I still have games where I don't score first, OWA. To me, I enjoy the game all the different ways you can play it. Using optimal setups, you'll kill fast and probably top score, unless I'm in a lobby with an equally good player or someone using something more OP, etc whatever. Or, I'll bring a Destroyer/Spitfire to see how slow I can run from one end of Rio to the other while dying 100 times laughing my ass off, or see if I can get 50 tech & biotic kills by popping Tech Armor on the HSent.

The point I'm trying to make is, we haven't forgotten how to have fun, but sometimes that means outscoring everyone by 100k if that's what I'm in the mood to do.

I get what you're saying. Sometimes it just seems hopeless because I feel like I'm killing and killing and hardly dying while everyone else is but I'm still ending last on the scoreboard, that's what confuses me, why it isn't enough. I guess I need to keep practicing, keep going at it until I succeed. I haven't forgotten to have fun while playing though, usually while playing with the real good players I don't care about the kills, I'm just there to have fun while chatting and running around, it's mostly when playing with pugs I go for the kills :)

But there are many other arts to master. Like killstealing, baiting sync-kill bosses on PUGS for them to be sacrificed. and so on.

Don't forget about locking them in the reactor, there is nothing more satisfying in this game than watching 3 confused pugs getting cooked together.

And Lashing abombs and phantoms at people. :D

Well, if killing speed is what you're going for, you need to be killing stuff in groups; AoE attacks and power combos will get the job done, especially in tight spaces. Also, who is using missiles/going for killstreaks? Using grenade classes or infiltrators? If someone is literally just going for score, unless you missile and whatnot, they'll outscore you, but there's no fun in that.

Far as playing with pugs....you have to be top dog or else chances are you guys won't make it. 90% of pugs don't belong in gold/platinum so carrying is a must :P

If you guys are as helpful in game as you are in here,  that's comforting.

To be clear,  I'm not going to be jumping into MP soon,  have too big a backlog of other games to play.

This is really good advice Clyde thank you. You expert players here are truly helpful. I've been really lucky to get great advice and help early on and people have carried me a lot, it's certainly not because of the lack of help that I'm failing to get better at the moment, it's my own doing, no matter how ungrateful I might seem at times when I rage here lol. It's really nice to see you guys be so kind and patient with the newer gamers :)

Use right hand advantage and use it often, always check your flank and your back for sneaking sync killers, don't be stingy with your consumables/gear and play the fricking objective. That's pretty much the basics to being a decent player in mp. Oh and since you're an Sp player, remember that there is NO pause button in the Mp.

Other than that, learn about the power combos like biotic explosions etc and how to setup combos for your teammates. Like suppose an enemy is on fire, overloading them is gonna get you a fire explosion but if the enemy is glowing blue due to biotics, don't overload them. Or do it if you wanna troll them.

Also a lot of the newer players seem to carry a backup weapon in case if they run out of ammo but Imo it's useless. If you ever run out of ammo mid fight especially on the higher difficulties, by the time your character switches out to their secondary you're either going to be dead or have enough time to run to an ammo box.

Most importantly, always return any krogan headbutts you receive and if you ever see a teammate next to a possessed abomination, blow their ass up.

Respectively:

1) Sometimes the best way to help with an objective is to draw aggro elsewhere. A Juggernaut keeping banshees under control in the next room is a hell of a lot more useful than one in the hack circle.

2) Ehh, backup weapons can be necessary sometimes. There are a lot of kits where I've seen people have the Hurricane on hand for... bosses, I think? I dunno, I don't have it/don't use SMGs in the first place so I'm not 100% sure of the logic. :P

I like the way you're thinking Gen, after all that's why I got into me3 mp to begin with to have fun. The competitive side of me and feeling silly if I lose is really stupid when I think about it. But I just can't help of wonder if the pro's or the real good players would have felt the same way if they were truly noobs as well?..... I mean, would they TRULY not care about high kill counts or ending last on the scoreboard then? Perhaps they just don't care now because they're so good at the game that they can lean back and relax.... just a thought.... :D

I admit that I come from a family of military people and a dad with a harsh tone who saw losing and being sad as not an option, that's why I have such a hard time in life accepting defeat, even in video games lol, I hate being like that but I blame him and my military career xD

Ps.: Don't mind my rambling, it's late here and I need sleep :D

"The greatest test of courage on earth is to bear defeat without losing heart." :)

... to be honest... someone has to come last... even if it was 4 pros in a game one of them would have to be at the bottom... so being at the bottom really does mean nothing :) also... just because you dont score as high as some others doesnt mean youre not a pro... just because a team loses at baseball doesnt mean theyre automatically not pros anymore... theyre still professional sports people playing with other professionals. And thats what youre doing... youre playing with other pros you know???

I know youve been playing for longer than I have... but we both dont have all the guns and things and yet youre playing gold and platinum and im playing bronze and silver... I think that says a lot about how good you are ;)

Direction I thought you were going in with this, which is equally as true: Top score does not always mean best player, or, perhaps more importantly, best team player. Score-whoring can get you to the top but doesn't really help out the team.

Thats true also... I just kinda think in mass effect a team is a group of 4 people who work together as a single kinda entity and if youre contributing to that entity your success and... proness (lets pretend thats a word ok???) isnt decided by how many points you have but how successful the team is... if score was really important in the game there would be challenges saying "earn 100,000 points in a single game" or something right???

True enough but how many puggernauts have you seen effectively draw aggro away from the hack circle? Most puggernauts I've seen can barely stay alive much less draw aggro by themselves on the other side of the map. Also wouldn't it be more effective if the juggs can keep the banshees under control within the hack circle?

As for the 2) my point was not about using backup weapons. It was against the observation that many newish players tend equip two weapons for the fear that they might run out of ammo. It's a valid tactic in a regular fps where you carry a backup pistol in case you run out of ammo on your main. But it doesn't work as well here since the weapon switching animations for guns are way too slow.

In the example you stated about the hurricane, like say a hurricane acolyte combo, the hurricane isn't a backup weapon really. You use the acolyte against shields and the hurricane against armor. Both the weapons are used equally depending on the situation.

imo,  it should be the reason to play this type of game,  but leader boards and earning points conflicts with this.  This is true in real life too.

Edit:  and RNG is the worst by rewarding more points received.

This is very very true in theory. In practice, in my experience at least, most of the "don't worry, I will go and draw aggro away from the team" players actually don't give a fig about the objective, and are just trying to justify their own scoremongering, as normally shown by a killfeed replete with said kiter's tag <_<

For example, I'd rather the jugg kept the banshees under control while in the circle (the jugg, not the banshees :P those can be kept on the outside, thank you very much); this way they are making the hack faster, and we can in turn help in controlling the banshees.

Especially when it comes to escorts and hacks, where the number of players helping does matter, I just rather everyone stuck together and used missiles as necessary.

On devices, kiting can be incredibly beneficial, so I am always happy when that happens (it doesn't happen often ); even then, if I had to choose, I'd rather have someone standing guard over next to the device

As for targets, well... I guess that's when the "I will help by kiting" mentality often reverses :P a pity, because that's one objective where a good team can use kiting in order to complete the objective without missiles ;)

That said, I don't mean to sound patronizing: if you do prefer kiting, by all means go for it! I for one will notice and appreciate it ;) even more so, since it's rarely done properly.

True Story.....   after the 1st time I beat the single player campaign on insanity...( I was still only playing silver in MP at the time )  ...it pumped up my ego up enough to where I thought I could do a platinum solo......... i picked the MQE w my level 2 hurricane... I rolled dagger / collectors .....i used up every single consumable halfway thru wave 2......( got stomped by a captain) ..so basically it felt like the game did this to me.....

Or .... When playing as Asari, the Melee-gasm, - in fact the general pattern is too heavy melee at the landing zone with people you recognize from AHF or BSN.
Ofc the noobs would think you 're having a spastic attack again - but that's ok.

I have a dream - one day I would like to headbutt at the lz , the whole Wave 1 and let the noobs that don't participate handle the rest. Serves them right for all the curry they'll get.

Is a Melee-gasm the same mechanic as a Krogan headbutt?

If not,  then with that evocative name,  I demand a video.

As I have said several times, when I first started playing ME3 (got it only for the MP), I was playing ME2 pretty much exclusively on Insanity, and from what I have seen on ME3's Insanity, I came from the right place. I wasn't prepared for the intensity level of it. SP is very laid back, pick the best cover and wait out the budget. Even on Bronze, with level 1 commons that doesn't really work. The enemies are more aggressive, and every faction has their answer to hard cover.

It was a very humbling experience, coming from the top (Insanity), and crashing down in Bronze. It's a totally different experience. One is slow, methodical, and tactical. The other is frantic and unforgiving. Sure, we all laugh at Bronze NOW, but I doubt anybody's first game was "easy".

EDIT: I got up to Geth Dreadnaught, then did Citadel DLC up until the body-double fight on Insanity. Really didn't like the Citadel's map layouts.
