Does anybody know of a visual effect that would create a gently bubbling water surface that will cover a tile square-sized area? I.e. similar to random gas bubble emissions from a swamp. (No, not the boiling, frothing water effect in the base assets.) I know it's probably not that difficult to make, but there's no point in re-inventing the wheel if somebody already has made a good working effect. Thanks. ![]()

Nothing? Well okay, time to get busy making one...

No, I don't know of anything matching that description.

Isn't there a slight bubble effect associated with killing something that leaves the remains just below a water surface? No idea how to access it but pretty sure it's there.

I haven't seen that one, but I know I've seen a bubble texture in there. One of the green splash effects uses it, IIRC. I think I just need to use the particle emitter to randomly generate small bubbles across a horizontal surface, as if they just reached the surface, and not give them any velocity or acceleration. I've already got a foamy scum texture for decorating the sides of the pool. Maybe a wisps of steam effect would be good as well?

try out the visual effect of the spell grease. it's black bubbling, but with recoloring it should fit your need.

Yes, that looks like it could work. Thanks.

So you're saying Grease is the word?

Can you share what you come up with? This could be useful for filling jars and containers. ![]()

Mmm, okay. Working from memory here: The grease spell is an AoE that's defined in the vfx_persistent.2da file. That lists a row in visualeffects.2da, which has the name of the .sef file that creates the effect. (I think it was sp_grease or sp_grease2.) I got the effect files, opened them in the toolset's visual effects editor, picked one of the (.pfx?) particle emitter files (there were 2), and started fiddling with the parameters. It was pretty close to what I wanted already, so I just twiddled with fields like the start/end color/alpha settings, particle lifetime and variance, texture animation time, start and end size, spawn rate, emission radius and variance, and the z velocity/acceleration. I tried it in the game, then went back and tweaked things. Not much more than that really.

Since I thought we were talking about a 9m x 9m wide non-boiling effect, I didn't mention the small bubbling cauldron effect I made for the Halloween expansion for BSoCC, but if someone is looking for something to fill a container, that one's ready-made for that purpose.

The animation cycle for the bubble is a little odd. It shrinks toward the end before finally bursting. I ended up just shortening the animation cycle so that shrinkage wouldn't show up.
