With a rogue you can keep paralyzing it. And if you are a mage, you can just attack from a safe distance.

But a warrior? Ohh boy...

It's been over five attempts and whenever I'm this close to killing the ogre, it does the grab move. Every single time.

I'm just tired of getting Cailan'd.

Are you going solo or can the other guys help you?

What weapons are you using and what skills do you have at your disposal?

I try not to use up the potions right away, and as a result all party members die. But that typically only happens when the ogre's HP is at 50%.

I've only got shield bash and the other one that *occasionally* causes a 3 second stun.

My weapons are... not very good. Tier 1 sword and shield.

Use a bow.

The mage should have a weakness spell in his arsenal and if he's high enough level he has paralyze. Even if weakness fails it does slow the Ogre down, so make sure that the mage casts that occasionally. He should also have flame weapons, so try to activate that.

The warrior guy should have a crossbow in his inventory and if I remember correctly he has some bow skills like pinning shot.  (Can't load up the game at the moment to check)

Personally I like to make the warrior who joins equip the bow and make him and the mage do ranged attacks while Alistair and warden hit the Ogre with a stick. Usually the Ogre end up going for the mage, so I take control of him and have him run around, occasionally casting weakness at the Ogre while the others whittle down his health. Not the most noble of approaches, but it can work.

The Orge is one of those fight where you can really empty your inventory. Grenades, bombs, venoms; don't hoard them. You'll have plenty of chances to restock afterwards.

I prefer to have only one person meleeing (/kiting) the Ogre while the others shoot from range. Always works a treat. At least make the guard use the crossbow. If you and Alistair are going at him hand-to-hand then make sure one's in front and the other's behind him to minimise the chances he'll take you both out with the same attack.

This is the Ishal fight I assume?

The way I do it is that whichever party member has aggro just runs around the room with the ogre chasing while the others attack.  The two npcs will be on ranged weapons.  Alistair can be on his sword and shield, so basically the aggro usually alternates between the Warden and Alistair.  Seems others are recommending something like this too.

I wouldn't expect to rely on stuns this early.  Shield Pummel is a phys resistance check v your strength.  Rogues have it easier with the non-check of Dirty Fighting or the cunning check of Riposte.  On SnS probably need Concentrated Deathroot and Swift Salve to get a decent stun or two v ogres and even then it isn't nearly as reliable as DW since it cannot approach the same attack speed and stun / paralyze chance.

I did it with my human warrior, Alistair and Dog. The Mage would cast Paralyse first then everyone would attack it in melee. Paralyse can be resisted, however, and I failed quite a few times as a result. Setting Alistair to use Shield Bash if an ally is grabbed is also a smart tactic.

Thank you, guys. Ranged attacks and keeping the team's mage and archer in different spots to divide the ogre's attention/keep them safe did work.

And I didn't mention this before, but one extra challenge was that having my Warden deliver the finishing blow is an absolute must for me. That is, to have that registered in combat accomplishments.

Besides, that killing animation is epic and beyond satisfying after all this struggle. It is one thing I miss in DAI.

My PC is frequently a rogue.  I generally have him/her and those unsung heroes -- Tower Guard and Circle Mage -- do ranged attacks to wear the ogre down as he chases after Alistair.  Then when he's close to death, I'll have rogue go duel wield to give the coup de grace.

And yes, you're right, DAI does lack those wonderful finishing moves.  For that and many other reasons, DAO is still the better game despite DAI's graphics.
