It actually looks like it's called 'Hyperion 1', which suggests that all of the arks (however many there are) are named in the format 'Hyperion #'.

I like the idea behind this. I'm mostly curious why all the arts would be sent to the same galaxy. I'll admit my space knowledge is fairly limited so it could totally be a distance thing, but I wouldn't put all my chickens in one basket. Having multiple races on each ark and sending them in different directions would maximize the potential for survival, wouldn't it?

To be fair, the "1" could be either text or a mechanical part of the ship.

To be fair, that text is a number one in the same colors and style of the name. It doesn't even remotely look like a "mechanical part of the ship". ![]()
If there are so many something just have to happen with 1-2. Great plot/quest line. Only several survive and that's the end of their species... The drama. The feels. Loving it
I hope all the ships aren't named after titans because that would be silly.
If I'm a salarian or whatever why would I name my ship after some human myth? Don't my people have our own myths and legends?
Maybe because they like our culture?
(It's not unheard of in science fiction - I mean the Centauri in Babylon 5 like human culture, too...they love our art and trinkets (it's what Londo Molari says in one of the movies)...Hell, Mordin sang Gilbert and Sullivan
(the Major-General's Song, just with a different and more fitting text!)) Or it's the fact that HUMANITY built the arks?
I mean humanity believes Shepard (kind of), the council (unless they re-write that as open denial but covert action - telling the people that Shepard is a loon but building arks (and other contingency plans!) behind the people's backs!) doesn't...I mean David Anderson at least does and the guy is pretty influencial (as is TIM...he sure has some back channels into the Alliance from the time when Cerberus was a black op!)
All this discussing while maybe someone at BW....
''So guys how do we call this ark?''
''Oh I know why not Hyperion? Sounds pretty cool right?
''Sure then hyperion it is''
"How do we call the second ark?"
"I'm out of ideas and it is lunchtime in a couple of minutes."
"OK. How about Hyperion 1 and Hyperion 2?"
"Great."
"Lunchtime!"
I agree that there should be a mixture of races for each Ark for survival reasons.
It would be a wonderful idea if there was more time to build. Three or four is already stretching credibility. I have a feeling I'm going to have to come up with my own head canon to make this project viable.
Edit: Could just be the name of humanities' ark as Hyperion is the 'God of Watchfulness, Wisdom and the Light,' perhaps foreshadowing the colonization of the Helius cluster and bringing 'wisdom and light' to the natives.
Perhaps the Concept for the Ark(s) was started after Sovereign's Assault on the Citadel? That would at least give a few years....
I can't fathom an ARK ship only for Vorcha. I just can't compute that.

Right, but you just downgraded the ships from being called Hyperion to 7, 2, and 9. There's nothing there to differentiate them, besides the numbers.
My theory about the ships is this. They'll take off at the same time, but arrive at different points in time, in different places in the galaxy. After all, we are shooting for a razor's edge on a pinpoint in the night time sky. So, I think the first order of business will be to go after the other ships.
The other Ryder decides that it's not worth it, or that they have all been destroyed in the journey. So, he implements a full on war.
I can link a few...
- Coeus(Intellect)=Salarians
- Theia(divine etc)=Asari
- Themis(Law and order)=Turians
- Iapetus(Craftsmanship)=Quarians
- Hyperion is probably humanity
- Oceanus(oceans)=Hanar
- Mnemosyne(memory)=Drell
- Rhea(mountains)=Krogan or perhaps Elcor
Why am I suddenly reminded of this scene?

There may very well be 12 or more ships, but the surely wouldn't be heading to the same destination.

Except it looks attached to the machinery. Not remotely, but quite plainly. If it's a "1", it's crammed in a very awkward corner.
If there's an ARK for every race and they're all named after human mythological figures I am sticking my hand in a blender.
Hyperion?
Ooh, can Ryder get her own Loader Bot?
Kinda like how the Federation in Star Trek, despite being a multi species alliance, still names all of their ships after human cities, or places, or notable events….
... or maybe it's 4 ships each for 3 of the ME:A species.
If you never questioned why most of the planets and clusters in the Milky Way had names with connections to human mythology and human history, why start with that line of questioning about ME:A? The names are human because IRL, you're human... and it's humans buying the games... who generally like little nods to their own earth-bound histories in their fictional literature. For all we know, it's just a Greek mythological name selected because, you know, Andromeda is a Greek name, Helios is a Greek name, etc.
Vorcha being let on a mission to repopulate a new galaxy?! HAHAHAHAHA... Nobody would want them.
