This is really in an anticipation of MEA but thought I'd get better answers here.

My only every attempt at multiplayer was ME3 was to raise readiness such that I could get all endings. I actually quite enjoyed it to my surprise, so it's conceivable that I might dip my toe in again. I was struggling even on the lowest difficult servers

so here are the issues,  I'm a bit of a loner and none of my friends play on PC,  and I don't even own a microphone.  I'm over 50 and started playing late so the twitch skills aren't there.  Nevertheless I beat all 3 games on hardest difficulty.

I get 21ms ping to to my ISP in Australia.

Am I beyond hope? Is there anything I can do other than play with randoms alot to git gud?

Edit PC player.

You just have to play the game and climb the ladder like the rest of us did. What's the rush, are you hoping to be the next TGI Harrier sc0r3wh0r3 right now?

no rush,  just wondering if there are any tips outside that?

Does the ME playerbase use a mic or not bother?

Random thoughts on the matter:

- There's always a Marauder behind you. Even against Geth.

- Play on a lower difficulty while learning and playing with randoms. If you run into better players via randomness/the forum/friends list, that's when it will be more worth it to play a moderate or higher difficulty. It's hard to learn without enough of a cushion to figure things out, so take advantage of the lower difficulties to get around your weak manifest while you learn how objectives work, and where enemies tend to spawn/cluster on maps.

- Counter-Intuitive Lesson Time: When that screaming Banshee is bearing down on you, race to the nearest ramp. Hide on the ramp, preferably so that you are lower than she is. Then stick your face in her crotch. Incredibly, this is the second-safest position to be in when facing a Banshee (the safest position is anywhere away from her while there is another teammate drawing aggro from her crotch.)

- Mention platform somewhere (even edit OP to include said info.) This tends to generate play offers from the forum (if so desired - after all, they are a weird bunch.)

In short:

1. Always put on consumables. Always. Even if you only have lower level ones - put them on and don't be stingy - you can always buy some Jumbo Packs to refill and they are cheap. Always have medigel.

2. Be a team player. Do the objectives, cover people who do objectives, revive, let them revive you if you're in a good place, if you're not - get out of it yourself by gelling. Try to "die" in comfortable to reach places for your team, but don't die too much and too early.

3. Try not to get sync-killed. You can always be revived after you're downed, but after a sync-kill you're just a drag. Also don't get curb stomped by American X Troopers.

4. Use rockets sparingly, but don't be a cheapskate either. Don't leave them for wave 11 either (unless you're FTL and this is your alt account) Nuke bosses (like Banshees or Praetorians) that can sync before you revive someone.

5. Have fun

Should I always promote my rating and stick with the one class?

xcalizorz is a treasure. What a snarky little ****.

OT: Play power classes until you build up a decent manifest. Combo detonations scale to difficulty, so you can deal damage and not have to worry about weak-ass guns.

Promotion is pointless. Just level them up to 20 and leave them be. Use respec cards if you want to change powers around.

Try playing all classes, since they all offer different styles of play, but Infiltrators are considered to be the easiest to start with.

Oh, and the most important tip: If you see someone meleeing you between the waves (especially a Krogan headbutting you) - you HAVE to melee back, unless you want to be branded a Pyjack for life and get thrown out of the Krannt

Hey, just want to say that I am over 50 as well. But I have been playing this game since it came out back in 2012, I believe. You have come to the right place. I only joined this forum this year. I learnt by playing bronze. I even tried solo. Bronze solo is a walk in the park as long as I keep my head and not get too cocky. Silver solo is also no problem, like a gentle exercise. Gold solo, well, only attempted it less than 20 times but only managed it twice. Platinum solo, less than 10 but only managed it once. That was about two or three years ago now. Since then I have only played multiplayer with random players. I type to communicate as I don't use the mic. You can add me if you want. Oh, there seems to be a bug with Origin. Everytime I turned on  Origin in game, my game will crash. So, I have it off. If you see me in a game, I won't be able to answer your call. Really sorry. But then again, since you are in Austrialia, the time difference will need some arrangement to fix a time for a game.

By the way, in this forum, you can search for build as reference so you can improve quicker. I regreted that I didn't join this forum years ago. People here are great. Friendly, bit nutty sometimes but all good people. :) Have fun.
