Greetings,

I was playing the game and while I was trying to understand the characters better, something occurred to me and that is this:- Cassandra's everyday life is not properly explored very much.

By this I mean we do not actually know what Cassandra does outside of fighting and being a Seeker very much.

By contrast, Cullen spends his free time playing chess, Dorian spends his free time getting drunk by smuggling drinks from the cellar, Blackwall spends his free time making wooden carvings, Solas spends his free time drawing, Iron Bull spends his free time f*cking around or with the Bulls' Chargers or drinking, Sera spends her free time pranking people, Varric plays card games, Cole spends his free time being Cole, etc.

Sure we know Cassandra reads smutty literature and that is something that is interesting and adorable about her but I don't think she does that all the time. I am sure she also prays and trains but that's not the same as, well, having a hobby like painting (Solas) or wood carving (Blackwall) or chess (Cullen) or playing cards (Varric).

So what do you think Cassandra does in her free time ?

Have a nice day and cheers.

Don't want to spoil your topic, but I don't think we know much less of what Cassandra does on her spare time than any of the other companions. As you pointed out, she likes to read, and Cullen plays chess and so on. The other companions' hobbies are just about as engaging as hers, keeping her as much preoccupied as them. So I don't see any real difference between them.

If you want to fantasize about what she does "more than read", it's fine; go ahead. But why only her?

She read and exercise. (I guess, sometimes praying, but I do not think more than Cullen.) This is no less than what the others do in their free times

She will play cards if asked; she was in the party with Varric with some of my Inquisitors (I think if her approval is high enough).    Reading is also a hobby and considering how physical her day job is, chilling out with a book probably is how she likes to relax.

I think it's telling that sooo many of her cutscenes take place while she's in the training yard, whacking the crap out of the dummies. I picture her as someone who spends what little free time she has... training. Praying. Focusing. Like Cullen, she's a bit of a workaholic. He plays chess, she reads.

But I don't think it's too hard to imagine what she'd like to do if she had more free time or the world was less in peril. In her romance quest, she desires beautiful things - things that are far removed from her work. Candles and poetry and all that. So I can see her liking long walks, appreciating beautiful vistas, secretly being a nature nerd in full plate. :P

So, uh. Hiking? Vacationing? That's it, you should definitely take her on a vacation. Preferably to Antiva or somewhere similarly romantic. Just mind the assassins.

She visits Chantries and meets with various Chantry officials. There is a sister in Crestwood who knows her. I think the one in Val Royeaux does as well (the one you can give the elven record of Red Crossing to). I'm sure she also oversees some of the daily activities of the Inquisiton. She probably gets reports from Cullen, who believes he will become useless due to lyrium withdrawl, in which case Cassandra would have to take over his role. She probably also reads information that Leliana receives, if it's relevant to her or the Seekers or the Chantry. Before her personal quest at Caer Oswin, she was actively looking for other Seekers with the help of Leliana's spies.

Well, if you get her approval low enough, she gets staggeringly drunk.

I don't know why you consider reading less of a hobby than painting, carving and chess. Yeah she would do other things as well but same is true for all the other characters.

But later during the talk before the final battle she apologizes for that and says she never drinks.

Cassandra probably has very little free time as is. She is a Seeker. She is... the Right Hand(?) of the Divine. She needs to spend a lot of time training and staying ready for anything. Her free time likely consists of a day every two weeks or so. In that time, she will probably spend it reading.

Cassandra is a driven, highly mission-oriented soul. I suspect she's also a perfectionist, and obsessively punctual. She doubtless considers her enjoyment of Varric's fiction a personal flaw, and is obviously somewhat ashamed that she enjoys it. This kind of individual will not permit much else in her life beyond activities associated with her duty. Cassandra, of course, does have a softer, romantic side, but it's one she will do her utmost to repress.

I quite admire Cassandra, but if I knew her in real life I'd avoid her at all costs. In her mind, she will always be right, while everyone else is wrong. And she will always judge harshly those who don't live up to her unrealistic standards.

I think you are onto something. Not so much about spare time, I agree with @Fiskrens that she isn't that far behind any of the other Inner Circle in what is revealed, give or take.

But what about her command duties and her role in the Inquisition? I mean, she's the Right Hand of the Divine. She faces off with Roderick in the prologue and countermands his orders. She's the one that slams down the Divine's writ to kick off the new Inquisition. She's the one that argues, "What choice do we have?" in Haven. She pushes and prods the other members of the Inner Circle in Haven. Then, in Skyhold, she's the one that walks the Herald up the stairs to become Inquisitor.

After that, nothing. It's like she retires from the whole situation. She trains and reads smutty literature, worries about the future of the Templars, Seekers and whether or not to be Divine, but what does she do for the Inquisition? Cullen is commander of armed forces, Leliana is spymaster, Josie is diplomat, but what about Cass?

Leliana makes a big deal about losing her way as the Left Hand, but what about the Right? The Right seems to figure her job is done getting the Inquisition started, let the rest sort it out?

EDIT: I forgot one thing she does do. She elects herself Archivist. She writes down what the Inquisition does.

Stabs books.

Pretty sure that's what Cassandra calls reading.

Or Varric?

I've got nothing.

How bout she collects/purchases delicate materials like lace&silks and hand sews herself slinky undergarments and lingerie. There's discipline and concentration needed in sewing, and it allows her soft, romantic side come out. It's her little secret. :)

Would also point out that the number of leisure time activities you can engage in at Skyhold are rather limited and those described for the various characters are pretty much the sum of it.   However, none of the characters engage in one activity to the exclusion of all others.   Iron Bull, Blackwall, Sera and others mention about hanging out in the tavern and you even get to do so with them.  They also all play cards.   Iron Bull and Solas discuss theoretical chess moves, which shows they are interested in the game, and Cullen also mentions about playing with Leliana I believe (if you cheat).   You find him playing with Dorian.    Dorian also clearly enjoys getting involved in gambling with Varric, including cards, and does a lot of reading; he even complains about the limited subject matter in your library, so he definitely does more than just get drunk.   Solas clearly also spends time reading, since he had a list of specific books he had requested.

As for Cassandra, despite her continually expressing reservations about him, I think she probably does spend some of her time "mothering" Cole.    The alternative to Dorian criticising her reading matter is having Cole say that she reads to him.

TBH, I think one reason (maybe the) we're discussing this is due to the game neglecting to show most of the kazillion tasks needed to keep the inquisition running. We know Leliana, Cullen and Josephine are more or less bogged down with such tasks simply because they each have their respective roles/assignments. There are numerous more things to do, and I believe the other companions are all responsible for executing them (to different degrees). I think Cassandra, having had such a prominent role in the organization, is particularly involved in these. It's just that we don't get to see it.

Can I borrow that headcanon of yours? :P

+10 for long walks with Cassandra. Bioware, make it happen!
