Had a quick look and saw nothing recent about this class.  I just unlocked it as my 17th class and have seen how it is a big support role with a particular build.   Any advice and or links to good guides?  I usually just mess around with things until i find what works, but appreciate others hard won insight..

Thanks in advance

I remember experimenting a lot with the Saarebas on the release weekend. My advice is to go either full support, full CC, or full DPS (with the belt) / boss killer. Anything in between won't be as efficient. Just my 2 cents :)

(You can always try a solo build, I have a guide here for low promotion players only: https://forum.biowar...s-barrier-less/ for soloing Nightmare, but this build doesn't synergize well with team play. It may also not be the best build available (not even close), I advise you to check Drasca's as well)

To start use leap, upgraded barrier, speed ring and foot glyphs. When you get better gear and promotions, start mixing in some crowd control or damage. Eventually, the damage you can deal will surpass the extra damage your group gains from the buffs. Then start running a hybrid build with lightning or fire.

Level 1 is always tough, my advice would be run a solo or pug threatening, get your highest damage staff and have some HoK, or use Yavanalis staff for guard on hit. Clear the map or at least a couple zones, once you get barrier, you can be very useful to groups. My favorite build goes like this:

1st focus on Ability Points: Saar-Taar's Shield, no need to upgrade yet unless you are running nightmare, you would need the upgrade to survive rogue ambushes that knock out your barrier. Remember that Asaari's Leap will get you out of knockdown or stunned status.

2nd: Straight down to Rings of Asaanranda, grab the upgrade, now parties will love you forever with attack speed buffs, especially reavers, and mages love the casting/attack speed. Rogues are just silly when they have BB proc plus lightning ring

3rd: Hop over to right Skill Tree, I now go for Athlok Burst and equip the inferno pact belt. No need to upgrade Burst as you will not be using the finishing stance, only the Opening stance for fire damage and an occasional 2nd stance if you want to drag all the baddies to you for a crazy burst damage. You could upgrade it and use the finishing stance ability to freeze enemies dragged to you, then follow immediately with a fire burst.

So That takes 10 points, so you would have to be level 11 in this build and have an inferno pact belt for the crazy fire damage. Heart of Pride staff makes the Saarebas incredibly easy to play, as your transition in between attacks and abilities becomes much more seamless. So although playing this way is a bit gear dependant, it is tons of fun and allows you to stay in the middle of combat while aiding allies and blowing up baddies....my fav.

Since you will have plenty more points to spend after a round or two on this build, there are great passives to aim for. If looking to play Nightmare and maintain this play style, you will need to go for the left tree immunity to effects in flow stance, and right tree immunity to finishing stance effects. Essentially you will now have PI, except you always still have Asaari's Leap (if upgraded I think? I actually thought you don't need to upgrade it to free yourself from knockdowns but looked at the ability chart) to get out of status effects.

Damage bonus: Power of the Dead Rocks.

Try some builds yourself, this is the one character I see played in so many different ways its mind boggling, possibilities are almost endless. Most important thing is to get used to the rhythm of the abilites, don't rely on looking on the bottom right to see how much mana is charged to determine stance, watch and listen to the Saarebas and you'll get it more accurately, that circle doesn't respond properly or on time I should say.
