SMG challenges when you hate SMGs?

So basically, SMG Mastery is the last challenge I need to complete in the Weapons category, but there are two problems: 1) I don't have the Hurricane, and 2) I never use SMGs because I find them weird and terrible, and every other weapon type is preferable to me.

That said, do you guys have suggestions for builds and whatnot that would make using certain SMGs less of a hardship? Here is my incredibly unimpressive manifest, if that makes any difference. I've heard that things like the CSMG are useless below a certain level, so...

Try the Locust on a Turian. Bla bla bla Turian makes guns good bla bla

CSMG is not useless on lower levels, it's just not as effective, slap a piercing and ammo mods (not the heatsink - it doesn't work)

Hornet can be pretty fun on a Turian too, just needs a lot of anti-recoil.

Punisher is not bad, its just not great (you have to hit with it's Armor Piercing round to do any real damage) I use it on my GRAAAAAGHHH Vorchas, but again the Turians  <_<  make it better.

turian/quarian soldier with marksman. ideally with an additional stabilizer. SMG-rail amp of course. some high-damage-ammo.

TSol is the solution to most of your problems ;) makes the BBP, Locust and the Tempest challenges a breeze. GSMG can also go on the Geth Engineer, there was a recent discussion about the merits of such a build in another thread recently. If you like the Destroyer, he is also a fine SMG user.

For the CSMG, I suggest a caster with short cooldowns: as long as you keep firing in short bursts, you shouldn't overheat too often. I loooooooove it on the HSent, but the AA or the HEng (among many others) would be fine possibilites too. Ammo mod is mandatory IMO.

I don't like the Hornet personally, too much clicking, and too little ammo, but if you can look past those shortcomings, the TSol turns it into a decent mid-range weapon.

I tend to complete it multiple times. The Locust, Tempest, and CSMG are good. Geth Plasma SMG is okay, but a bit annoying since it needs to ramp up to give some damage. BPP is okay too, though I find it a bit too short ranged. (I love getting headshots with the Locust for a pretty good distance.)

Don't bother with the 100 kill medals challenge. That takes at least 34 games to complete, assuming you can get 75 kills with an SMG in the first 33 games and then 25 kills in the 34th.

If you're a masochist you can try the Shuriken. Maybe use something like Cryo Blast or Overload or Incinerate on the mooks first and then shoot them.

Tempest is great on the Drell Adept. I'd try that.

Locust is gonna be a bit of a drag, the damage leaves a lot to be desired but it's very accurate for a rapid fire weapon. A weapon class will help.

Shuriken....you're better off throwing it at the enemies.

CSMG you can use with any power class, shoot during cooldown so you don't overheat it.

BPP I like when you can stabilize it, so try to use mods or a Turian, as most people have already suggested.

Having a Hurricane makes this challenge a lot easier, as does higher level CSMG as SMG medals are much easier to come by at that point.

GI is one of the answers. GI with stabilization and APIV ammo turns tempest and locust into headshot machines. You can normally do whole 140K challenges in two gold pugs and sometimes in a single game provided that the pugs are bad enough. The damage output is pretty high even against bosses. As far as I can tell, it usually does better by a wide margin than ... hmm.. let's say acolyte flamer geth trooper, QMI with collector sniper rifle, and similar slightly suboptimal setups. It does not get as good as GI or Tsol with hurricane but otherwise, it works. Stabilization mode is needed to turn these from "pretty good" into "OMFG".

Replace SMG as needed. If need more dakka for faster challenge completion then go with 6B on hunter mode.

You have a maxed Tempest. I'd go with that to get challenges done, it's good even on Gold iirc.

Why nobody say GE??

http://kalence.drupa...23A54363!.F8A.9

Beyond that, it's your choice of Turret or Fitness. Can then swap out SMGs to replace the Tempest. Locust and CSMG don't need recoil system. Sure, it's no GI, but he's still damned good on Gold, even with the Tempest. My last successful Gold solo was with him. My main account takes Turret for more explosions/CC (and has more Cyclonic Mods), alt account takes Fitness to save on Cyclonics.

He's damn solid on Gold. I don't use him on Platinum, because I usually end up in Biotic teams on Platinum, he should still be just as good there there (especially with a Paladin, EDIBot, or Inferno Grenade user for multi-priming).

People say Turians make guns good, so do Geth.

GE just doesn't have that raw DPS output.

Tempest doesn't do much damage.  You want a character with a lot of buffs to weapon damage, or at least ROF and accuracy.

May not want to go with biotics and warp ammo on them because the ammo damage does not count towards the challenge.  This applies to all ammo damage, but primed with WA and IA stacked is probably not a great idea for the challenge.  Use a moderate level AP.

You can get a few extra weapon points running QFI and using Sabotage as long as the weapon is the last thing to damage them before Backfire goes off.

Not with a crappy low level SMG. He needs a decent weapon, because he struggles VS armor. He will kill mooks with overload and headshots easily, but when the big boys come, he needs DPS. And GI is way better in that regard, because of 20% debuff from PM and raw cloak damage.

Yeah, when people look at the GE's damage output, they tend to look only at weapon damage.  They ignore the fact that the GE can do like 4000 damage in a fraction of a second with Overload (more if you actually spec for power damage).  The GE might never equal the GI or some other OP classes in total damage output, and he is weaker against bosses than against mooks, but he is plenty powerful.

EDIT:  I would run the GE with Incendiary Ammo and any SMG on the game in Gold, and I'd do it with confidence.  Except the Shuriken.  F*** the Shuriken.

The problem with the GE is that most of the damage is going to come from Fire Explosions and Overload, which means less weapon points. Personally, if the gun is more or less accurate (Locust in this case) or has a ramp-up (GPSMG), take the GI for the extra damage and aggro drop. If the gun is very inaccurate (Tempest, BPP) take the Tsol, and maybe extra stability if you need it.

FWIW yrael...

I first fell in love with my CSMG at level IV on my FQE.  It's light weight, applies zap ammo like a champ, and her spam-worthy powers serve as excellent ammo consumption interruptions.  She's another great SMG candidate -- along with those already mentioned above.

I'd also like to advocate for the GPSMG on DoT characters.  As long you can sustain ramped-up fire, it shouldn't let you down.  Something like Dark Channel or Inf 'nades followed by GPSMG fire really isn't too shabby.  You've got the right mods for it (ext mag and HVB).

I'm not 100% sure how points work, but you don't need fire explosions and you can get a ton of weapon kills.  Use Overload to strip shields and then aim for the head.  Incendiary Ammo helps by making them do the little fire dance, making a steady stream of headshots easy, which is critical for taking stuff down with water gun SMG's.  Yeah, you will lose out on the points you get from stripping the shields with Overload, but if you're getting the kill with the SMG, I think you will still get plenty of SMG points.

He's still a powerhouse in plat too, although I throw the saber on him. Where do you find these biotic plat teams at? All I usually ever see on xbox are tech or infiltrator teams and a lot of juggs.

If you have the Tempest at level X, it should suffice as a reliable gun on Gold with the right attachments. Hurricane I is also reliable as well. Go with Shuriken if you feel like it, but Shuriken's only good when you have the right kit to use it with.
