First of all I want to say that ME2 is a great game. I like it better than ME1, which was a great game, too.

Now on the topic of romances I have to say that I didn't like reduced role of my ME1 LI very much, but I think it was handled well. I was angry at Ashley for reacting the way she did, but I could understand her emotional reaction given the situation. What I liked was that I would get an eMail from her saying "I'm sorry..." and before I started the suicide mission I would to into my quarter and have a look at her picture one last time. This gave the ME1 romance some weight and was a nice touch.

And this is precisely what bothers me with the ME2 romance I've done (Miranda). The buildup of the romance was good, I liked it better than the buildup in ME1, mostly because I could do a personal quest for Miranda. But after I'd gotten all the dialogue options from Miranda she would just say "I'll come by if I have some spare time" and we would wait for the sex-scene. And in the end it felt like this was just about the sex-scene. The 'pursue a romantic relationship with a teammate' achievement felt more like a 'pursue a sexual relationship with a teammate' achievement.

And I think this could have been easily avoided by just a few more lines of dialogue in the end. After we landed on the Collector's station and assigned the teammembers to their respective roles, our Shepard could've asked his LI to stay back for a final 'goodbye'. And after we all returned we could have one small dialogue as well.
I feel this wouldn't have been too much trouble for the devs (or the budget) and would have greatly improved the feeling of the romances.

Does anyone feel the same? Or was it just like this with Miranda?

So is this just like ME1 where it doesn't happen until just before the final mission??? That really sucked.

I don't want to know who exactly, but how many people in ME2 do you have the option to romance? 2 or 3 or more?

My only wish is that the romances had more options. It' like, two conversations, wait for the final battle, initiate sex scene...and that's it. There's nothing more to it. No new dialogue really. Nothing. I wish there were more options. Like buying gifts for your LI, more dialogue once you've initiated a romance, or even something like with Kelly when you eat dinner in your cabin. Hell, maybe even a point where you can choose to bind yourself to your LI so to speak.

Perhaps that's too in-depth for this game, especially since character line-ups change so much. But i'd rather not have the romances feel so shallow and gimmicky. One night stands are a better description of what romances are in this game, to be honest.

Still...i'm glad Tali is a romance option in this game. Something i've wanted since the first, so i'm not entirely disappointed this time around.

Three for each gender, and a fling with Kelly for males and females.

Huh? I got a ton of dialogue from Miranda before her personal quest and then some after that..all together more dialog than with Ashley.

I can see why the option to 'cheat' is so hard. Jacob's hot, and I did flrit with Kelly.....

I don't know too much about Miranda's dialogue. I didn't like her personality, so I only blundered into the first romance conversation due to paragon dialogue choice. Shot her down right away. I was being general though.

Tali, as much as I adore the character, and as much as I liked romancing her, only had two conversations before the "Wait until the final mission." bit. She had a funny comment regarding the sexual encounter after the final mission, but that was it.

My main problem is that there's nothing else after the sex scene, to where it doesn't really feel like your character is in any form of relationship with your LI. It's like a buildup to a one night stand, and that's it.

Hopefully, ME3 will allow former LIs to return provided they didn't die in this one, and you can pursue that relationship further than the fling you get in this one.

You have to be careful that you don't miss dialogue. IIRC they get new dialogue with each mission, however small, not just with big missions like in ME1.

That's exactly what I wrote in my original post. I probaly have written too much :). They should've added some more dialoge right we land on the collector base and assign the team roles. 'Please stay for a moment, Miranda'. And after the others have left, you can have a final goodbye /good luck / take care / whatever.

Hopefully, ME3 will allow former LIs to return provided they didn't die in this one, and you can pursue that relationship further than the fling you get in this one.

I think we will get yet more new LIs in ME3. The ME2 romances were meant to replace the ME1 ones and I think a lot of people are satisfied with that. So we will probably get a mostly new team with more new LIs in ME3.

Nice touch to have the picture of your ME1 romance on your desk in the captain's quarters but why bother if this doesn't even grow in ME2? Honestly I'm a little put off that your romance from ME1 was completely discarded and you are shoehorned into accepting certain situations in ME2 leading to that point. Would have made at least an epic storyline spanning games if you could have taken what was I guess a fling in ME1 and have it grow into something more. I cared little for the romance options in ME2.

I was disappointed that the ME1 LI wasn't promiment in ME2 but liked how they handled it. Think of real soldiers who are on different missions...

I'm sure we'll get new LIs in ME3. I'm also hearing that we might have a chance to rekindle our old romances from ME1. If that's the case, why not for the ME2 romances (Provided they lived.), at least for one of the three for each gender. It seems like a trend where you pick someone new with each installment.  As i've said, it makes it seem like there's little to no impact or reason for it. I'd rather not have a romance option in the game, than have it in it's current form. As it is, it wouldn't matter whether you had a romance option or not, because it won't have that much of an impact on the next game seeing as how LIs tend to not make a reappearance outside of a small cameo. Just my personal opinion though.

Hopefully they give me my Tali back for the third game, or someone just as awesome. Because god help me, if my Shepard has to go back to Ashley, he'll find himself a nice warm Collector pod and lock himself in. That action is much more preferable to preaching and bad poetry. :P

As for the dialogue, I tend to speak to who interests me most. I can't say i've noticed any new dialogue from Tali for example, or any of the others I talk to after almost every mission. Perhaps it's different with Miranda? I'll try giving Miranda a shot to test this next playthrough.

Yes, they said that ME1 LIs weren't included because it is a suicide mission. But that could mean that ME2 characters won't be in ME3...

I havent' maxed out the Tali dialogue yet even though I like her. Maybe she gets less dialogue because you recruit her rather late in the game and already know her from ME1. Some of the Dialogue seemed to be similar to the ME1 dialogue as well.

That's a sad deal for anyone that didn't like the ME1 romances and/or liked the ME2 ones.

Yeah, a bit. To be honest: I liked the Miranda romance. I may try the Tali romance, because I like her character. And while I would love to see my LIs back in ME3 I'll probably be satisfied with a new LI if I get a good one. But I sure hope that they make it less of a sexual achievement and more of a romantic one...which could be done by just some small changes, so there's hope :)

I cared little for the ME2 romance options (Jack had cliche stamped on her forehead and was a completely ridiculous character and Miranda was slightly more tolerable but again, ridiculous character). Tali I regarded as more like a friend and sister. I hope we do have the option to continue ME1 romances.
