Hello everyone.

Since I'm not sure if a cliffhanger is appropriate word for my questions, I'll first try to explain what I mean.

ME1 was a fresh start for the series, it had its own fleshed out story and characters and could easily stand as its own game even without the sequels. ME2 was more or less an indirect sequel since it had a new set of characters and a new storyline, despite the ending which obviously was a hint at the sequel, but if it wasn't for this it could easily stand as its own game just like ME1. On the other hand, ME3 in terms of missions and narrative spent much of its time focusing on tying up loose ends from both previous games (mainly ME2) and had an unsatisfying ending which left even more loose ends and left much for the player's imagination, because of which it couldn't stand out as it's own game (but it was still generally a good game IMO).

So, my question is, would you prefer if Andromeda was more in line with ME1 by the end of which nearly everything will be resolved so a sequel can start "fresh" OR ME2 style where the ending would point at sequel but would leave many loose ends to be resolved by a sequel?

Sorry if similar thread already exists.

I'd like them to take the same approach as Dragon Age - to have storylines and characters continue in the next game, but for it not to be a direct sequel.

A trilogy puts too much pressure on the final game being amazing and wrapping it all up perfectly.  With ME2 the story dragged and lost it's way.  At least with the DA formula if one game is bad the next isn't too hindered by it.

Need to complete a story.

Can have a teaser for where the story might go next.

Like Mass Effect (1) yes.

Not like Part 1 of any other multi-part movie.

I'd like a mix of the ME1 and ME2 style. Make sure it feels complete and stands on it's own, but leave some things unresolved for future titles.

Favourite ending of the trilogy has gotta be ME1. It felt whole and deserved, didn't leave me staring at the screen with a million questions. ME2 was okay. I always thought that a trilogy is still meant to be three complete stories, obviously there needs to be threads between them; but it shouldn't read like a story dissected into parts. Cliff hangers tend to leave that feeling. A series should be able to keep your attention without baiting you along with unanswered questions, y'know?

So.. to answer the question, I'd prefer a Mass Effect 1 style ending. It was well resolved, but clearly open to sequels with the Reaper threat discovered. Don't know if Andromeda will have its own trilogy yet, but I'd like this approach either way.

If they are planning future MEA's,  ala the original ME games,  than they better have an idea where they are going.  The world is incapable of handling another ME3 ending.

do not want an ending like DAI original ending.  Ending from trespasser dlc was fine.

No cliffhangers but I do want a Ryder trilogy.

Yes please! One of my favorite things in the ME series is how invested I became in my Shep over the course of multiple games. My hope is Ryder remains the central PC through multiple games (trilogies have a nice ring to em) and I feel that my investment in the ME universe would start to wane without "my" character persisting throughout. Still kind of struggling to move on from my Shepard lol but here's hoping we get something as, if not more, immersive with our Ryders :)

The problem with BW's games is planning and continuity. The ME trilogy was not planned at all and nobody at BW cared about continuity. Because BW knows this there are many cliffhangers in their stories which allow them to rationalize any story that require a fight.

"Sovereign said something about harvesting. How does that work exactly?"

"True. That's a problem. Reapers don't look like harvesters and I don't see how they can use tools."

"We introduce some new species that harvest the civilizations."

"Cool. And they'll build reapers that look like the harvested species."

"Oh! A giant human robot. The fans will love that!"

"Hang on. I know that someone wrote a codex about "collectors". That will do the trick."

"How about the next title? Those reapers still need to be defeated somehow."

"Crap. We made those guys too strong."

"Not sure, but dark energy sounds very sci-fi. Scientists mention it a lot these days."

"Ah. Yes. Tech. Let Tali handle that."

"Lunchtime!"

Didn't they say MEA will be the first chapter of a new trilogy? If so, expect some loose ends at Andromeda's conclusion to be handled in the next game.

If they're not sure yet whether they're going to make another trilogy they might leave the ending ambiguous enough to continue. I wouldn't mind. I'd love another trilogy. They learned plenty from that experience, and while I love the DA franchise as well, I never was invested in my characters as much as in Shepard, because each game features a new protag. A trilogy with the same character is an amazing ride, to see all your choices play out and watch your character grow... one of the main reasons these games have become my favourite overall.

I'm quite curious if it's going to be another trilogy. As a standalone game, I hope for various different endings all neatly tied up, good, bad, neutral, ALL THE ENDINGS :)

I want another trilogy. I want to connect with Ryder and Co. Like I did with Shepard and Co. Dragon Age has never given me the same feeling. I don't care as much about half the Dragon Age companions, whereas I care about all of the Mass Effect ones (except Jacob - I don't care for him).

Another trilogy and I will be happy.

Yeah, I'd rather not have a huge story-arc throghout an Andromeda Trilogy (if that's what we're getting).

Import our Ryder through the games and have the same characters etc, but have a different main plot. Perhaps have a more mysterious, foreshadowing trilogy-arc that is only hinted at in the first 2 games and not central to the plot and then is fully developed in the third (similar to how dark energy was supposed to go in ME3).

I get the feeling if they do sequels they'll follow the Ryder family, i.e., you'll play a descendant.

I'd like games that follow separate characters with each installment.  The Shepard trilogy showed that you could not follow every story strand over multiple games without someone getting unhappy about it (e.g. people who got unhappy about the ME1 LI having a small cameo in ME2, yet Liara getting a whole DLC dedicated to her).  It would be better if every ME game were it's own self-contained story, with a shared galaxy between them.

The problem I had with the ME trilogy is investing so much time with the development of your "Shepard" how you felt he/she should go just to have an ignominious end, I don't mind if the story has the same protagonist, just don't destroy our "Ryder" with some heart breaking ending that leaves you with an empty void.

DA series you had old characters returning but your own main was different each game, your invested more in the story then what your character will do in next one.

I guess ME1?

BW should plan where they want to take the story to. This was THE problem in the trilogy. Also, ME2 didn't advance the story and opened new plotholes so they should avoid that. It felt like a spin off rather as a part of a trilogy.

ME3 endings (although I liked them) should be avoided because they are very different from each other and very hard if not impossible to implement, that is why we go to Andromeda in first place.

Don't want them, i like it if a story is complete, if there is a new problem, then introduce it as a prologue in the next game. Don't need to rise unnecessary expectation than make a sequel that is storywise a let down (ME2).

At the end of the ME:A we won't solve all the problems that MW species or just humans are facing right now. Leave some breadcrumbs along the playthrough. Maybe some mayor hint at the end of the game, about what higher-ups are planing or trying to solve next (better if there are more than one problem mentioned). Cliffhanger is not needed.

If Andromeda will be a new trilogy and they want to make a cliffhanger ending that's fine, but the cliffhanger needs to be well done and the game must have a satisfying ending.

Even if the plot of ME2 kinda sucks, the cliffhanger was well done, got me super excited for ME3 and was epic.

Please give us a new trilogy.

I'd like it to be more like ME1. I mean if it's a trilogy I'd obviously like it to have one big overarching story, but having a story or something in each game that I can wrap up and feel satisfied about in addition would be great.

Or it could be like a soap. Really dramatic and ending at the worst moments.
