I don't get anyone that only plays 1 game when there are interesting options out there. DAIMP is on my regular rotation right now due to some fun players i enjoy being around. I got some euro guy on my friend list who's ps trophy score is like 55... I'll NEVER get there, so why bother, i focus on my own goals and have fun.
I only play DA games for a variety of reasons.
A little background. I never really got into video games as a kid/young adult but I did like a few games here and there but never spent hours and hours playing them. I did get into King's Quest IV on PC back in the dinosaur days and a few SNES games. That being said, I have been playing table top AD&D since the 70's and in the 90's got into VtM LARP quiet deeply. Because I can play a character I want to play as.
I never really got into video games RPG because I could never find something that let me play as a female character/hero and due to certain personal reasons I never really felt I could actually play someone similar to my romantic preferences.
Fast forward to 2011 and I was in an accident and confined to a wheelchair and had a ton of free time on my hands. So I asked online if anyone knew of a fantasy RPG video game where I could play as a woman who was not simply window dressing and forced to wear skimpy armour. (Ironically in DA games I always choose the skimpy armour! Go Dalish Bikini Armour! It's just the fact that I have the choice)
Someone suggested DAO and well I was so hooked within an hour of playing. I had heard there was romance in the game but I assumed it was all hetro. So when Leliana started flirting with my HoF I was like, "OMG Is she actually coming on to me?" And when the two actually kissed and entered a relationship I was gobbsmacked. I had had no idea that was even possible. Let me tell you that was a pretty magical moment for me and sent me down the DA path I have been on ever since.
Besides the above, I love the lore and mythology of DA. It's just so in depth and deep and mysterious. I am a writer and this is what really hooked me. The writing and time they took to create this massive world of Thedas. It's just beyond anything I had ever expected.
Since finishing DAO and DA2 (while waiting for DAI) I played SO MANY (nearly 20) other fantasy RPG but they all seemed shallow in comparison and I definitely never felt I was the audience they were made for. The only exception to this is W3, which I have not played as I can't play as female, but one of the people in my DA fansite is a huge fan and has got me into the lore. I am hoping they have a game where you can play Ciri or Yennefer or perhaps a new female protagonist.
So for me, the DA games are the only ones that draw me in. I am open to playing others but right now there just isn't out there that appeals to me.
