Something recently discovered by a user on reddit. One of the ARK ships from the E3 2016 trailer is called "Hyperion:

JUYBfeDR1vWHnt6nq66n_S5v1AvdhirTJKQIToR5

Pointed out in the comments of the post, Hyperion in Greek mythology was one of 12 siblings; Mnemosyne, Tethys, Theia, Phoebe, Rhea, Themis, Oceanus, Hyperion, Coeus, Cronus, Crius, and Iapetus. These are the 12 Titans.

If there are 12 ARK ships, that means there could be one for each of the 12 races from the Milky Way; Asari, Salarian, Turian, Human, Krogan, Quarian, Volus, Hanar, Drell, Elcor, Batarian, Vorcha(/Geth).

Thoughts? Might we actually be bringing all the races from the Milky Way with us? Also, forgive me if this has been posted already on the BSN somewhere!

edit: something I've just found... One of the children of Hyperion is called "Helios". Many of you will probably remember the old leak where it was said we'll be exploring the "Helius" Cluster in Andromeda. Coincidence? I think not.

I also tried linking some of the Milky Way species with traits associated with the 12 Titans:

  • Coeus(Intellect)=Salarians
  • Theia(divine etc)=Asari
  • Themis(Law and order)=Turians
  • Iapetus(Craftsmanship)=Quarians
  • Hyperion is probably humanity
  • Oceanus(oceans)=Hanar
  • Mnemosyne(memory)=Drell
  • Rhea(mountains)=Krogan or perhaps Elcor

I hope all the ships aren't named after titans because that would be silly.

If I'm a salarian or whatever why would I name my ship after some human myth? Don't my people have our own myths and legends?

Maybe the Humans built/paid for most of it?

That's some damn fine sleuthing, but Id expect nothing less from Reddit, lol.

Honestly though, we already know that there are 3 to 4 Ark ships. If there are 12...well, that stretches believability pretty thin for a pre-ME3 ending departure. I mean, that's obviously when they leave, I really don't think there's much to debate about that anymore - I'm just saying, I hope they explain how these things were built in a plausible manner.

The races have to live separately? Well, it doesn't matter, as long as the living condition is equal. Separation but equal.

Isn't Hyperion the titan of space? He was the father of Helios (sun) and Selene (moon) it could just be a nod to that. I dunno my Greek mythology is a bit rusty. Gaia was Earth, Uranus Heaven, Cronos time, etc.

Damn now I want to buy Age of Mythology while it is like 5$ right now on Steam.

Not if Cerberus built the Arks...

Which, less face it...might be what we end up getting.

I'll make sure to sink as soon as possible then. Otherwise I'll enjoy the s***storm on the forum.
The less presence Cerberus and the Reapers have in Andromeda, the better.

What do you mean by "I'll make sure to sink"?

Destroy it. Maybe sink isn't the better term since we're talking about an airship, not a naval ship.
It was a joke anyway. I wouldn't destroy an ark for Cerberus, but I'd remove them.

This just threw a big old kink in that departure window, though.

Three ships was already stretching credibility incredibly thin. Twelve? Yeah, that'd require an incomprehensible amount of resources and secrecy.

Really? If that ship is carrying the asari, I wouldn't complain.

It was ma an exaggeration. I wouldn't kill that many people. I'd remove them from being in charge if they are.

Eh, I still think the departure window is pretty solid. Walters heavily hinted at a pre-ending departure to avoid the endings, Ark ships are shown over an intact Earth, technology is apparently the same including the M-40 Mako which, despite looking fancier, is a model that coexisted with the Hammerhead and original Mako.

If it throws a kink in anything, it's just that (if true) it shows Bioware thinks very little about logic when it comes to their stories.

Which we already knew to begin with. I never had high hopes for Andromeda's story, my expectations are incredibly low, lol. But I think the game will overall kick major ass and I'm stoked about it.

I'm crappy at mythology, but the 12 titans are as follows and their associations:

1 Oceanus (Oceans)

2 Tethys (nourishing water)

3 Coeus (intellect)

4 Cronus (time)

5 Crius (constellations?)

6 Hyperion (light, wisdom and watchfulness)

7 Iapetus (Craftsmanship)

8 Themis (law and undisputed order)

9 Phoebe (moon; prophecy)

10 Mnemosyne (memory)

11 Theia ( divine; goddess; light; beauty)

12 Rhea (mother of gods; mountains)

I tried to match it up with the 12 species, and while some I could get, others I could not, so i'll leave it at this. Please correct any I did wrong if you'd like.

It actually looks like it's called 'Hyperion 1', which suggests that all of the arks (however many there are) are named in the format 'Hyperion #'.

Who cares what lesser creatures think? They should be grateful for getting a ticket.

Could be, Hyperion is pretty popular ship name in sci-fi, if I recall correctly. Otherwise 12 Ark ships can be explained only with Cerberus' "resources", because they obviously had a Star Forge.

Perhaps when they started building them they planned for 12 and therefore chose their naming scheme with that in mind, only to find they weren't going to be able to build all of them?
