35 hours to install on PC? Really?

So, our PC crashed a few weeks back. We lost everything on the C drive. Some stuff on D still there. But Inquisition was on C.

I just tried to install it from disk, but it skipped that and went straight to Origins and started downloading. And the time at the bottom keeps veering between 35 and 34 hours download time.

It never took that long when I first installed it. I know our internet was slow, but I didn't realise it was quite that slow!

Is it really going to take the best part of a day and a half to download? That just boggles the mind!

It has just gone to 1% after two hours.

Well bear in mind that the game is, what, 4 x DVDs?

I guess if you have a slow connection and you're downloading I think it's 26Gb or something onto what might possibly be a slightly dodgy drive and installing it?

Yeah it might not be behaving terribly well.

Did it do anything when it rejected a disk install? you said it skipped it?

I assume you had to rebuild your C:\, if not have you done a complete uninstall and so forth...?

I downloaded a few months ago, the GOTY edition, and it was significantly less than that.  Must be your setup.  :(

Yes, we reinstalled the C drive, but lost everything that was on it. It might also be that now we have windows 10, and before the crash we had windows 8.1. That might affect it too I suppose. I only had 2 dvds. But the installation will be installing all the DLC as well, as I purchased them from Origin last year.

When I inserted the disk, a little text box came up and said "what do you want to do". I cicked on autorun and it just went straight to Origin and stated downloading.

Well I know my version has 4, but be that as it may...

...when it goes to autorun, if you override it and just go to file explorer, maybe that would work?

How did you install it last time?

Is it the GOTY version, if so I think it has an online download component for DLC? Although I've downloaded - (most of) - the DLCs and it's not taken that long...

Yes, I tried that too, it still goes to Origin. I can't remember last time whether it installed from the disk or from Origins. Origins was already installed for the Sims 3, so it may well have installed from Origins then too. It could well be our internet, it's not exactly fast here. And I can't even use a wired connection to see if that helps as the PC and router are in different rooms. Wifi is my only option.

But the bar has moved to 6%. So it is moving, albeit a bit slowly :)

Thanks everyone for your help/suggestions :)

If you HALT the installation after passing the EA/Origin Game Validation check at the beginning of the process, then disable your network card in the control panel, (not just unplug the cable) then you can RE-START the installation from the discs without being connected.  Lot's faster (and no usage hit if you're metered.)

Just don't forget to re-enable your NIC afterwards!  ;)
