The theme for this month's challenge: "It came from Outer Space!":

It came from Outer Space!: Outer Space, be it Mystic Spelljammer or Soft/Hard Science, including creatures, craft, destinations and discoveries.

This theme was suggested by Carcerian.

Guidelines:
  • It must be fully working in game.
  • Use of vanilla NWN or publicly available texture is fine.  Just remember that NWN textures must have dimensions in powers of 2 (2, 4, 8, 16, 32, etc.).
  • Teamwork is welcome.
  • Beginners most welcome. Don't be afraid, just try, you'll be surprised!
  • "Custom Content" includes many sorts of things: models, scripts, prefabs (areas, items, creatures, conversations, quests, etc.), sounds, portraits, or anything else new for the game.
  • All submissions must be finished, working, and emailed to NWNCCCMakers@gmail.com (or a non-Vault link provided) by August 1st, 2016. Sooner than that is perfectly fine too. ;-)
  •

Somethings you could include in the download/email that would make packaging everything up easier and faster:
  • 2da lines needed.
  • Screenshot from in game for use on the vault page (this also gives me hints on how to display the new goodie). Formats: .bmp, .jpg, .png, or .tga
  • Portraits (if needed) of your new goodie. Placeables and monsters should include a portrait.
  • Inventory icons (if needed) of your new goodie.
  • Any credits you would like listed.
  • If this is your first entry, please tell me what name you would like your work listed under and provide a link to your other NWN content if you want that displayed as well (the link bit is totally optional).
  • Also if you would like an invite to the CC Makers group, send Rolo Kipp a friend invite. The group is nothing spectacular, mostly just documentation on 2da lines.
  •
Remember, the Challenge is all about fun, sharing, creativity, and surprise!

This thread is for all sorts of discussion about this month's theme: ideas for things to make, questions/concerns, announcement of what you intend to make, screenshots of work in progress and/or finished projects.

If you want to discuss the Monthly Custom Content Challenge idea as a whole or wish to submit ideas/themes for future monthly Challenges, please post in its thread here

When submitting a new theme, please provide a title and short summary of the theme.

If you have a technical question about some custom content creation, please create a separate thread so that the answers can be found later by anyone, not just people interested in this Challenge.

    We'll try to help!

Have no fear and join the fun!

    And finally, you can:

    Submit theme suggestions.
    Vote for August's theme.
    Email content to: NWNCCCMakers@gmail.com

I'm making some (animated) placeable planets. I'll start with the solar system and then move on to some fictional ones. This is what I have so far.

I'm using two layers, one for the ground and one for the cloud cover. I'm working on getting a slight glow to them, maybe by using an emitter. I'll also need to figure out how to use txi's in order to get the bump maps to nwn.

For earth I'm using texture from NASA visible earth. For the rest  of the solar system I'm using textures from here and there are some nice texture for fictional planets here.

Wouldn't it be great if someone did something inspired by "The Colour Out of Space" by H.P. Lovecraft? One can hope...!

Alien mind controling parasite Slugs/Worms, crossbreed with chestbuster.

Already have some of their victims (male).

Going to do some female victims and Slugs/Worms themselves.

    wrmg4x.jpg

Also gonna do some meteorites. How else would they got to the earth?

I instantly think of doing Giger's ALIEN... Oh, yes, I've already done practically EVERYTHING relating to ALIEN, and the remaining improvements and additions will be going into the pile with the rest of the PHoD ALIEN stuff. Damn... What to do that I haven't already done? AAH! Since I did Verne for the CCC (the Nautilus), I might as well do Wells as well!

"No one would have believed, in the last years of the nineteenth century, that human affairs were being watched keenly and closely by a Demented Shabby Hyena; that as men busied themselves about their affairs they were scrutinized and studied in an obviously mad way...

Across the gulf of space, the Hyena Weirdo, his intellect vast (howls of derisive laughter) and cool and unsympathetic, regarded this Earth with envious eyes, and slowly and surely drew his plans against us..."

    WOTW1.jpg

Started with a Martian Fighting Machine... WIP, obviously, still needs hitting with lots of colossal bricks... not to mention a bit of texturing...

Reading the book again as I fiddle with gmax; Plan to include Martian Fighting Machine, landed Cylinder, the tentacled-blob Martians themselves, possibly Red Weed and a Handling Machine (hell on polycounts, though, the Handling Machines)... Wells never really describes the Martian Flying Machines in the book, so that'd be a complete shot in the dark, really, design-wise... Not that the Giant Tripods are described in complete, precise detail, so I'm having to put my version of the Fighting Machines together bit by bit and fill in with some guesswork.

There is an open source space simulation program that comes with a large assortment of celestial objects called Celestia. Not having checked, I don't know if the material that comes with it is easily convertible. However. there is a related site that has loads of add-ons for it in 3ds format (amongst other formats). This site has models and textures for asteroids, planets, moons, whole star systems and space craft. These come in two flavours fictional and non-fictional (star wars, star trek, babylon 5, ringworld, etc.). The site is called the Celestia Motherload and anyone requiring textures or models should really take a look. All the works on this site are supposed to be freely available for non-commercial use - to quote their legal page -

We believe that all files on CM, including their contents, are freely distributable for NON-commercial use.

OK, now for a grovel. Please, please, please could someone make a vfx for this ccc. What I would like certainly falls within this category. As a recent submission to the vault illustrates, I am a big fan of the Dragon Riders of Pern series of books. What I would like someone to have a go at is the silvery threads that periodically fall out of the skies of Pern. This inimical organism comes from space to devastate the planet every 250 years (approx.).

So anyone up to the challenge?

I am TOTALLY DOWN for this, as you may have guessed by the terrible Martian I put out a while back. Still gotta go back for a round two on that guy...

I'll come up with ideas, I'm sure. There's a few odd ones brewing

That model needs the tripod alien sound effect for when it attacks puny player characters.

I think I'm going to have to do something about it.

Progress: Mars and Earth with a nice glow. Still needs some tweaking as I can't get it centered properly.

    ObdELiL.png

The inner planets will be to scale to each other, as will the outer planets (to each other). However, inner and outer planets will not... neither will the sun (obviously). In case you're wondering: Earth has a diameter of 5.

There is also a small spaceship orbiting earth, but it's kinda hard to see and I don't know if I can get it finished. I thought of adding it as a creature and adding it as polymorph type. That way one could easily create a nice space travel map.

Suggestion: What about a meteor crater as placeable or a tileset addition for the desert tileset or any other....

Martian from the movie "War of the Worlds 1953". It have been made from a free model from sharecg.com:

    http://www.sharecg.c...owPoly+Textures

It's an amazing design for an alien being, especially considering that it was made in the 50s. The model includes three emiters at the three lenses eye; However I'm not completely happy about how they looks in game, so probably I'll release a version without emiters, too. It use as supermodel the animations of "Secundus" from the "CODI Content Package":
    http://neverwinterva...content-package

Mele combat animations are not especially good so I recomend to give them some psionic attack or something like that. The creature can't hold weapons or shields, I don't think that it would work well with their bizarre anatomy....

A meteor crater add-on for the desert tileset would be quite useful. Lovecraft's 'The Shadow Out Of Time' which starts off in the Great Sandy Desert of Australia comes to mind.

@Shemsu any chance of a simple variation. If I remember (at least from Jeff Wayne's version) correctly, the Martians are supposed to be as large as a bear. If that is so, any chance of a version twice the height of the ones you already have made?

I think that martians were shorter than humans in the 50s movie, But there is a long time since I watched the movie. Also I have use this picture as a reference for their size:

    cf7db0a6cebe147196092b7ce300b4e0.jpg

However I could try to make a biger version if you wish so....

Jeff Wayne's martians are a different thing from the 50s movie one

They're probably more like the traditional depiction, either the lumpy octo-brainthings or the Japanese octopusish thing

I beleive Jeff Wayne actually drew on the book as his musical version is set in Victorian/Edwardian England. Herbert George Wells actually wrote it as a commentary on the British Empire (more specifically India).

And now, from the glory days of shiny 1950s Pulp Science Fiction - when three-hundred ton Rocketships could land on their pathetically thin stabilizer fins without instantly crumpling them into scrap metal, the Shabby Hyena Idiot brings you...

    Rocket1.jpg

Continuing his perceived trend of creating Completely Useless CC for NWN that's of absolutely no use whatsoever to anybody at all, PLUSH HYENA of DOOM of the FUTURE brings you the Astounding Wonder of Thrilling Marvel of the Amazing Startling Big Daft Rocketship of Heinous Unrealisticness!

    Rocket2.jpg

How was it that these fully functional intergalactic craft could be easily manufactured by any old absent-minded boffin in his garden shed, aided only by his ludicrously busty daughter, Fido the Dog and Flash Daring, the square-jawed, rugged hero who would unfailingly blunder into the matter inadvertently just as Professor Mental is testing the rocket engines... and everyone's away to thrilling adventure and gripping exploits on Loonyworld before returning safely back to Normalton, Earth... instead of just exploding instantly on take off, which would seem the more likely occurrence.

Especially when the damn fool designer puts the entry hatch directly between the Megatronic Ultramatic Engines (of Doom) in blatant contravention of innumerable health and safety protocols that obviously just aren't observed in the garden sheds of the future...

    Rocket3.jpg

Incidentally, not only do those engine outlets glow, the fiery mass stuffed pointlessly up them actually wobbles by way of the not at all amazing super science marvel of slapping the old BioWare lava texture from the Dungeon Tileset on them... so don't blame me if you're using some bizarre lava override on the Dungeon and the Rocketship explodes in a startling thrilling futuristic explodomatic whassname thing.

(PS:- Sorry; I just thought of stupid rocketships and thus instantly had to build one... Gigantic Martian Tripod Death Machines are still on the way!)

Tarot:- Surely you jest? I already did the Nostromo, more or less. It's in my second gigantic ALIEN Hak on the Vault... and I already did a whacking great UFO Flying Saucer thing in amongst all that Futuristic Sci-Fi drivel I piled on the Vault before I left for remote, uncharted forests...

    PHoDufos.jpg

Rubbish Evidence of previous UFOs and Nostromo activities... (See whatever pages they were on - I forget -  of the PHoD Things and ALIEN threads if you don't believe me...

(PS:- If I remember correctly from when I looked it over a year or two back, most of the stuff on Celestia is way too high-poly for NWN - unfortunately!

    Nostromo.jpg

CaveGnome:- I already did the Skyboxes... Oh... Damn, no, you're right - I haven't already put them on the Vault... But have no fear, they are currently being stuffed into an enormous crate of floaty, airy things marked "PHoD Weirdo Skyboxes" and will be on the Vault VERY SOON.
