I can never rank higher than second or third no matter how hard I try.

I've maxed out all my weapons except like three or four. I ave Hurricane X, Reegar Carbine X, and Black Widow X. And I've clocked hundreds of hours. I mean.... it's truly a clinical issue.

And yet I've never been able to champion at the top of most PUGs. There is always someone better than me in every game... I mean of course, in maybe 10% of games I come out on top.

Do people score so high by nuking spawns? Is that what they do?

In my defense I'm not horrible. I mean I play gold and platinum and I don't go down as much as other people any more if I equip the good stuff, and I usually score second or third. But yeah, it's still kind of sad.

I have never been an efficient killer, but a few tips I got from others helped me score better:

1) Realize that any moment not damaging the enemy is an opportunity wasted. Position yourself overlooking a spawn point at the beginning of each wave and get shooting/casting as quickly as possible. Listen carefully for enemies so you don't wind up running around not finding anything to kill. Seek them out instead of waiting for them to come to you.

2) Aim for the head. I'm not great at this, but if you can kill even 20% faster by getting the occasional headshot it's worth it.

3) Kill mooks instead of wasting time wearing down that atlas that someone else is going to snipe at the last second.

There are less savory ways to increase your score as well, such as overwriting others' primed enemies with your own primer so you get the credit when they detonate, etc., but I don't think they're necessary. Also, douchebaggery isn't fun.

This is good, in particular I'm usually so stressed out I don't aim for the head.

I'm not particularly good at headshoting, and  did see a drop in score initially when I  switched from mostly body shots to head shots, but eventually it paid off.

I don't usually reload cancel, but that will also up your killing efficiency if you don't do it already.

Also, a thing I personally encounter a lot in pugs is that one guy who shows up with a CP score in the hundreds of thousands and just demolishes everything. So yeah, not gonna be easy outscoring him.

OP, I am fairly sure I played a game with you a few days ago. You were a TGI with Javelin iirc, I seem to recall I was some sort of Infiltrator too, perhaps QFI with Indra? This was on dagger hazard. We came in first and second, and I did not nuke spawns  :)

As far as that match was concerned, I was the host, using geth scanner (huge help on that map), with a pretty strong kit-weapon combo. My feeling was that you were playing a more defensively oriented game, preferring to pick safe spots over going aggressively for kills? If that's the case, I would suggest watching some videos of good gold solos, as you might discover some good RHA/shooting places you didn't think of, or some good routes around the map - I certainly discovered a lot of useful cover I had dismissed at first!

Getting a feel for likely spawn points will undoubtedly help too.

For what is worth, I remember our match because I thought you were a very good player! You picked your targets well, conserved your resources, played objective waves really well, stuck with the team, went in for revives, and generally put teamplay over your own score :) nothing wrong in wanting to score higher of course! But IMO you are a very good job player already :)

Hei, now, I resent that! :P

Actually, I am a fairly defensive-minded, slow player myself; if I end up demolishing everything by myself, it's usually a bad sign as far as the rest of the team is concerned

holy sh- you identified me! This is the most exciting post I have ever seen!!  :o

It is true, I try to be defensive so I don't die and enjoy revives mostly. Thank you for the advice. I don't remember the match but I am sure you were amazing.

No, but it twists and tears apart matter at the molecular level. I think that means that it does hurt. A lot.

I need to teach my phone the ways of BSN. Or maybe my autocorrect is speaking the truth :P No alcohol makes you play better. True story.

In all seriousness, nuking wave eleven is common practice in PUGland. Unfortunately, however, they just make themselves look stupid when it doesn't work and you notice they are still in last place. I would not worry if you meet PUGs who spawn nuke for no reason. You can take the moral victory.

Or you could join the Penguin Squad (coming soon) and eat the stupid humans.

Assists rack up a significant portion of your final score. And what Shinobu said about chasing down the little guys. Four marauders have more point value than two banshees (provided you take them down all by yourself). Far easier to deal with as well. Most boss units are built for distraction forcing you to take your eyes off the real prize - grunts. Leave the screamers and other big scary stuff for last unless you're packing a lot of DPS and know how to use it.

Yea - go engineer. Vanilla female. Electra build. Maximum zap. You don't want to waste all the zap for a meagre Banshee. Don't forget Drone, it mass zaps while you don't even look. Sometimes I just linger behind a wall and listen to their painful cries.
