they're 90+% white. And while voice actors don't necessarily have to be of the same race as the person they're playing, I was disappointed that Traynor and Lengs VA's were caucasian.

It's not being a contrarian, America is a nation of failures and that's fine.

I just wish they wasted some of those opportunities to push that set of values onto me and others.

That's what I thought, but does that leave the Italians in US, as whites or what?

Assuming they aren't people of mixed ethnicities, Italians would be white.

Anyway it's literally impossible for the pandering/American way of life not to go extinct at one point or another, so I don't know why Bioware would waste time with a stupid ideology but there you go I guess.

So hopefully the world will de-Americanify with all deliberate speed already is in many ways delusions on BSN to the contrary.

It's cool. As a non US person,  US ethnic classifications are a bit bamboozling.

Are you serious? There's at least 17 characters who are not Caucasian and a little over 6 Caucasian human characters in Mass Effect.

I can currently think of:

Miranda,

the illusive man,

Jack,

Joker,

Kelly Chambers

and Dr Chakwas.

I probably missed out a couple but I think we can safely say that it's not mainly Caucasian people at all, in fact, it's quite the opposite.
