In hindsight, Do you think Hawke would of made for a better story as inqusitor?

No, I never liked Hawke so he would have made the game significantly worse for me. Inquisitor was perfect, "just what we needed." Also, Hawke is human, and arguably the dalish Inquisitor has the best story with so much relevations about the ancients elves, the evanuris, Solas & his romance, Well of Sorrows, etc... I would change nothing!

I've just been thinking recently....why was Hawke even in Inquisition? To tell everyone about Cory? Why? Varric was there, and he already told Cass what happened during his interrogation. What more does Hawke add to the story? Just seems like a way to force a choice on who to leave in the Fade, nothing more.
Not a Hawke hater btw, and I like DA2 for the most part.

I think the whole point of Hawke was that he subverted the traditional fantasy epic, and DA2 is very much an anti-Origins game, in the same way MGS2 is an anti metal-gear game. This was a story not of how a hero emerged when he was needed and saved the world. This was a story all about how a hero emerged, but was not enough to stop disaster. That the world is more complex than DAO's - not every threat is the darkspawn, not every threat can just be beaten by a last alliance of men and elves, some threats require mediation, politics, talking to people - and even then, it may be impossible to reach a compromise.
Hawke had his/her chance to ensure peace, and Hawke failed. I don't even know why they wanted Hawke to be inquisitor. Kirkwall was an unmitigated disaster and the spark that lit the powder keg was one of Hawkes friends/associates/lovers. Sure, he/she killed/made peace with the Arishok, but that conflict was also caused by one of Hawkes friends/associates/lovers, and beyond that Hawke never really did anything that was that major in securing peace in Kirkwall other than being rich and somewhat well-liked. A better choice for inquisitor would have been Cassandra, Vivienne, Alistair (if he's not a drunk), Loghain (if he's still alive), the warden, hell, even side characters like Nathanial Howe or Sebastian Vael would be decent enough choices in a world where our inquisitors don't exist.
What hurt DA2 was how it really felt like 2 acts of a 3 act story. It felt unfinished. We never really got to finish Hawke's story, at least not while we were in control of his/her actions, so it makes sense that people wanted that in Inquisition. But, for me, I'd have preferred if they'd done a DLC chapter.
While it would have been nice to have a game where we got to continue our story, teaming up with our bro/sis again, and our LIs, I think BW do tend to go too far towards fanservice in that regard. I want to see new characters, new places, new people. It's one of the reasons I prefer DA to ME.
Quite a few fans were disappointed that multiple races and origins weren't in DA2, so I think in that regard having that choice again was a good idea. Also, having to play as Hawke again would have hurt the new player experience somewhat, though I don't think that's the most important factor in this case.

Hawke was there because we needed to see some sort of end to his/her story, and because if he didn't appear in DAI then he may as well have not existed. Also, he gave a link to the Grey Wardens (not sure how he knows Loghain or Alistair, though) which was a major plot point.
He did kill Corypheus, which makes him someone you'd want around when you have to kill him again.
But mostly because BW knew we'd want to see our old protagonists again.

I wasn't aware DA existed during the fan drama fire following DA2. But plot wise, I agree, it made little sense to call on Hawke to what came down to being a side kick for a Warden quest. Hawke doesn't know anything about Corypheus except a bit how he was locked up by Dad (The Wardens knew this already.) And that she fought him once before. But the discussion never turns to battle tactics regarding Cory. So. The one thing she is expert at (Killing Cory) isn't discussed and is information Varric also has. So, tying into my beginning, I feel it was just to tie up Hawke loose ends to make fans happy.
However, off into the sunset to do his/her own thing seemed good enough. Same for the Warden. Hawke also doesn't resolve the Mage Templar problem.
It'd be pretty bad if Hawke being present was just to make a choice between strangers become more personal. Stroud 1 vs Stroud 2 wouldn't have hurt anyone.
